Volkswagen employees rejoiced Friday night after the United Auto Workers vote
fell short in representing the Chattanooga plant.
After an extensive voting process, the Volkswagen plant came to a final
decision that not only pleased local politicians but also employees.
According to retired Circuit Judge, Sam Payne, a total of 1,338 votes were
cast. The Volkswagen employees voted against the union in a 712-626 vote.
“My heart is pounding with exceeding joy,” said Volkswagen employee,
Jay Waters.
Bob Corker, United States Senator, said that he feels Volkswagen made
the best decision because UAW was all about the money and not the community.
“The UAW has a need for our money. They don’t care about these guys,”
said Volkswagen employee, Julie Gray.
Gary Castell, Regional Director of UAW, said that despite Volkswagen’s
decision, the UAW built a great foundation of trust with them and they plan to
continue to move forward.
2. According to Volkswagen President, Frank Fischer, he feels that the
employees have spoken and they will continue to respect their decision.
