PROPOSAL OUTLINE
The proposal requires certain criteria be met:
1. Resort elevation must be 1,800 feet or greater at it’s highest point
2. Night time low average temperature for December, January and February must be less than
32 degrees Fahrenheit to accommodate creation of snow for slopes
3. Affect of direct solar radiation must be mitigated by placing slopes on a North or North-
West facing if the average daily winter temperature is above freezing
4. Ski slopes must have more than a 300 foot vertical drop to be considered competitive with
other contemporary ski resorts
5. Resort must contain at least 15 different trails of varying difficulty
6. Difficulty is rated by trail slope: Green 6-25%, Blue 25-40% and Black 40%+
7. Trails should also be named for marketing purposes
AVERAGE NIGHT TIME
LOW TEMPERATURE
Areas in Blue represent locations
where the average night time
low is cold enough to meet the
criteria
The entire state daily average
temp is too high to be suitable
The only suitable areas are in
the northern quarter of the state
White areas represent
insufficient data to make
calculation
ELEVATION
Due to elevation requirements, there
are extremely few areas that are
suitable.
The only suitable locations are on the
East border of Alabama with Georgia.
The proposed area has a maximum
elevation of 1900ft ASL.
HILL FACING
In order to maximize the duration the snow
exists on the ground, utilizing slopes with a
North or North-West face are needed
Areas colored in red indicate hills with a North-
West to Northern face
PROPOSED SITE LOCATION
Reasons for choosing site:
1. Proximity to major roads for accessibility
2. Proximity to Fort Payne
3. Adequate night time temperatures
4. Adequate area on which to fit facilities
5. Has appropriately faced hills for longevity of
manufactured snow
6. Proximity to Georgia increases potential customer
base
PROPOSED SITE AMENITIES
AND LAYOUT
Highest Point: 1,979ft ASL
Lowest Point: 949ft ASL
Longest Trail: 55ft
Shortest Trail: 1,249ft
Acreage: Appx. 5,000 acres
Ski Lifts
Parking lots
Multiple Ski Trails
