Identify nesting habitat suitability for california gnatcatcher (CAGN)
Qualitatively compare presence survey data on CAGN spatial distribution with our
habitat suitability model.
3. Introduction
Land managers use the California Gnatcatcher as an indicator species for CSS health
and as an umbrella species for conserving CSS biodiversity.
Before agriculture and urban development, CSS range was 90% LARGER 50-100
years ago than it is today.
This species remains listed as threatened by the USFWS since 1993.
In Orange and San Diego county, what are the suitable habitat areas for the California
Gnatcatcher so that planners can prioritize conservation of core areas and land
managers can plan restoration efforts.
