EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As the Livestock and Forages intern for Pickens County, I
gained essential knowledge about the department’s daily
operations, organizational structure, programs and
services offered, and technologies utilized by our students
and staff. In addition, I applied my talents to a variety of
challenging and significant projects. Projects include the
assistance in adult classes on taking care of, processing,
and raising various livestock. I also lead lessons for
children ages 6 to 14 on the importance and conservation
of clean water, as well as the impact composting can have
on our environment. I recorded and edited a series of
videos that will teach children and their parents how to
show rabbits. I also contacted and worked with an
extension agent in Wisconsin, Dr. Mark Renz. We added
South Carolina to list of available states open on his weed
identification website and I composed the list of weeds to
be used in South Carolina.

SKILLS GAINED
My critical thinking skills improved vastly
as learned how to swiftly respond to walk
in as well as telephone questions by
members of the community. The
department provided exposure to educating
and communicating with all ages of the
public. The Extension office helps
everyone who asks for it, even if we do not
have the answer agents will find the contact
needed to help.
UPON GRADUATION
I plan to graduate in the Fall of 2017. I
would like to work for extension, Bayer as
small animal pharmaceuticals sales
associate,or I will return to graduate school
in pursuit of my Agriculture education
degree. My 2016 goals are to continue my
learning through various internships and
my exciting oncoming classes on animal
health, animal nutrition, and contemporary
issues in animal science.
