The Importance of Rainforest (The Amazon)
By:Joel C. Laurencio IV
What is the Amazon Rainforest?
The Amazon Rainforest is one the most largest
natural sanctuary and usually the largest rainforest in
the whole world and its home to 30% of the worlds
species. It holds around 390 billion trees some of which
because the trees are tightly pack together and when it
rains it takes about 10 minutes so the rain can reach the
ground. It is 5.5 million square kilometers of land
across 9 nations. Recently the Amazon is being hit by
massive forest fire and it became The Amazons biggest
threats but unfortunately the fires are just part of of a
bigger problem. Throughout the years human activity
like logging, mining and even farming are already
responsible for the lost of 3 football fields size of
deforestation per minute and if we don’t do anything about it the Amazon Rainforest
would usually disappear.
Why is the Amazon Rainforest Important?
Did you know that The AmazonRainforest creates 20% of
the worlds oxygen and has the secret of curing or treating our
most deadly disease and if we destroyed it, the effects would be
felt all over the world. We will lost any chance of survival against
climate change .Did you know that hundreds of prescription
drugs have come from things in the Amazon rainforest and it is
not only about simple herbs but usually cancer fighting drugs
that are considered so important that it is classified as essential
medicine by the World Health Organization (WHO).It also
absorbs 90 to 140 tons of carbon. We usually think that
something as important as this that we would do everything we
can to protect and preserve it so that we can explore it more and usually benefit us in the future
yet due to constant human abuse of the resources we accelerate the rate of the rainforest
deforestation.
So, what could we do to prevent something like this to happen again or what
can a simple student do to help it recover from this state?

Thankfully because of the studies conducted in the few
several decades, scientist discovered that a rainforest could
usually revive itself without the help of humans, it would usually
heal itself if it has enough seedlings. Did you know that we could
help it recover by simply doing simple deeds, example by not
eating as much beef because process beef products such as fast
food hamburgers are full of illegally source beef from the
rainforest, start using less paper and start using renewable
energy products. Dispose of your garbage in the right way because a simple cup has an effect on
the environment. Through simple deeds we could help our beloved Earth to recover once again.
But always remember that prevention is always better than cure. I know that students like us
can do a lot of things to help our environment recover, we could attend clean up drives and tree
planting activities quarterly or even doing it yourself. Remember that we are a part of the society
and what we do will have a definite impact on our environment.
