• What are the principles of good writing in English?
• English writing practice: knowing what you want to say and getting that across
• Short writing exercises
• The difference between translating the words and turning a translation into
English
• The differences in English writing for different areas, especially technical writing
for areas such as:
Instructions and manuals
Legal/Formal
Tourism
Marketing and Advertising
Literature/Poetry

• George Orwell and Lewis Carroll, examples from their works
• Examples of good English writing, technical and otherwise from various sources
• Influence of social media on the quality of the written word
• How English is a constantly evolving language
• Short writing exercises
• 500 word writing assignment to be handed in on the last day, corrected papers
may be picked up at the OMT or sent by email
