founding school principles and graduation goals
1. The following principles are idea for a middle-high school experience:
Outside-the-school-site culture-building experiences before school begins each
year.
Memorization of the times tables, states, capitals, presidents, 100 classical themes,
and a creed.
Mastery of reading and math skills required for advancement at each grade level (no
social promotion)
All students independently read at least ten novels, at their grade level, annually.
All students meet physical fitness goals annually
Opportunity to attend Life Experience Lessons while in Middle School to
Williamsburg VA, Northern California, Utah Canyons, and Washington
DC/Philadelphia/New York.
Participation in weekly Sing-Alongs where a common batch of songs are learned by
all community members.
Opportunities for students to participate in Religious Release opportunities where
they could practice their faith during school hours on identified occasions.
A “no mess” policy where students are taught that all amorous relationships should
be saved until high school. Parents or their designees were required to personally
“sign-out” all students after school until 11th
grade.
Strong communication with parents through monthly (small group) or quarterly
(schoolwide) meetings and opportunities for parents to talk to and school leadership
in their own language.
Mandatory after-school catch up or enrichment programs for all student who did not
participate in alternative programs after school.
Strict uniform and grooming policies including no earrings for boys and no makeup.
Prior to high school graduation, all students should be expected to have:
Have been accepted to at least two 4-year-degree Universities
Have participated in the Junior College Practice for University Program (at a
community college)
Have selected a vocational path if they did not plan to directly matriculate to a
University.
Visited at least 10 colleges or trade schools and filled in at least 5 scholarship
applications
Have created a financial plan for their decade following high school
Scored at a high-school completion skills level on objective reading and writing
exams.
Mastered a second language beyond English (foreign language or musical
instrument)
Been eligible to apply for College Experience Lessons to the Northern, Eastern, and
Southern (including a tour of US Civil Rights Movement sites) College Loops at the
end of their 9th
, 10th
,and 11th
grade years.
