3. History of Kotoku-ni Temple
Great Buddha of Kamakura (Daibutsu in
Japanese)
second largest monumental Buddha in Japan
construction of the Great Buddha began in 1252
Daibutsu-den Hall was damaged and destroyed in
storm hitting in 1334 and 1369, and
subsequently in a severe earthquake in 1498
