Cellphone Guide: Effects, History and More in 35 Characters
1. Cellphone
Small wireless device that has at least the same functions of a standard wired telephone but is
smaller and more mobile. A cell phone requires a subscription to a service provider and
requires either a prepaid or monthly billing setup. Generally, they have more functions than
traditional land lines and need to be charged after a period of time. Also calledmobile
phone or mobile device.
Alternatively referred to as a cell, cellular, and cellular phone, a cell phone, which is also
sometimes abbreviated as cp is a mobile phone or portable phone that enables a user to
communicate almost anywhere in the world. The cell phone was invented by Dr. Martin
Cooper who led a team of developers at Motorola and made the first cell phone call in April
3, 1973 at Motorola.
As can be seen by the picture to the right, of the Nokia6010 cell phone, modern cell phones
have changed drastically from the original cell phones (aka bricks). New cell phones are
much lighter than the old brick cell phones, much smaller, and have LCD (often a color
LCD) to display contacts, pictures, ringtones, games, etc.
A cell phone is a two-way microwave radio. It emits erratic pulses of low energy microwaves
even when you are not talking. Although cell phones signals are more than a thousand times
weaker than those of a microwave oven, they operate at the same frequencies used to heat
food.
2. Effects of cellphone/mobile phone
Cell phones affect our memory, as there have been recent studies and researches done on
animals kept in laboratories that have shown ill effects of mobile phone radiations on their
memory. Cell phone radiation caused leaks in the brain tissues of rats that were exposed to
this radiation for a test trial. Though we cannot avoid using cell phones, as they have become
a necessity, one thing which we can do is use a hands-free to avoid direct radiation.
There is an argument that mobile phone causes change in the structure of chemicals of cells.
Also, they are accused of causing cancer. The radiation from the mobile phones has been
villainized by those who warn that the excess usage of mobile phones can damage brain
cells. The heat produced by the radiation from mobile phones has been found to change the
chemical structure of chemicals synthesized in small organisms like worms. But many
scientists are of opinion that the radiation cannot be harmful to human tissues. A recent
report says that so far there is no evidence of any adverse effect by mobile phone radiations,
but they added that new researches have to be conducted.
Recently, I have observed some serious effects of mobile phone radiation on brain. In brain,
hippocampus is understood to be responsible for learning and memory. In order to confirm
this, we have carried out investigations on the whole brain, hippocampus, and remaining
brain. This was undertaken to determine the possible site of the electromagnetic field (EMF)
bio-interaction. We have concluded that these radiations may damage our nervous system,
especially memory. This has been done by protein kinase C activity and DNA strand break,
which has been affected by mobile phone radiations.
Effects of cell phone use on direct human-to-human interaction
Among the other things that cell phones destroy are the pleasures of direct human-to-human
interaction. I have seen many people including so embarrassingly myself too being obsessed
with a relationship over the phone. But this situation has become inevitable since our
situation is warranted by the de-location of opportunities and jobs. I felt very much relieved
for one week when I lost my mobile. Like other addictions, cell phones have also become an
addiction. We are ignored real persons and been communicating with virtual persons over the
phones but ultimately it becomes a sort of a ill health. Now, there have been studies showing
how detrimental cell phone is for physical health too, so I am learning to avoid using cell
phone without discretion.
3. What Are the Negative Effects of Cell Phones?
Cell phones are some of the most dynamic communication (and increasingly infotainment)
devices of the Digital Age. While cell phones have proved to be highly beneficial tools for
many tasks and activities, some negative effects do exist. Usage patterns, behavioral
characteristics, health-related issues and other negative effects have been a cause for concern
about the excessive and inappropriate use of cell phones.
Some negative effects of cell phones are as followed
- Highly addictive: teenagers are always on the phone, talking or texting, and as a result
would hurt their academics.
- Expensive: cell phones, the device itself, could cost you several hundreds dollars; but it
doesn't end there. The cost of the phone service (your phone plan) could cost you $30 - $100
(or more) per month!
- Very distracting: the phone goes off at any time (i.e. in the middle of class, church,
presentations, etc)
- Can ruin your life: because of the fast growing technology people are able to do so much
on the phone. For example, for business men and women, their phone may have the option of
emailing. Because of this, they are always working on the go and have no time to relax. Even
when one is on vacation, having a phone makes this very easy for work because people could
contact you so easily and you could simply work on the phone.
- Bad for your health: cellphones use receive and transmit radio frequency signals which
are similar to radiation given off of a microwave which studies have shown to be bad for
your health. Also researchers have linked cell phone usage with male infertility, Alzheimer's,
and serveral other health complications.
- Environmentally unfriendly: numerous studies have shown that electronic waste from
things like cell phones are highly damaging to our environment as they have harmful toxins
in them. Disposing such devices also require a difficult process.
