RBC supported several community events and programs in British Columbia. They sponsored the PNE Prize Home and brought Olympic spirit to families. RBC also funded the O-Zone leadership camp for youth, which used sport to teach values of the Olympic movement. Additionally, RBC raised funds for cancer research through the Symbol of Hope jewelry and sponsored community events like the Hastings Sunrise Street Hockey Tournament.
1. RBC at the PNE
For many residents of the Lower Mainland, the PNE is a summer highlight. And for the
third year, RBC was there!
As a sponsor of the PNE Prize Home, RBC provided three $5,000 GICs for the early
bird draw. We also brought some Olympic spirit to our display next to the Prize Home,
by giving kids a chance to try their hand at free throws at the RBC Olympic FanFair
basketball shoot. Some of our enthusiastic employees were also on-site to meet the
public and answer questions about RBC’s products and services.
RBC is committed to supporting community events and was proud
to be a part of this year’s PNE.
RBC Funds O-Zone Program
Thanks in part to a $10,000 donation
from the RBC Foundation, youth from the
Sea-to-Sky corridor and inner city of
Vancouver attended a special camp in
Squamish this August. Held during the last
weekend of the Summer Games in Athens,
the O-Zone Program (short for Olympic-
Zone) uses the vehicles of sport and
outdoor recreation to teach youth aged
11 to 13 the values of the Olympic
movement and to share traditional
First Nations culture and heritage.
“This unique camp provides kids
with the chance to meet other young
people from diverse backgrounds, gain
leadership experience, learn about social
responsibility and participate in the larger
community,” explains Anne Languedoc,
Chairperson of the
O-Zone Leadership
Adventure Program.
“RBC’s support
was instrumental in
making this amazing
experience possible
for these kids.”
Special thanks
to the employees
from the Squamish
branch who
volunteered their
time at the camp.

Symbol of Hope
Hope for a future without breast
cancer. It’s why RBC sponsored the
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s
Awareness Day in Vancouver. And it’s
also why RBC has commissioned the
Symbol of Hope line of jewellery to
raise awareness of the life-saving
importance of mammography.
These stylish cufflinks and circular
pendants (which come with 18-inch
silver chains) combine the strength
of sterling silver with the depth of
mother-of-pearl. All proceeds go to the
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation,
with the goal of raising $50,000 for
their programs in BC/Yukon.
The Symbol of Hope is available
for a price of $50 for the pendant
and $60 for the cufflinks. They can be
purchased online until December 31,
2004 at: wwwwww..ccbbccff..oorrgg//bbccyyuukkoonn.

Over 130 kids took to the streets on
July 10 and put their hockey skills to the
test at the 3rd Annual Hastings Sunrise
Street Hockey Tournament in
Vancouver. Members of the
Vancouver Police Department and
BC Ambulance Service coached and
refereed games, and employees
from the Hastings & Nanaimo
and 1st & Renfrew branches
helped ensure the tournament
ran smoothly.
“We wanted to support an event
that gave youth in the neighbour-
hood an opportunity to participate
in positive activities,” says Sonya
Reginato, Manager, Personal
Financial Services, Hastings &
Nanaimo branch. “Everyone
enjoyed themselves tremendously, and it
was a great opportunity to meet members
of the community as well.”
Supporting Cancer Research
This year, over 145,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer. A team of employees
from the Revelstoke branch recently did their part to help support these individuals
and their loved ones
by participating in the
Canadian Cancer Society’s
Relay for Life. Thanks to
their boundless energy and
enthusiasm, they were able
to raise over $1,000 for this
battle against cancer.
RBC also shares our
employees’ commitment to
support cancer research and
treatment. This year alone,
we’ve donated more than
$100,000 towards cancer-
related causes in BC.
Reading Program
is a Bestseller
For the fourth year in a row, RBC
Foundation donated $25,000 to the
British Columbia Library Association’s
Summer Reading Program. But this
year RBC created a contest to promote
the program and encourage children to
read more during the summer holiday.
“The British Columbia Library
Association is grateful for the
commitment RBC Foundation has
shown our Summer Reading Program,”
says BCLA Executive Director Michael
Burris. “With over 75,000 program
participants and an excellent response
to the contest, we believe this was our
strongest year ever.”
Participants were not only awarded
a special RBC medal, but they were
eligible to enter a draw to win one
of five $100 cash prizes from RBC.
The lucky winners in the contest were
Kate Boutilier (Victoria), Nathan Dasilva
(Richmond), Cristina Lopez (Coquitlam),
Gavin MacPherson (150 Mile House) and
Ryan Veeken (Kamloops).
Congratulations to everyone who
participated. And remember, anything
can happen when you read!
