Why now? What has
changed?
Past (AUTOCAD)
 One file type: Drawing
 References: Not related
 Revision Control: Manual,
changes could be
recorded on the drawing
 JobBoss: Can be printed to
PDF and imported
 Viewing: Can only be
viewed on specific
software but a print has all
data needed.
Now
(SOLIDWORKS/AUTOCAD)
 Three file types: Part,
Drawing, Assembly
 References: Fully related,
one change changes all
related files
 Revision Control: Extremely
limited if any
 JobBoss: Only drawings
can be usable printed
 Viewing: Can only be
viewed on specific
software.
How are we affected?
 Same files in multiple locations
 Different filing structure for each application
 Bending, DXF, Machining, Tooling
 Revision control is a constant battle
 Revisions on large projects are almost impossible
 There is no way to go back and view previous changes
or find out who made the changes
 It is extremely difficult to reuse previous designs. A lot of
time that is spent redrawing could be utilized.
Why can’t we use Windows or
Laserfische?
CAD files are in a proprietary file
format which a computer can not
open without the correct software.
Tracking CAD changes requires
tailored software. This would
prevent multiple copies of files.
What are our requirements?
 Revision Control
 Multi-CAD Support
 File Naming
 Project Control
 Connecting Engineering with JobBoss
 Engineering Transparency
 Connecting a Part to all of its related
documents
How do we get there?
 PDM-Product Data Management
 PDM bridges the gap between CAD and JobBoss
 It locks down all files, tracking all changes while keeping old
versions available.
 Gives non-engineering staff access to all the information they
might need
 Prevents old revisions from being accessed by the wrong staff
 Has the ability to streamline Engineering Changes
 Is designed to integrate with JobBoss(ERP)
EPDM-Revision Control
 Keeps a history of all changes.
 Gives the ability to rollback changes and
visually see what changed in each
revision.
 You always know who created, or
modified a part.
 Gives a status of each project so it can be
tracked through the design/revision
process
EPDM- Multi-CAD Support
 Tracks all CAD files
 Associates Word, Excel, PowerPoint files to CAD.
 Work instructions can be attached to CAD
 Eliminates searching for related documents
EPDM-File Naming
 File Naming can be automated and
connected to JobBoss
 No more multiples with the same part
number.
 Associating Job numbers to part numbers
Project Control
 Large projects can be tracked.
Eliminating confusion on where the design
process is
EPDM-JOBBOSS
 Integration with JobBoss
 Detailed Bill of Materials
Engineering Transparency
 Management can check the status of
projects
 Gives managers the tools to view CAD
models and data in meetings with
customers.
Connecting CAD to
everything
 A part folder can contain
 CAD models
 Production programs
 Work instructions
 Customer requirements
 Staff can have immediate access to
everything they need without searching.
One folder structure for everything.
