Jagdeep Dangi, a physically challenged youth from a small town in India, developed several software programs in Hindi to help Hindi speakers access the internet more easily. This included a Hindi language internet browser and digital dictionary. The Ministry of Information Technology recognized Dangi's contributions and asked him to demonstrate his software. They were impressed and have made his programs available on their website for others to download. Dangi hopes to develop his software for other Indian languages as well to help reduce language barriers for internet access.

IT Ministry Lauds Small Town Youth's Efforts
by Julia Fernandes Aug 30, 2005
Last year CXOtoday carried the story of how Jagdeep
Dangi, a physically challenged youth hailing from
Ganj Basoda, a small town in Madhya Pradesh
developed a fully functional Web browser in Hindi for
the benefit of the countless Net-savvy Hindi-speaking
populace in the country.
Dangi was recently invited by the Ministry of
Information Technology (MIT), government of India.
He demonstrated his software in front of many
software experts and scientists from our country including developers from CDAC Noida, CDAC
New Delhi etc.
Amidst appreciation for his work, the ministry has requested him to give the demos of these
software so that they can be uploaded on the ministry’s website and people can download it
from there. Said Dangi, “I honored the request of the Ministry and gave the demos of my
software to the government without taking any kind of remuneration from the government
only in social interest. The software demos are now on the government’s website.”
Dangi has developed what he calls the world’s first Hindi Internet Explorer, DangiSoft i-
Browser++Hindi Explorer that contains all the functionality of Internet Explorer, but all in Hindi
(Devanagri). In addition, it also has some extra functions such as opening multiple files (same
or separate Windows), saving files, searching files and has slides, apart from auto history
viewers, pop-up blocking, built-in digital dictionary, edit mode on off, my search engine,
connect to the net, open folder, find on control, and English to Hindi translators etc. According
to Dangi, since these demos are 95/98 win OS based, they can be easily downloaded.
Said Dangi, “The most important and unique feature of this software is that it kills the language
barrier. It can run independently without any hindrance from the interface. Software that are
currently available only change the interface but when working on the Internet, which uses
different language the problem surfaces.”
“However, the click to Hindi feature kills this problem and lets the user browse or operate the
software in Hindi language without any obstacle from language used on the websites of the
Internet,” stated Dangi.
The DangiSoft Global Word Translator is a powerful translating tool that does not require an
Internet connection. It can translate any word online or offline with just a click of a mouse. To
use this feature users have to click the word, and the software will instantly give its meaning,
pronunciation, and synonym.
“The most important feature of this software is that it is not application dependent i.e. the user
can use this software even when other applications are running. This software is also
compatible with any Windows based operating system (95/98/2000/Me/XP),” said Dangi.
Meanwhile, he has also developed DangiSoft Eng.-Hindi-Eng. Digital Dictionary that is equipped
with the synonyms of the words. It provides correct and variable pronunciations of a word.
Although the Dictionary presently contains more than 35,000 words, users can add as many
words. A word in the Dictionary can be searched through many filters like the suffix, prefix,
middle word, letters in word etc.
The Dictionary, which also contains idioms and phrases does not require an Internet
connection and can be used offline on any Windows Operating System (95/98/2000/Me/XP).
“Though these software are primarily for Hindi speaking people, they can be developed into
any other language in real time,” added Dangi.
The Ministry has requested Dangi to work on “Bhasha Setu” a project by initiated by the
