Job Role:
• Managed and organised the running of daily entertainment (trips to London/ bowling/ cinema) for
several teenagers with learning difficulties (e.g. severely limited speaking ability/ wheelchair user)
during the Easter and Summer holidays.
• Had to use initiative by adapting communication skills so as to respond quickly to the emotional,
physical or medical needs of the teenagers.
University Officer Training Corps Junior Under Officer Jan 2014 - Jul 2016
Job Role:
• Successfully passed a Sandhurst leadership module, which involved quickly analysing and then utilising
information in order to plan and co-ordinate tasks as a platoon commander of up 30 soldiers.
• Promoted to Junior Under Officer in September 2015. Mentored new cadets in preparation for officer
training at Sandhurst. Developed their personal presentation, military drill and organisation.
• Ensured that 100% of new cadets under my command passed their military annual tests.
• Contributed to the organisation of logistics for a two-week camp which involved up to 100 officer cadets.
Exam Central Mathematics Tutor Oct 2013 - May 2014
Job Role:
• Implemented different teaching methods and techniques in order to improve the mathematical
competency of 3 primary school children.
• Motivated them to reach their learning targets for an hour after school had finished, and disciplined them
by being assertive and using incentives such as rewards.
2. Voluntary Work
West Midlands Fire Service Presenter Feb 2015 – Mar 2016
Job Role:
• Planned and conducted engaging and informative presentations on fire safety to classes of up to 30
newcomers to the UK.
• Ensured that 100% of new migrants in my class received a certificate to prove that they understood laws
and regulations on driving, drinking and fire safety in the UK.
• Adapted my style of communication, since many often had limited English.
Achievements:
• Achieved a Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management from the Chartered Management
Institute (November 2016): I gained this as a result of my work with the Officer Training Corps during
university.
• Achieved a 1st
class mark in my 12,000-word dissertation (July 2016): Demonstrated an ability to
research, evaluate and organise information, before utilising it to form a persuasive and origina l
argument.
• Completed a Mountain Leader Training course (April 2016): Navigated through mountainous
terrain by using a map and compass. Became competent in leading, motivating, teaching and
safeguarding a group of five people on a mountain expedition.
• Completed the Cambrian Patrol (October 2014): Contributed as part of a team of eight to a military
competition in 2014, which involved a 48-hour trek through the Brecon Beacons.
o This required physical robustness and mental resilience to not only complete the route but also
to carry out tasks, from gathering reconnaissance to evacuating a casualty. All of this was carried
out in extreme weather conditions and with no sleep.
Interests:
• Physical exercise:
o Running - raised £200 for the charity Step by Step, after running the Fleet Half Marathon in
2013. Also completed a 12 mile Tough Mudder endurance course in 2014.
o Mountaineering – joined a hiking team for ten days in Corsica during summer 2015, and the
Pyrenees in 2014. This required precision in navigation in order to conquer the physically
demanding GR20 and GR10 routes.
• Dancing:
o Took on responsibility in my third year as Secretary of the Breakdance Society. Answered
emails, organised room bookings and lessons and recruited new members.
o Competed in inter-university Latin and Ballroom dancing competitions during my second and
third year, having never danced before.
• Acting:
o Played a leading role in the secondary school production of ‘My Fair Lady,’ and performed for
two consecutive years in the Fleet Parish Pantomime. This required high commitment alongside my
studies.
