There is a growing need for soccer fields as soccer becomes more and
more popular along the Wasatch Front. Many local super league teams
travel great distances to participate in regional tournaments. Salt Lake
City wanted to address this need by providing a regional tournament-
quality soccer complex to the community that could be used as a
“home field” for local teams. MGB+A provided a multidisciplinary
team to first study the site and mitigate existing poorly functioning
wetlands to provide 18 multi use soccer fields with four softball and
four baseball fields to follow. The site is environmentally friendly
providing recirculating irrigation ponds that accept all storm water
runoff from athletic fields and parking lots. The project also contains
40 acres of dedicated natural habitat improved for migratory birds and
other species.
