Conventions of music videos:
Taylor Swift - Fifteen
The song 'Fifteen' is a song that was created in the year of 2009 by an American
singer/songwriter named Taylor Swift. The video features Swift walking through a garden,
where she relives many memories with Anderson, being the bestfriend that is involved
throughout the music video (Redhead) who's story is told based on a true story that
happened to taylor involving heartache between both her and her bestfriend 'Abigail
Anderson'."Fifteen" is a ballad, which has Swift looking back on events that occurred to
her and her best friend at the age of fifteen and cautioning young girls to not fall in love
easily.
Camera Shots;
•Involves some close shots when Taylor is saying a specific line that she wants to put across
to the target audience as effectively as possible.
• Some 'two shots' are involved when she is filmed speaking to another participant in the
music video, to make who shes talking about in a line of the song, effective to show how
she would react to the specific line she is saying.

2. •Some CA's are used within the video. (Cutaways) A moment in the video when someone
other than the subject (Taylor Swift) is focused on. In this case a participant being a
school student walks past her when she is speaking about staying out of strangers ways
on her the first day of being a freshman 'Try to stay out of everybodys way' (lyric) . And
in the a line the subject says 'who wink at you and say, you know i haven't seen you
around'

speaks to the other subject focused on.
Camera Movements;
•Dolly - A dolly is used in the video when Taylor is playing the guitar and singing part of the
song that involves a strong part of the story.

3. •Follow - The camera follows Taylor when she is walking through the doors of her first day
at school and she doesn't stop walking.

4. Pink - Perfect
F***** Perfect, or for clean versions (Perfect) was a song released by Pink on December 2010.
The song follows the footsteps of another song Pink released "Raise your Glass", in
terms of lyrical content and themes, encouraging all people with insecurities to accept
each other for their true identities and not to be afraid to express who you are and who
you want to become.
Camera Shots;
Close Shots; Involves some close-ups of the main subject who is suffering from
depression because of 'self-image insecurities'. At one point the subject peers on at
'slimmer' girls in a clothes store while they hold up petite clothing to their bodies.
- Two Shot - Is used to
show to 'slim' friends checking out their 'slim' frame in a petite dress in a clothing store.

5. - Close-up as the
subject peers on.
- Extreme close-up of subjects eyes to try and express the sadness that she is suffering
from in the video.
Camera Movements;

6. Dolly - The camera moves smoothly throught the moments in her life when she
expresses that people 'Mistreated, misplaced, mis-understood' her.
Zoom - Zooms into her face when speaking, though is still moving away slowly.
Katy Perry - Firework
The song 'Firework' was released in 2010 on October 16th. The song involves a story
about insecurities and courage on individuals. It could be classed as a 'Self
empowerment' video and is an inspiring song with meaningful lyrics.

7. Close-up of Katy Perry's face in the beginning of the video when she is singing.
VWS - Very wide shot or WS (Wideshot). Katy is visible but it is showing the
surroundings she is in. To express how powerful she wants her point to come across.

8. EWS - Extreme wide shot. Subjects are very minimally visible, the surroundings overtake
everything else in this shot.
Camera Movements;
This is an EWS as well as a 'dolly' the camera smoothly moves around the building non-stop.
Could also be a 'follow'.

9. Pan - The camera moves right to left when moving around the building to then go back
onto a close shot of Katy and the other subjects.
Other movement cannot be detected.
