Project Proposals
As our respectable lecturer Mr. Lim kok Yoong gave us total freedom to choose any topic for our project, I took this opportunity to select the following three topics:
The Bengali New Year: In this topic I would present how the Bengali people celebrate the whole day of 14th April as the beginning of their new year.
Meena (cartoon): This is a very popular cartoon show in a part of Asia. I would portray all the educational and informative things shown in the cartoon.
Acid Violence in Bangladesh: In this topic I would like to talk about the crime of acid throwing.

I will make an informative interactive CD-ROM on one of the above mentioned topics as my final year project.

Project Proposal (Finalized)
Acid Violence
(To create awareness among Malaysian people due to Acid violence in Bangladesh)

Background Research: Bangladesh is the country with the largest number of acid victims in the whole world. Acid-throwing is an innovative form of brutal violence and is the cheapest and easiest way to take revenge.
Problem Identification: The major reasons for this attack on Bangladeshi women are rejection of marriage and love proposals, dowry, family and business related conflicts.
Aim and Objective: I want to highlight this issue to the Malaysian people.
Motivation: As an International student in Malaysia and a concerned Bangladeshi citizen, I would like to spread the message of this heinous crime.
Ideation and Concept: My idea is to create an interactive CD ROM on this topic.
Design Approach: Information and documentation with gloomy, and dark background

Research and Analysis

Acid is a very dangerous chemical compound.
Acid is very easy to find. A cup of Acid costs only a few cents and is therefore both a cheap and available weapon. Acid can be poured form any car battery or purchased from auto repair shops .
Acid violence is a particularly vicious and damaging form of violence in Bangladesh where acid is thrown in people’s faces, mainly younger women. These attacks are often the result of family and land dispute, dowry demands or a desire for revenge.
Nitric or sulphuric acid has a catastrophic effect on human flesh When acid attacks the eyes, it damages them permanently.
In addition to the inevitable psychological trauma, some survivors also face social isolation and ostracism that further damage their self-esteem and seriously undermine their professional and personal futures.

Research And Analysis
Source: Acid Survivor Organization, Bangladesh.
Research and Analysis
Interview: I asked some Malaysian people about Acid Violence, but very few people knew about it through the internet.
Survey: I went to Cyberjaya and the Kuala Lumpur city to perform a survey for gathering further information about this topic. In the questions, I asked them to mention their gender, age, profession and race. I also asked them if they knew what an acid is, what is its use, whether they know that its dangerous and about its extremely corrosive behavior.
Research and Analysis
These are the results obtained from the survey which included questions which are stated in the corresponding graphs above.
Idea Development
Interactive CD-ROM is the study of devices with which a user can interact Interaction design defines the behavior (the "interaction") of an artifact or system in response to its users. The best place to find images, animations, even sound and video file clips in the public domain is by visiting Web sites that maintain graphics archives. Many have search engines or have the files subdivided into categories. Most simulations are designed as Flash animations.
Using CD-ROM as a marketing and design medium allows for an interactive presentation of my topic that will capture the attention and imagination of the audience. Using cd-roms as simple as it gives viewers a deeper and more influential presentation that will make the content stand out above the rest.
Idea Development
For my project, ACID VIOLENCE is a drastic issue in Bangladesh. This issue is hampering in the culture and society in a rapid form. Many awareness needs to be created. The problem is not only happening meaninglessly. It is occurring due to the Illiteracy, unconsciousness, rejection of the wedding proposals, Dowry, Revenge from the Enemies so on and so forth. It is happening for a long time and the sufferer is getting affected for the rest of her life. Especially, women are the main sufferers. This major problem is now spreading into the whole society. So Interactive CD ROM will be the best way from my point of view in order to create more AWARENESS in Malaysian People. ACID VIOLENCE is serious crime. I alone can not solve this issue.Eventhough through Multimedia Interactive Cd Rom will be good enough to Create awareness and rise consciousness to the public. My interactive Cd rom will be Much more informative because it will consist with case studies focusing to the victims itself, their story telling and videos.
Contextual studies
Acid Violence is contextually a social issue and a cultural issue.
Social Issue
This crime is mostly committed by men. The fact that a large portion of Bangladesh society is male dominated adds to the social aspect of the crime.
Another aspect is the lack of access of education which comes from poverty.
Cultural Issue
Since this violence is increasing day by day, the idea is spreading among people and becoming an easy way of taking revenge.
Statistics of this violence

These sub-topics will be explained under the major topic.
Content Development
My voice

My reason behind doing this
The actions we can take

Our Voice

A video containing opinions of many Malaysian & Bangladeshi people

Case Study

Some real stories I collected

Content Development
The rough sketches I made for designing the storyboard.
Some features might be changed later, but for now, I will use this design.
Content Development
Storyboard
Intro page with title containing an image or design in the empty left-hand side.
This is the main page. All the buttons will be in the centre. In the top-left corner will be the “sound” (on/off) button and the “exit” button
Pressing any of the buttons will move the button column to the left, making space for the information the user wants.
Content Development
Storyboard
Pressing the first button: It will reveal its contents. When one of the contents is selected, the information will be sown in the box on the right
The same happens when the second button is pressed.
Content Development
Storyboard
The third button contains the videos. When pressed, the videos will line up on the bottom as shown. When one of the videos is selected, it will be shown in the box-area above.
The fourth button reveals the case studies. They will be shown in a similar manner like the videos, lined up at the bottom. When on e of the case studies is clicked, it will be viewed n the empty space above.
