CONFRONTING BARRIERS TO TREATING MEN:
A LEARNING SEMINAR
A Ten Session, Monthly Small Group Learning Experience
For Therapists Who Work with Men
Presenters: Richard Aberman, LICSW & John Szatkowski, LICSW
Therapists have long known that engaging men in individual or couples therapy can be particularly
challenging. Gender roles, socialization factors and differences in communication styles lead men to be
reluctant participants in the process of psychological exploration and behavioral change. Yet,
paradoxically, more and more men are entering our offices and therapists require a different skill set to
fully engage men in the treatment process.
This learning seminar will meet one Wednesday each month, 9-10:30 a.m., September 2015 to June
2016, using thematic presentations and clinical case examples to address a variety of areas related
to treating men.
Engaging Men in Treatment
Men and Addiction
Fathers and Sons
Couples Treatment
Men and Depression
Dealing with Shame
Men and Infidelity
Men and Anger/Violence
Seminar Fee: $500
Seminar meetings will be held at: 3 Essex Green Drive
Peabody, MA 01960
