Huhgo Kansas is located in Tornado Alley and experiences many tornadoes each year, costing over $1 billion in damages and claiming 228 lives over the past 57 years. Tornadoes form when warm, moist air meets cold, dry air and results in a spinning tube that can destroy everything in its path by uprooting trees, lifting roofs, and tossing vehicles and debris. The city's prevention plan includes planting trees away from homes, reinforcing doors, garage doors, and windows, and building underground safe rooms or nearby storm shelters for existing homes.
