Dear Colleague,
No doubt you have felt the pressure of changing
patient needs and demographics in Asia as the
population ages, chronic conditions increase and
patient numbers surge across the region.
In response, the number of hospitals and
healthcare facilities in Asia have skyrocketed:
Singapore aims to expand beds by 25% and
nursing home capacity by 70% by 2020.
Indonesia and Thailand together are expected
to add more than 60,000 beds by 2019. The
Department of Health in the Philippines is slated
to modernise more than 20 of its hospitals as
well.
Planning and delivering these greenfield
hospitals and expansion projects pose unique
challenges, from design conceptualisation
and masterplanning to financing, stakeholder
alignment and project delivery models.
“Healing is a matter of time,” Hippocrates
mused, “but it is sometimes also a matter of
opportunity.” This March, you have the unique
chance to join international leaders in evidence-
based design, healthcare architecture, clinical
care and project delivery to explore how to
integrate function, flow and design in developing
flexible, patient-centric healthcare facilities,
on-time and on-budget.
I invite you to explore our program, case studies
and the speakers you will meet at Hospital
Design & Development Asia. We hope you will
join us in this exclusive opportunity to share,
engage and learn with healthcare leaders
across Asia.
I look forward to meeting you in Singapore!

Workshop A:
Conceptualising and
Delivering Patient-Centric
Aged Care Facilities
Greying populations coupled with cultural shifts away from
family-driven care are seeing aged people across developed
economies in Asia increasingly choosing nursing homes and
care resorts as they reach retirement age.
The aged patient has complex health requirements that
must be carefully considered when designing facilities and
communities to accommodate both their clinical and social
needs. This workshop will explore key design considerations
when developing aged care facilities, including:
	Establishing inclusive design models that engage with the
wider community for increased interaction with natural
environments and younger populations
	Supporting emotional needs and a sense of security to
encourage greater long-term independence
	Enhancing mobility and amenities for patients with
reduced autonomy due to preexisting medical conditions
	Balancing on-site clinical care with independent living and
diverse activities that engage the mind
Gain a holistic understanding of the ageing patient’s
multifaceted needs and the design principles to support
a robust and comfortable lifestyle at long-term aged care
facilities.

  • 2. Dear Colleague, No doubt you have felt the pressure of changing patient needs and demographics in Asia as the population ages, chronic conditions increase and patient numbers surge across the region. In response, the number of hospitals and healthcare facilities in Asia have skyrocketed: Singapore aims to expand beds by 25% and nursing home capacity by 70% by 2020. Indonesia and Thailand together are expected to add more than 60,000 beds by 2019. The Department of Health in the Philippines is slated to modernise more than 20 of its hospitals as well. Planning and delivering these greenfield hospitals and expansion projects pose unique challenges, from design conceptualisation and masterplanning to financing, stakeholder alignment and project delivery models. “Healing is a matter of time,” Hippocrates mused, “but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.” This March, you have the unique chance to join international leaders in evidence- based design, healthcare architecture, clinical care and project delivery to explore how to integrate function, flow and design in developing flexible, patient-centric healthcare facilities, on-time and on-budget. I invite you to explore our program, case studies and the speakers you will meet at Hospital Design & Development Asia. We hope you will join us in this exclusive opportunity to share, engage and learn with healthcare leaders across Asia. I look forward to meeting you in Singapore!
