Work Narrative:
Since graduating with my Masters from Antioch University Seattle in 2012, my
professional experience has evolved throughout the planning and design fields. From April of
2011 through May of 2013, I was employed as an independent, project coordinator and GIS
Mapper in the oil and gas industry. During that time, I gained experience in project management
and coordination as I managed over 60 employees and 6 projects. As much as I enjoyed and
succeeded in my role, I wanted an opportunity to utilize my bachelor’s degree in Landscape
Architecture and work in the design/engineering side of the projects I was overseeing. This led
me to take a leap of faith and resign from my position as I pursued that career path. It was a long
a trying process re-entering the job market. During the 9 month’s I searched, I spent my free time
volunteering with numerous organizations throughout Pittsburgh and working part time in the
garden department at Home Depot.
In April of 2014, I got the opportunity I was searching for when I was hired by Lennon
Smith and Souleret Engineering as their Landscape Architect. As a designer, I have been
fortunate enough to land a position which allows me to merge my management experience with
my creativity. This has even led me to further my professional achievements by obtaining my
LEED AP Certification with a specialty in Neighborhood Development. Over these past year and
a half, I have gained experience working on projects ranging from large scale Master Planning to
project specific design. During this time, my duties and responsibilities expand weekly and my
supervisors are impressed with my work ethic and production. It is that experience and
understanding which I take forward as I continue to merge my education and passion with my
experiences.
I feel because I took that leap of faith to pursue my dream, I have the advantage of never
wanting to be on the other side again. I am on the professional path and career that I want. The
next leap for me is taking the first steps to owning my first home and planting the roots for a
successful personal life as well. Thank you so much for all your support and time in helping me
reach the next chapter of my life.
Sincerely,
John R. Wright III
