Improving Renewal
MAJ Jonathan Rittenberg
Leadership Learning Plan
10 DEC 2014
Mission
• Support the United States Army Information Proponent Office through mentorship and
education of our students. Provide for my family and keep them inspired.
Vision
• Become a successful Army Senior Leader, developing future leaders to win the Nation’s conflicts and improve the
Army of the future.
Supporting
• Be a mindful leader who is aware of the continual changes in the operating environment. Understand strengths and
weaknesses of myself and others with the purpose of leveraging everyone’s strengths to support the team. Build
teams and relationships that last beyond the current job and look out to improving the greater Army and Whole of
Nation Team. Inspire others to know themselves, be authentic and bring their strengths to the forefront of whatever
future team they are a part of. Inspire agile and adaptive thinking that will enable fresh perspectives to solve the
complex problems of the present and future. Model my behavior through my core values and set an open and ethical
climate which promotes teamwork, learning and self-development. Set the example for others ensuring consistency
with words, deeds and actions.
• Be a loving husband and father to my wife and son. Ensure my relationship remains loving and open with
opportunities for us to grow and a family and individuals. Be mindful of the needs of my family well concurrently
balancing the demands of my work. Set the moral and ethical example for Lukas in with my words, deeds and actions.
Give my family the opportunity for great renewal, whether that be in steady state life or in travelling to see the country
and the world.
Philosophy
• Live my life through my core values both personally and professionally.
• Maintain balance between supporting the Mission of my Nation and the responsibilities of being a husband and a father.
• Remain consistent and true. Continue to be an authentic person and enable superiors and subordinates alike to operate as themselves.
• Focus on improving strengths, my own, my families, bosses, peers and subordinates.
• Allow time for renewal and reflection.
• Remove obstacles to allow the team to achieve success and improve as an organization
• Develop a shared understanding which facilitates people to take prudent risk through disciplined initiative to gain a position of advantage
• Foster a learning organization where creativity is praised and it is ok to think outside the box
• Build effective teams that can operate successfully with or without me
• Remain humble and give credit to the deserving
• Develop and maintain positive relationships throughout my life
• Be a member and support the greater community

Personal Board of Directors
Name Why I chose them
Maria Rittenberg – 34 years old Maria is my wife and I’ll be spending the rest of my life with her! She is sharp and always active in
planning for our future. She is not afraid to tell me ways I can improve. She is completely
supportive of my career.
Ivan Rittenberg – 69 years old My father has many amazing life lessons. He is the hardest working man I know. He worked two
jobs at once when I was growing up. He was a lawyer and police officer in Chicago. He and my
mother provided me an excellent life and education.
Colonel Frank Brewster – 45 years old Best Leader and Mentor I have ever had. He has the ultimate belief in me to succeed and reach
very high levels in the Army. I want to model my leadership off of his own and become the
Mentor for someone else like he is to me.
Major Dennis Murphy – 37 years old Excellent Air Force Officer. He has great experience working in the Joint Force (all services
combined). He is down to earth and always has great advice regardless if it is professional,
personal or family related.
Lieutenant Colonel Albert Augustine – 42 years old He is a critical and creative thinker. Al can help guide me into new ideas and really help me realize
the impact of actions in the environment.
Major Sean “Tex” Allen – 43 years old Awesome friend, officer and family man. Tex has got to be one of the most balanced officers I
know. He has the ability to give his attention to work, family and his own needs. I really want to
learn and emulate this characteristic of his.
