1. Unit 8: Responding to a Commission
Common Answer Booklet
Jake Rose
This document contains the answer booklet for Activities 1, 2 and 3 for this unit.
2. Activity 1 – Rationale
Write a rationale, summarising your ideas in response to the commission you have chosen. The
rationale should include details on how you have used the information provided and your own
research to form your ideas.
Type your response below this line. The box will expand as you type.
My target audience for my product is 14 – 19 year old’s because that is when people are more
mature than others. Another reason is because this age group will be at the end of the school life
moving into college. I chose this age group because it is the most common age group for bullying.
The aim of this product is to try and stop bullying and educate more people what it is all about. We
need this product because not enough people understand about it and when people are getting
bullied they don’t really know what to do. My product will be influenced by my target audience by
having more images because no one at that age will want to read pages of writing.
I will ask my target audience these questions and there answers will affect my product for example
What is your age?
What is your gender?
Have you ever been bullied?
These are just some of the questions I will ask my audience, the answers to these questions help
direct me to what I should make my product like. I will make et so everyone can read along and
relate to it .
For my secondary research I looked at different types of bullying websites, one of the websites
were called www.bullying.co.uk . I like this website because it has lots of color and many tabs to
take you to different pages. It also has a side bar containing information about different types of
bullying. I will be using colors and adding side bars into my website to make it more interactive.
This appealed to the target audience because people of this age group will not want to just scroll
down a page of black and white they will want color. Another website I looked at was called
www.antibullying.co.uk , the reason I liked the website was because it included statistics such as
28% of US students in grades 6 – 12 experienced bullying and 9% of students in grades 6 – 12
experienced cyber bullying. I will definitely be using facts and statistics in my product to share with
my audience. Facts and statistics are needed because it just shows how much bullying can affect
certain people so I think my audience need to know them.
The client BullyingSupportUK is an independent charity set up to provide help and support to young
people who are affected by bullying across the UK. They focus on young people aged 14 – 19 year
old’s form whatever background, race or culture. There key message is to stop bullying and to give
young people support if they need it. It is funded by donations by individuals and businesses. They
aim to achieve to help and support as many young people as possible.
For my final product I want to create a website which can help young people because young people
are always on the internet all day everyday. 89% of young people spend more than 4 hours a day
on there phone just scrolling. The other 11% spend over 2 hours a day just scrolling.

3. Activity 2 – Pitch
Write a pitch of your idea in no more than 350 words.
You will need to communicate your idea in a succinct and persuasive way through a
written pitch. You will need to ‘sell’ the idea to the client by including an overview of the
content and style of your response to persuade them that it is worth considering.

I will create a website to inform my audience about bullying. My product will be the best
product out there because it will be so appealing to the target audience. The website will
include images, colours and facts, it will be the best website out there on the web. My
website will attract a lot of people and it will hopefully help people with their experiences in
bullying. I will have a side bar and different tabs to take you to different pages about
different types of bulling. My website will include a quiz for my audience to take and enjoy, it
will include questions about their age, gender and if they have ever been bullied before.
When I researched two website one of had lots of colour and a side bar and the other has
statistics, none of them had everything, however, my website is going to have everything
you could ever want in a bullying website. Personally, I think mine will be the best out there.
Do you really want to waste this opportunity in having an excellent website?
I think you should take the opportunity and trust me to create an unbelievable website. My
website will be filled with fun such as questionnaires and games for the audience to enjoy.
The website will be unique because there is no another bullying website that has everything
in them, mine will be the first one to stand out from the crowd.
Do you want young people to know bullying and the effect of it?
I chose to do a website because teenagers don’t want to be reading through a whole leaflet
because that will just bore them. Teenagers these days are constantly on their phones and
constantly looking for WIFI. So by making a website this will increase the chances of the
teenagers finding my product. If they go on my website they will notice that there are games
and questionnaires for them to play with, this will intrigue them.
So I think you should pick my website because IT WILL BE THE BEST!!!

Content Overview
Type your response below this line. The box will expand as you type.
Scene 1 – Scene 1 starts with a boy sitting on his bed crying, listening to sad music, whilst
getting horrible texts off people from his school, calling him names and making fun of him.
The little boy will have 2 black eyes and cuts all over his face. The audience then escapes
from his music and into the real world surrounding him and although the music can still be
heard blasting out of his earphones, we can hear the bullies calling him names in his head.
Eventually the voices in his head stop and he starts to cry allowing the camera to zoom into
his face and focus on the tears rushing down his face. The camera then pans and turns
towards his phone and zooms in on the text messages that were on his phone “you should
kill yourself, why you still here”. This shows the audience an insight into his life and it will
foreshadow the self-harming later on in the video.
Scene 2 – The teenage boy is walking to school which allows the camera to pan and follow
his walking along the road. The boy then gets near the school and gangs of teenagers start
to throw things at him and shout horrible things at him. The camera then circles the boy to
show the audience that the boy feels trapped and vulnerable. It then zooms in on his watery
eyes, whilst fighting back the tears. The camera cuts back to a group of teenagers which are
all shouting at him “ MOVE you freak, look at that horrible jumper, you are so sporty you
dork”. Then the camera will cut back to a medium shot of the boy looking scared and weak,
which will make the audience feel sympathy for him.
Scene 3 – The boy walks into the classroom and this one teenager starts throwing paper at
him, which then all the other teenager laughs at him and encourages the boy to keep
throwing the paper. The camera follows the piece of paper as it flies across the classroom
and when it hits the floor the camera will then focus on the piece of paper and the paper has
“ DIE “ written all over it. The boy then takes his jumper off because he feels stupid for
wearing it and the camera focuses on his arm and it is full of cuts and then the teacher asks
“ what are them “ the boy then replies “ they are off my dog “ and then the boy at the back
5. of the classroom shouts “ I am going to kill your dog!”
Scene 4 – The boy returns home from a horrible day at school and his parents are arguing
and won’t listen to what he has to say. The camera then follows the boy walking up the
stairs and he slams his bedroom door and falls to the floor and bursts into tears and he
can’t take anymore. The camera then pans around the room and the boy has black walls, no
light, black decoration and has messages all over the wall saying “you can make it through
this, they are just bullies don’t listen to them” and there was one big message in the centre
of his wall saying “I cant do this anymore”. The camera then cuts to a packet of 24 tablets
and then cuts back to the boy crying, the shots get faster and faster, tablets to the boy and
then back to the tablets and then the video goes black and then it cuts back to the boy lying
on the floor not moving………….

I will only use 2 locations, one will be the boy’s house where the boy will be lonely and
vulnerable. The other location will be at the boy’s school where other teenagers in large
groups will be throwing things at the boy and calling him names. The equipment I will be
using will be a camera, tripod, mic, computer. I will use the tripod to catch the shots of the
boy walking along the road, so the shots will be straight and perfect. I will use the computer
to edit the video and to add any music I want if I need to.

Legal and Ethical Considerations
Type your response below this line. The box will expand as you type.
The primary consideration is copyright. In this video I won’t be using any copyrighted
material because if I need any music or sound I will just create them myself. As I am
shooting most of the scenes in the house, there should not be an issue for copyrighted
material. Other legal issues may come up with other copyrighted assets however as a team
we will make sure all licenses are correct etc. Software license are also needed as well as a
confidentially agreement with the client as we are working in a professional environment.
The content in this video is not sensitive and it wont need any prior warnings. However as it
will be shown in schools, it is important to not include any profanities or extreme content.
As well as being shown on social media and online.

Scheduling and Planning Considerations
Type your response below this line. The box will expand as you type.
As it is a video a lot of hours need to be put in for the finished product to look amazing. It
doesn’t need an specialized equipment of extravagant locations, this means the costs can
be kept down. In order to get the video ready for the start of the academic year I suggest this
schedule starting around July.
Pre Production
Week 1 – Brief with client
Week 2 – Script/Storyboard
Week 3 – Storyboard and script reviewed and signed off.
Production
Week 4/5 – Go to location to film different scenes.
Week 6 – Go back to locations in case we messed up any shots.
Post Production
Week 7 – Feedback from client with any changes needed
Week 8 – distributed to schools
Week 9 – Released in school and on social media.
As well as if being distributed in schools it will also be released on social media, this gives a
larger audience to access the video, as most younger use social media every day.
