2. “It is a happy talent to know how to play.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Writer, 1803-1882 A great many toys are part of active play. These include traditional toys such as hoops, tops, jump ropes and balls, as well as more modern toys like Frisbees, foot bags (also known as Hacky Sacks), and the yo-yo.

Editor's Notes
We have seen so far that many toys could teach you how to do a job. What kind of toys do you see here? There are a variety of toys here that have a different purpose than what we have seen before. The purpose is now for fun!
As you can see there are dolls to the right that are very fragile, and a variety of dolls to the left. Even though dolls do teach young girls about taking care of children, it still allows the girls to have fun and play with them. To the left shows how the dolls looks can change. You have to be more careful with the dolls to the right because they are made of porcelain which were in the beginning of the 19th century. The ones to the left are all fabric that can easily be played with.
Later on in the 1960s dolls have changed drastically. There is now a man doll that has been added to the scene. They are made of plastic, look more life-like but are smaller. Behind the dolls, what do you see? A dollhouse! What kids do you think this toy is made for? These toys are made for everyone but it seems that more young girls play with these toys than young boys.
