Birds eye view, pan up of the leads body on a

surgical table dressed in white.

0:06-0:16

Mid-shot of lead singing. Non-diegetic sound

of heartbeat used to build tension.

0:17-0:22

Bright artificial lighting. People with surgical

gloves come into shot which connotes death.

0:23-0:25

Surgical blue sheet is put over body.

Blue connotes sadness. Short fast hand

movements that are in time with music.

0:26-0:34

Routine examination of body. Ensuring the body

is dearth (post mortem).

0:35-0:36

Locating the heart, marked with a red cross.

Red symbolises danger/lust/love.

Hands form a heart shape - links with lyrics

‘This is the beat of my heart’.

0:36-0:39

Use of blade to locate heart indicates there is

going to be an incision.

0:39-0:41

Takes mask off so we can see him sing

‘If you love me let me go’-> meaningful.

0:42-0:44

Slow motion of lead trying to escape the grasps

Visual and lyrical relationship as it sings ‘let me

Go’.

0:45-0:48

Lead singer, fights to be free of the grasps of

the surgeons. Fast movement ‘let me go’.

0:51-0:54

Routine movements. Lead is being held against

will.

0:55-0:57

‘Words are knives that often leave scars’

Hands are taken out of shot from the mouth,

shows that his words deserve to be free.

Fast hand movements.

0:57-1:00

Close up lyric focus and angle changes.

1:00-1:14

Fast movement to show struggle filmed last

different angles.

1:15-1:17

Close up of injection-> shows character isn’t

about his witts. Lighting fades to black.

1:17-1:19

Dark lighting symbolises change. Mask is

removed.

1:19-1:24

Mid-shot and zoom in. Character is being dressed

up into a suit. Character doesn’t know what is

going on- shown by facial expressions.

1:25-1:28

Make up is put onto the lead and his arms are

crossed across his chest. Coffin ready.
1:29-1:30

Arm swipes down over the lead singers body.

As the arm swipes down the lighting drops with

it, fading to black-> black connoting death.

1:31-1:32

White clothed arms put the lead singer into a

coffin. All arms are synchronised- pop

music style (dance routine like).

1:32-1:35

Close up of nails being hammered into a make

shift coffin. Camera is unstable to show how

hectic and fast paced the situation is.

1:36-1:41

Pan up of the lead singers body who is lying in

the coffin- dark lighting. Water seeping through

shows the lead is at risk of drowning.

1:42-1:51

Extreme close up of the lead-focus on the lyrics

And show he is trapped/about to drown.

1:52-1:54

Side on angle so we see the lead sink further .

This alters the lighting to go to black and white

to mimic what he sees.

1:55-1:56

On the words ‘if you love me let me go’,there is a

lyrical visual relationship as we see the lead

burst out of his makeshift coffin.

1:56-2:00

Shows he is free- has been let go because he is

loved essentially despite all of these external

grasps. There are close ups of water splashes .

2:00-2:08

Water bursts out more on the down beat of the

music.

2:08-2:11

Short fasts shots of surgeons and lead breaking

through walls-> surgeons trying to capture the

lead singer.

2:12-2:13

Close up on the lyric ‘falling apart’ relates to the

fact that the body is falling apart as ropes have

replaced the organs we would expect. There is

also the function in editing which has sped this

up to highlight the frustration.

2:16-2:18

Mid -shot shaky clip focusing on the ropes.

Special fx make the ropes look like they have

a mind of their own attempting to wrap around

the leads legs and body to try and capture him.

2:29-2:37

Black and white clothing worn by the lead singer

trying to be held back by the ropes- he isn’t

being ‘let go’-> implies he isn’t loved?

2:37-2:38

Close ups of the ropes wrapping around

different parts of the leads body.

2:38-2:39

Flashback to the lead being put onto the

operating table.
2:39-2:40

Blurred mid-shot of the lead trying to escape

the ropes. Short clip shows struggle.

2:40-2:42

Flashback to the lead on the operating

table being pulled back by the surgeons

Hands- stuck in an endless cycle.

2:43-2:45

Different shots and angles of the lead

trying to escape from the ropes and be free.

2:45-2:58

Different flashbacks are shown

Alternating between shots of the lead

and rope battle and lead and surgeon

fight for freedom (to be let go).

The on screen action of always being

pulled back shows he won’t be

‘let go’.

2:58-3:00

The music ends and the non-diegetic

sound of a heart about to flatline has

been reintroduced. This not only shows

the end of the song but end of the

characters life.

3:03-3:06

We see a blurred dark figure running

Toward the light, Whilst an overlay of

our leads face is shown over the top

showing him closing his eyes

(dying) and we as viewers understand

that the dark figure is his own life

fading away.

3:06-3:10

The sound of the final flatline supports

our assumption of the characters

death. Moreover, the bright light engulfs

the black figure and turns into a black

screen-symbolic of the end of his

life.
