with shared beliefs. Most people don’t consider
mythology to be entirely true, but they still take
it seriously.
o A myth is a story about the olden days, often
featuring supernatural characters, and a
mythology is a bunch of myths that are related
to each other.

3. Four theories of myth
1. The rational myth theory states that myths were created to explain
natural events and forces.
2. The functional myth theory is what you call the kinds of myths that were
created as a type of social control.
3. The structural myth theory says that myths were patterned after human
mind and human nature.
4. The psychological myth theory is the fourth myth theory, which states
that myths are based on human emotion.

Myths began to be recorded just as soon as humans mastered
the technology of writing. collections of mythological stories
that became organised into cycles, explaining how the world
was created, how humans came into existence or why Death is
necessary.
Myths are preserved in oral versions, passed on by word of
mouth from one generation to the next. The recording of
these tales began only in the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries when explorers and scholars became interested in
tradition
