Photographic Terminology (Pt.2)
1. Manual Exposure
Manual Exposure gives the photographer manual control
automatically adjusts the shutter speed to achieve exposure specified
by the TTL meter. It is used to give you control over the three variables
that make up exposure; shutter speed, aperture and ISO. The three
settings are all connected therefore if you change the ISO as well as
the aperture, chances are you’ll need to change the shutter speed to.
2. Automatic Exposure
Automatic Exposure gives the photographer manual control of the
aperture whilst the camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed to
achieve the exposure specified by the TTL meter. It is used to create
consistent, reproducible exposures across a wide range of automatic
thicknesses, tube potentials and users. Using automatic exposure has
no significant effect to the pictures.
3. Colour Balance
Colour Balance is the global adjustment of the intensities of the
colours (typically red, green, and blue primary colours). It is used to
change the overall mixture of colours in an image and is used for
colour correction and is used to deliberately change them for effect.
An important goal of this adjustment is to render specific colours –
particularly neutral colours.
4. White Balance
White Balance is used so that the image looks more natural. Using
white balance gets rid of color casts, in order to match the picture with
what we saw when we took it making it look more natural. It is
important to understand the concept of white balance and how it
works is very important in digital photography because setting it
incorrectly could ruin a picture.
