Subject: Research Presentation and Project Reflection
The research project completion was a proud moment. Feedback from the mentor
explaining that the paper showed that the research topic was interesting to the writer was
rewarding and led to a proud feeling. It is one thing to prove a point in a paper but there is
another reward in understanding more about the world upon completion of research more so
than earning a grade based upon a point system. Feedback from Dr. Chuck was good because
the comments showed that the writer aligned with what the professor had already known and
showed progression in the academic world. This aligned with the experience at American
Military University. It was not just a class at a time but an adventure with each new
curriculum.
It was surprising to remove bias from the research paper. Utilizing three different
views at first seemed like it would not work out to easily. This writer believed in climate
from the beginning of the course. The research process had to be looked at from the other
view points and once separated it was easier to write down what was important from different
angles. Also, the research process proved that this writer’s presidential candidate did not
align when it came to climate change. The place that Rand Paul came from prevented him
from taking a certain stance due to the position he was placed in and it led to common ground
in disagreeing with a candidate’s policy while still believing in the overall message.
The Presentation was interesting because there were many avenues for a project
presentation. The idea from a video on YouTube derived from previous courses and a site
was already built to accommodate a video. The audience was originally set to brief about
climate change. It ended up being a presentation about motivating peers to get started or
follow through with their educational dreams while showing about what was learned. The
presentation described the learning process and how it makes military life more interesting
due to conversations that are possible without communicating office talk all of the time
because of other thoughts on the brain. It showed that interesting conversations can develop
between like-minded people in the work place due to education. The surprise was a superior
came to the writer and asked about the degree plan because of thinking that it was interesting
the way it was sold. The subordinates in the room did not comment so much but if one
decided to initiate college or go back to college it would be well worth it even if the
execution was not pristine.
The presentation will not change while moving forward to other areas but attacking
research will always be impacted. Working towards a Master’s Degree in a particular field
might even prove difficult due to looking at the work from another point of view than the
fields requirement. This writer feels it will benefit a particular field to research outside of the
box even if the scope is narrow due to a change in the peer review research process. This
writer has, in the past, looked for research to support a particular view. Now, this writer will
look at multiple avenues with conflicting data in order to support a particular idea. This helps
the thinking process and does not allow for a reader to immediately dismiss the view because
they might not even know where the writer is going with it until it is too late.
The project is over and the final result will occur over time and this writer will be able
to follow climate change coverage and research moving into the next twenty to thirty years
with a different perspective than a most of humanity. This a nice feeling and will be useful
when his child come home from school and communicates the importance of green energy or
perhaps a recycling program that his school decided to talk about.
