Preamble
Be Merciful Like the Heavenly Father
Once a journalist asked a community about their full-time dedication: What is the reason for them to live an unmarried
consecrated life without individual property? The answer was: all people dedicate their life for something, some for love, some
for their children, and some for money or power....
Everyone has their own objects to dedicate themselves to, don’t they?
People may become serious about the ancient question about “what do people live for” as they grow old; and at Jinde
Charities, with a background of Catholic belief, we are always asking ourselves ”what is the mission we exist for?”
Society has institutions of law to keep itself in order, but our mission should be “to make others loved like brothers and
sisters”. Our goal is to bear witness to love, making more people see the source of love and hope. The early church
community faced cruel persecution, living a concealed religious life, but the unusual way they lived in brotherhood and
sisterhood was what distinguished them from unbelievers. At that time, caring about the poor, equality, and friendship became
the signs of our church.
The total program expenditure of Jinde in 2015 was 12,408,111.59 Yuan, which occupied 95.90% of the annual expenditure
and was equivalent to 88.50% of the balance of the past year 2014. According to the ’Regulation on Foundation
Administration‘ , the charitable expenditure of public placement foundations must not be less than 70% of the previous year;
Jinde has met the demand of the Regulation.
The best way for the charitable industry to report is through numbers, but finally numbers cannot express the essence of
charity. Real charity is to deliver the spirit of philanthropy, sincerity and fraternity to the world. In 2015, Jinde launched the
youth start-up program, which is to encourage more young people to serve society in an innovative way; In 2015, Jinde’s
elderly care department organized counseling training, which hopes to help more homes for elderly to provide both physical and
psychological care. In 2015, 6 children from HIV-infected families served by the Jinde AIDS-prevention department entered
into higher education, and Jinde will continue to accompany with them. In 2015, the Jinde psychological counseling center was
founded, which indicated that Jinde will pay more attention to spiritual and psychological areas….
The year 2016 is the Jubilee of mercy: our Pope Francis makes an appeal for us to live like Christ, and lead more brothers
and sisters to live in mercy like our heavenly Father. Today, our material standard of living is improving, but we meet a lot
of confusion and cannot see the meaning of life. The revelation of Bible, the teaching of our Church , and the reflection of
scientists all remind us: the meaning of life starts from LOVE.
Where does LOVE begin?
In Malta, a priest was nominated as parish priest. He was new and felt anxious; when he asked some experienced old people
about administration and pastoral work, he was told to love other priests.... He was puzzled, but made efforts to do as the
elders had said. Unexpectedly, after a few weeks, a youth in his parish told him that he want to live a consecrated life, and a
woman gave her jewelry to him for the poor after Mass.
Jesus told us that we should love our neighbors: love can unconsciously change our appearance, making us like Christ.

Disaster Relief
From January 1st to 5th, 2015, in the worst-hit area of the Earthquake, Jinde distributed packages entitled “Love one another”
to 1336 students of Wuzhai central school in Yongshan county, 124 students in Xiaomidi School, 465 students in Laoqingwan
school, 240 students in Muqiaowan school, and to 209 students in Bapiwan school. The packages in total were valued at
487,990 Yuan. In each package there were cotton shoes , socks, hats, and gloves.
The program was launched in a high altitude mountain area which is not suitable for growing crops, and because of transport
problems, younger people leave to find jobs, so that the problem of remaining children and elderly people is severe. There are
about a thousand people of the Yi and Miao nationalities; over 60% of them are left-behind children. At New Year, the “Love
one another” packages gave them spiritual as well as physical warmth.

“Hands are the gloves, and feet are the shoes and socks”, she said,
resting her cheek on the “love one another” package.
“What is love? Love is the warmth we feel when we put them on!”
was how one girl who got a package explained the meaning of brotherly
love.

惜He is five years old and after obtaining the shoes he hurried to the step to put them on, but he could not take off
his old shoes: there was a string from the upper of the shoes, wound round and round his ankle, and tied in a knot.
The little boy patiently tried to untie it. “Why are they tied on like that?” “The shoes are so big, and they are tied
so as not to drop off.” Finally he got off his old shoe, unexpectedly a “miracle” happened, the insole stuck to the
sock and came off with it. He put it in the shoe he had just taken off, and took up his new shoe, rubbed it and put
it on. ”Does it fit?” He nodded but wanted to take it off again. “Put them both on and walk around, to see if it’s
comfortable?” He shook his head. “Don’t you like it?” ”I like it.” “Then put it on and walk!” “......” He put the
shoe back into the box and said: “I want to wear it for New Year.”

Disaster Relief for the Nepal Earthquake
His name is Zhang Yonghou; he is 5 years old and taking the preschool
course. His elder sister is in grade 3 in the same school, his elder
brother is in grade 2. He said he had never worn a pair of new shoes
since he was born: his mother always gave him his brother’s. After
getting the shoes, people cannot help opening the box and trying them
At 14:11, April 25th, 2015, Nepal suffered a
8.1 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake
caused at least 8,786 deaths and 22,303
injuries, which included casualties in the
Chinese province of Tibet.
“If one part is hurt, all the parts share its
pain.” (1 Cor 12:26) On April 26, Good
Shepherd Sunday, Pope Francis held a time
of prayer with the Regina Coeli, inviting all
the faithful there to pray for the inhabitants
of Nepal. The Pope said: ”I pray for the
people who died in the disaster and from
injuries, and pray for the people in the
disaster who suffered: may they receive
brotherly care. Let us pray for Our Lady to
accompany them.”
The earthquake also touched the heart of
on, but he just held the box and
stood still. I encouraged him to try
them on, but he said no. And he
told us it was because he had no
socks, and his feet were dirty: he
didn’t want to dirty the new shoes.
On his knee there was a big hole,
patched with a different cloth.
Yonghou said that this was his first
pair of new shoes, and with good
quality.

the clergy and faithful of the Chinese church. So it was that Zhejiang Catholic
Church, Tianjin church, Qingdao church, and Shunde church joined with the
worldwide clergy and faithful and the Pope in their concern, and donated
192,069.00 Yuan via Jinde to the worst-hit area: 2 steel tiles and waterproof
canvas for each of 95 victims were delivered, which the inhabitants of villages
said are the most useful “gifts”.
Bp. Paul Simick from Nepal sent a letter through the Holy See indicating
that the donation was received and used in the places in need. The Holy See
emphasized: ”Please give our thanks to the bishops, priests, and faithful from
Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Qingdao, Jiangmen, Tianjin, and
Taiyuan dioceses for the donation to Nepal. We express great thankfulness
to everyone in the name of the Holy See: Thanks for their kindness and their

Explosion at Tanggu, Tianjin
At 11:20PM, August 12th, The explosion happened in
the dangerous cargo warehouse of Tianjin Gangruihai
company. The ”8/12” explosion stunned whole country
of China; the effect of two explosions equal to 25 tons of
TNT, which not only caused great loss of property, damage
to the environment, and the injuries to people, but caused
psychological ill effects for the people in the New Binghai
district.
After the explosion Jinde immediately contacted local
partners – the social service center of Tianjin diocese – to
make an assessment, and dispatched tents, clothes, soda
water, masks and shoes etc to the people in most need from
August 13th to August 18th.
On August 21st personnel from Jinde psychology counseling
center came to Tanggu, giving the inhabitants psychological
help and offering an advice service to the counseling
teachers who served in the disaster area.
Specific activities:
On August 13th, 60 staff and volunteers from Jinde’s partner
organization – Tianjin diocese social service center – came to the “worst-hit area”. 12 hours after the explosion, they started
to dispatch tents, clothes and soda water to the resettlement point of Taida Number 2 primary school, Taida hospital and the
Harbor hospital; at the same time, professional medical volunteers offered the service of transporting casualties, medical
assessment and volunteering in fixed points.
Delivering shoes and masks for the
police forces in the worst-hit area.
07
On August 18th , according to the needs of the military and armed police
after the disaster, Jinde cooperated with the social service center of Tianjin diocese to dispatch 1000 masks, 100 rubber
boots and 1000 boxes of essential balms etc to the Number 5 Police Team in Tianjin conducting surveillance and cleansing
missions.
On August 26th , Jinde counseling center, under the
leadership of Dr. Peter Chen Tianzhi, joined the intervention
supervision training where 150 students learned to help the
suffering and traumas of the people who gave assistance to
the disaster area. After the training, several organizations
held a conference to discuss how to plan and conduct
psychological intervention work for people in disaster
areas, and how to join more social resources to rebuild the
psychological home of people in disaster areas.
Mr. X is an example of the people served by the Jinde counseling team.
When explosion occurred, the elderly mother of Mr. X and his wife and young daughter were at home; as the explosion
shattered the windows, fragments of glass and the falling windows injured the three persons. His daughter was severely
injured, with lost teeth and a broken jaw; her arm was also broken. His wife gave her attention to the elderly woman who
couldn’t move freely, and neglected to help her daughter, which made her feel ignored and abandoned. After the disaster,
the family members all suffered from acute stress disorder and probably from post-traumatic stress disorder. Especially for
his daughter, it was the first time that she had experienced such a disaster. She was afraid of being disfigured, and the feeling
of being abandoned left her feeling disappointed with her family. She could not fall asleep every night, and when she did
finally sleep, she would wake up at the time the explosion happened. Sudden sounds made her over-react and jump; she
became impatient and easily got angry, having the symptoms of headaches and uncomfortable feelings in the stomach, with
obvious “flash-backs”.
the scene of the explosion seemed to keep re-occurring, like American Videos. Mrs. Shen helped them relax by her
emergency trauma intervention skills and relaxation therapy and the method of dialoguing with the traumatic event.
Through cognitive restructuring she helped them to have a deeper understanding of “disasters”, to cherish life and
the people around them, and to live a more proactive life. Because it concerned the family’s reconstruction and
Stories
reinforcement, Mrs. Shen offered treatment to the family as
a whole. During the course of the treatment, they were all
thankful for the courage and help between family members;
they promised with tears that they will love each other,
and support each other through their acceptance. After the
sessions, Mr. X with his family were thankful for the work
of related departments in the wake of the disaster and the
timely and effective psychological assistance, and they hoped
that they would receive follow-up treatment.

The Mid-Autumn festival in Minxian county
In September 15th , 2014 Jinde launched an activity
named “the house that love built” for families in
poverty in the disaster area of Minxian county. After
4 months of construction, 23 poor households moved
into new houses before the 2015 Spring Festival,
which is a sign for them of end the unendurable time
of living in tents.
After one year, although the 23 families now are
living in their new houses, the life in poverty
continues. They are living at present in a remote
valley, can only get to other places by walking.
Going to the nearest town, Meichuan, can take 1 or 2
hours. In the Mid-Autumn festival and national day
most people gather at home with their families to eat
moon cakes and enjoy the full moon, but they have no such concept because they live their whole life in the mountain area and
don’t even know the taste of moon cakes.
In order to enable the poor families to live a “tasty” mid-autumn, Jinde launched “the taste of mid-autumn” activity which
raised the sum of 2910.57 Yuan for purchasing moon cakes and fruits for the 23 families.
Some of the older people there had never been out of the mountains, and
didn’t know the taste of moon cakes. The grandson opened the package
and gave it to his grandmother. Poverty forces the younger people to
work away from home, and the old people and children left behind are so
poor and pitiable; we hope that in our future work we can go through all
the families and give happiness and rejoicing to the children and elderly
people.

Large-scale disaster-prevention and reduction courses
In May and June, Jinde joined the “Say no to disaster ” activity held by the CFPA humanitarian aid network. As a co-
organizer in Hebei, Jinde organized a disaster-prevention and reduction class and drill in Xingyan central school,
Shijiazhuang girls’ high school, and Hebei University of Economics and Business Studies to improve awareness of security
and the ability to deal with accidents. The disaster-prevention and reduction trainers shared more knowledge about self-
rescue and improved awareness of public security and the capacity for disaster prevention, self help and mutual assistance.
In Shijiazhuang girls’ school,
over 300 students and teachers
joined the activity. Headmaster
Jia Ning was critical of the
students’ performance in the
practice session: ”Please take
good note of this session. We
should pay more attention to
practice sessions so that possible
losses are diminished.” The
picture shows headmaster Jia
Ning playing the “walking in
the air” game with the students.

Hospital teaching about CPR.
All the students of Xingyan central primary
school joined practice sessions for disaster
prevention and reduction, which offsets the
lack of training of rural communities and
rural primary schools.

Summary of Work in the Year 2015
Emergency aid
From January 1st to December 31st, 2015, we received 97
letters or direct requests from families of patients. When we told
them about our aims, a few of them withdrew their application
(the families were not so poor); in other cases hospitals were
contacted through us and then reduced the cost of medical
treatment, so the families withdrew their application. The actual
number of the people receiving assistance were 90; 7 of the
cases are in process; 1 of them passed away so that the procedure
was canceled; in one case assistance was stopped because of an
objection received on-line; 5 of them requested further assistance.
70% of them have already recovered after the assistance. For
now many more people need help.
In 2015, we raised the sum of 1,420,982.95 Yuan, of which
987,104.42 Yuan paid for the treatment of the 73 people
mentioned above. Other donations are being used to make further
payments.
Emergency aid to Individuals
Group medical project
On December 3rd, 2015 we launched the “Million Warm
Hearts” campaign – to help people with congenital
heart disease. This project plans to sponsor 100 patients
with heart disease in Hebei N° 4 Hospital. It is worth
mentioning that this campaign has drawn in N° 4 Hospital,
the World Trade Plaza Hotel, Aier Ophthalmic Hospital
and other units. A partial list gives the names of 14
media organizations, including Fenghuang, Sina, Sohu,
Changcheng Hebei Youth Newspaper, Yanzhao City
Newspaper, and Shijiazhuang TV which reported or
reposted the news.
In 2015 we helped the
family of Nuonuo who
suffered from a disastrous
fire, and cooperated other
organizations to raise
operation fees for this family.
On August 6th we held the
“I Want A New Home
charity bazaar” by which
the family has raised all the
money they need through
donors’ assistance.
11
Social Development
Populations with special needs, helping in disaster areas, and relief work in poor areas are all domains where we serve.
But this is not sufficient.
We are also aiming to improve the standard of living in poor areas, to set up platforms for local cultures to develop roots, and
to promote regional sustainable development!
cultivation assistance projects
1.Stock-Breeding project in Dahe village, Taiping town, Lushan county
Dahe village is in mountain area. The main income is through forestry and from
employment outside the district. In the village there are 2,250 people, among
whom there are 180 families in poverty, 30 families benefiting from the “five
guarantees” , and 60 low-income families. The average income of the farmers
is 2,200 Yuan. The problem of left-behind single people, children and women is
severe. In 2015, the key point of the stock-breeding project of Jinde Charities is
to strengthen, deepen and enlarge on the base of 2014, and fulfill the sustainable
development of the project. 10 new families entered into the cooperative,
expanding the breeding foundation, developing the technical skills of members
and their comprehensive cooperative organization through a series of training
and instructions.
2.Maca planting project of in Mashu town, Qiaojia county
Mashu village has 8 administrative villages comprising 240 groups, or 36,000 people in all. The main ethnic groups of the
village are Han, Yi, Miao, Buyi, and Lisu. The sources of income of the village are individual and meager. The villagers
mainly plant corn, potatoes and wheat. They breed pigs for bacon, and free-range poultry on a small scale. Working outside
the district has become the main income source of their economy. The average income is 900 Yuan. Maca is a plant of
Villagers from Mashu hope to get rid of the backward
production conditions through planting Maca.
12
3. Reservoir project in Lincheng
Xingtai Xinglin Agriculture Ecological Garden is an
integrated ecological base for development involving
agriculture, forestry development and services. It contains
30,000 walnut trees and 5,000 poplar trees, as well as over
3,000 trees of other kinds, with 500 Mu of agricultural
land in use. Every year about 2,000 people come for a
time of retreat in the Saint Teresa spiritual center. Since
underground water is not available for exploitation there,
the main water source is from the mountains, from rain
and winter snow. At present the reservoir is too small and
can only be used to store water that is not for domestic
use; the domestic water supply is altogether insufficient.
Jinde provided 79,021.60 Yuan to help the garden to build
a closed reservoir. The reservoir’s diameter is 6 meters
medicinal value, and its economical value is high; it is very suitable for
cultivation in the locality, but the seed is so expensive that the villagers
cannot afford it. Jinde gave subsidies of 300,000 Yuan to the villagers, and
set up a project group, selecting farmer households, signing rent agreements,
and inviting experts for training from time to time. Through planting Maca,
the villagers gained an increase in income: they not only received rent of
400 Yuan per Mu, but obtained labor fees of 1,000 Yuan per Mu. Now that
the Maca has been harvested, if the selling conditions are good, the villagers
can gain bonuses. The project will also be a rolling development, leading
gradually more villagers to leave poverty behind. Maca harvest
and the depth is 8 meters; construction started on September 30th and finished on November 20th. To ensure the safety of the
construction, we searched for an experienced construction team and used the best materials. This reservoir can store sufficient
water and is connected to the retreat building by over 1,000 meters of pipes, to provide water for all the staff of the Saint
Teresa Spiritual Center and the people who come there on retreat.
“SAP Spring Clean-Out’’ distribution of clothes
SAP is a software company in Germany, with a subsidiary company
in Beijing that launched a “clothing donation activity” from April
8th to 15th. Jinde Charities is a partner for this activity, organizing
the distribution of clothes. The thousands of clothes donated were
almost new; after and after thorough washing and disinfection,
the clothes were sent to Handan Daming Sigao correction house,
Yunnan Zhaotong Yongshanliujin Trinity Church and Gansu Wuwei
Catholic Church.
13
Chinese people’s parenting seminar
From December 11th to 12th, the Chinese people’s parenting seminar, which was held in Shijiazhuang, was led by Jinde
Charities Foundation and the Amity
Foundation. 40 organizations which
conduct basic level child welfare work
together with scholars and specialists talked
with governmental officials, planning the
direction for the development of Child-
rearing in our country, aiming at enhancing
communication and improving the self-
discipline of the profession, and benefiting
children, improving the effectiveness of
welfare policy in China and the healthy
development of children in China.
NGO Capacity-Building Project
1.NGO Capacity-Building Project
The NGOs with a religious background are become more numerous; Catholic dioceses are continually launching work
services, but their professionalism should be enhanced. And
communication among these organizations is limited and needs to
improve. Jinde NGO Capacity-Building Project is a three-year plan
which contains four training sessions and 15 sub-projects. The training
sessions are to give a professional theoretical input, and the sub-
projects are an opportunity for practicing the concepts that have been
learned. 2015 is the second year of the three-year plan. Last August we
held third training session. Five sub-projects were begun in this year.
The Guizhou goose-breeding project and the Xianxian rural women’s
psychological care project were completed in 2014; the projects which
were undertaken in 2015 were rubbish-separation and processing for
the Liming Home, the training of Tianjin child psychology counseling
personnel and a psychological counseling project for the 60-65 age
group in Xianxian.
Peter Drucker, a senior lecturer in social
organization learning center, Mr. Xue Jianxin
shared the practice of the five leading behavior.
2.Cerebral Palsy Network and TOT project
The Cerebral Palsy Network was founded in 2007,
launched by four managers from four different
organizations. Now 50 organizations are affiliated, 20 of
them civil organizations caring for orphans. The Cerebral
Palsy Network achieved significant results through
professional training and resource-sharing, but still needed

improvement in some respects. The first TOT training session was held in Tangqiu, Ningjin from November 21st to 29th, on
the theme of community-based rehabilitation (CBR). The special lecturer was Roelie from Holland; 32 service staff joined
the training, through which they gained a deeper understanding of CBR, especially concerning the three points of solidarity,
empowerment and sustainability. After the training session the students returned to their organizations to pass on training in
their turn to their members so that it could be have greater effectiveness in each organization.
Foundation of Jinde Psychology Counseling Center
Jinde Psychology Counseling Center
went into action on December 13th,
which is a sign that Jinde is extending
its service domain to the realm of
psychology. The predecessor of
the Psychology Counseling Center
was Jinde Psychological Assistance
Group, which began already at the
time of the Wenchuan earthquake to
offer psychological help in the worst-
hit area, gaining wide appreciation
from society. The group is led by
Doctor Chen Tianzhi and Sr. Shen
Shuangying, offering psychological
counseling, group counseling,
enterprise EAP services, talks on
mental health and other services.

Scholarships
In 2015 , Jinde Charities sponsored 566 students, including 215 primary and secondary school students, 241 female students
in poverty, and 110 college students and junior college students. The total sponsorship amounts to about 683,000.00 Yuan.
Students are from widely dispersed regions in Hebei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hubei, Anhui, Henan, Gansu, Inner Mongolia,
Yunnan, Shanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Qinghai and other places.
Fengning county is poverty-stricken county
by national standards, and Jinde charities
constantly gives care and help to students
there. In 2015 we sponsored 31 students in
Fengshan, Fengning. The “Love team” of
the West Church in Beijing began to sponsor
10 students in primary school in 2014; from
December 9th to 11th, parish priest Zhang
Hongbo and lay people from the West
Church and from Jinde Charities visited the
children together.
In 2014 the Jinde Christmas party launched a project to help female students in poverty. In the middle of July some of
the donors along with their children went to the village of Lingshou, Hebei to hand out the donations; the children also
collaboratively prepared gifts to give the people in the mountain area. Xiaoshuai who is with his parents on the visit is about
to start his 5th grade course; he said “The students we visited have hardly anything, but they work so hard and do so well
at school. I’ve got even less reason not to value the chances to study that my parents have given me. I want to study harder
myself and repay my Mum and Dad.”
16
Guizhou and Yunnan
are key districts for the
scholarship projects.
From November 7th
to 24th 2015, the Jinde
scholarship department
provided scholarships
for girl students and
primary school students
in Anshun , Anlong,
Duyun, Dushan, Libo,
Sandu, Zhaotong
and other places, the
scholarships totaling
243,300 Yuan.
Shao Bicheng is a new student in 3rd high school
of Qiaojia county, Yunnan province. The transport
situation is so bad that after the class it may take
2-3 hours to go home. She is an adopted child and
living in a single parent family. Her father is mute
and deaf, so she was raised by her grandmother.
Now her grandmother is elderly and in poor health.
Since the soil is barren, her father could only live
by planting potatoes. Every time she went home
she always helped her father to do housework
and farm work. “When I was a little girl I always
thought, What can I do to get to junior school?
What can I do to get to high school? ...so many
problems haunted me. When I was in junior school
I realized that our country could give subsidies. I
finished junior school with this help. But when it
was time for high school, I was still worried because high school education does not count as compulsory education. I often
thought I would have to give up my education. But I am fortunate because you came to help me with this sponsorship, so I can
bravely carry on with my dream. It’s you who have you given me my confidence back and given me help and encouragement.
Later on I want to pay this back to society and pass on love to people to come.” Bicheng is a strong and diligent girl , we hope
that with the help of the donors she will go far.

Care for the Elderly
In 2015 the department of care for the elderly helped 20 charity groups, and directly sponsored 21 elderly people living alone.
In addition to this, we actively developed activities, training and fundraising programs for elderly people.
What is most welcome - activities for senior citizens’ health
“Senior Citizen’s Health-Care Activities”
are activities for the elderly people
living alone in rural areas. In 2015,
such activities were held in Xingtai,
Cangzhou, Handan and other villages
once per month. Over the year 6,400
people attended. The “Senior Citizen’s
Health-Care Activities” combine talks
on health, free blood-sugar and blood
pressure examinations and counseling,
excursions and group birthday parties etc
for the elderly people. They enrich the
life of the senior citizens, and make them
more healthy, confident and happy.
The Senior citizens are keen to learn, and pay great attention
to the talks. They said “the class is very good. The themes
are relevant to our life, it is very important.” Knowledge abut
coronary heart disease, the prevention and treatment of high-
blood pressure, the prevention of seasonal illnesses, dental
hygiene.... Knowing about these things helps elderly people
to change their ideas and avoid unhealthy habits, they become
healthier.

at his empty seat. I missed him and was
unwilling to go into the room where we
used to live. After these activities my mind
changed. When I go home, I think about
the doctors’ classes, the sisters’ activities, I
get more relaxed, and I feel I can manage
to live on my own.”
Grandma Li in Xizhongyin village suffered
a sudden stroke when she was less than
60 years old. After treatment, her left leg and left hand were paralyzed; she could only walk with a stick and did the
housework with one hand. “I felt incompetent that I could not help my husband in the fields or hug my little grandson, and
the daily medicine cost money.” Grandma Li sighed and frowned all the time. But after the activities her smile began to
reappear; her left hand could do a series of moves and gradually became stronger. Now she keeps going with the activities
every month, following the doctor’s advice, changing her habits and learning to take care of herself. Now Grandma Li
feels very happy although her left hand and left leg are not completely recovered. She has accepted the paralysis, and says:
”Sadness is useless, I keep on praying and living actively, to pass my smile on to other old people, and life also becomes
full of hope.”
Training activities - improving quality of service and Internet Connection
1.Hospital pastoral work and palliative care conference:
From October 9th to 10th, 80 people from 50 different organizations and congregations joined a conference about the idea
and practice of palliative care and hospice care, exploration of one’s own
wounds, the healing of the story of one’s losses and accompaniment of
people in depression. The training enabled the participants to learn about
the practice of palliative care, arousing great interest.
2.Self-care workshop and annual meeting on care of the elderly
From December 14th to 17th, 26 organizations involved in care for the
elderly, comprising 55 people from Fujian, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Shanxi,
Henan and Hebei, joined the workshop and annual meeting. 15 of them
19
Special On-line Appeal
were first-time participants for training and study of care of the elderly. The participants in the meeting directly serve a total
of 1,900 old people. Since participants face tiredness and pressure and the emotion from the death of old people for whom
they work, the content of workshop included paying attention to signs of stress and dealing with emotion and pressure. The
workshop also included lectures and exercises, which made the content easy to learn and practice.
Mid-Autumn Festival
From September 18th to 27th , we raised 8,000 Yuan through an
on-line campaign for 324 elderly people and 44 families in poverty
to provide things necessary for the mid-autumn festival: moon
cakes, eggs, oil, meat and fruit. And the Saint Teresa community
bought fish to elderly people living alone, according to local
custom, and offered warm pillows to residents of Mianyang Ivy
rest home in Sichuan, where there is no central heating in winter.
Double Ninth Festival Appeal
We launched an appeal to give a meal, cotton hats and socks to 500 elderly people living alone. At the same time the volunteers
who served the elderly people also experienced support and warmth, which helped them to serve more eagerly.
The Smile Collection
In order to show the charisma of older people, and to promote the spirit of respect and care for the elderly, we launched a “Smile
Collection” to collect photos of old people with smiles. The activity soon got a good response and 25 organizations offered 130
photos depicting the smiles of old people with new year’s wishes.
The “Teeth With Love” project:
On December 20th, 2014 the Christmas party launched the “Teeth
With Love” project. On the following day, 4 residents in the Jinde
Rest Home appeared with new teeth, which signaled the start of
the project. After this, nearly 60 elderly people in Hebei, Shanxi,
Chongqing had dentures fitted. Since the procedure is complex, some
of the people are still in the process of the installment.

HIV Prevention
“Preventing HIV, accepting HIV, caring about HIV” is Jinde’s main direction in this domain. From 2002 the department of
HIV-prevention began to serve 100 HIV families, giving them sincere practical and psychological accompaniment. We have
already become their trustworthy friends. As homosexual lifestyles become more widespread, and the age of infected people
becomes lower, Jinde offered group training to provide medical knowledge and psychological counseling; in addition to
financial support for them to continue to study, we held a series of youth activities, to help them grow healthily and happily;
the department of AIDS prevention also frequently welcomes infected people, visits patients and has a telephone counseling
helpline. As a catholic-based NGO, our AIDS-prevention department is exploring directions of how, from the perspective of
faith, to care about and to support people infected by HIV.
From August 15th to 20th, Jinde Charities led
10 children from families affected by HIV to
join the activity named “Love Under The Sun
- 2015 Summer Camp” which was organized
by the China STD & AIDS Prevention
Association and the Chinese Health Education
Center. On August 18th, the children joined
with Peng Liyuan, Yao Ming, Jang Wenli, Pu
Cunxin, Ju Ping , Shen Na and other celebrities
in vocal performances, basketball, and other
games.
This year is the second year for Jinde AIDS
Prevention Department to bring children to join
the activity. Peng Liyuan still remembers Little
Meng - the child who joined the summer camp
last year. After appreciating the children’s song
“Let us row the oars”, Peng Liyuan talked
to Little Meng and encouraged the children to
study hard, and develop a good character. The
country is always paying attention to their growth and health.
The climax of the session was the basketball game:
the celebrity team led by Pu Cunxin challenged the
professional team led by Yao Ming. Peng Liyuan
announced the beginning of the match; 10 children
of Jinde were teammates of Yao Ming. Two of them
working as a pair wedged the ball between their bellies
and passed it to Yao Ming! At the end of the game,
when Yao Ming lifted up Xiao Yi to do the “slam
dunk”, Xiao Yi almost burst with excitement.
21
At the end, all the young people expressed their attitude: we will
be stronger and be independent to return to society.
Children of HIV-infected families living in rural areas easily suffer
self-contempt because of their limited horizons and educational
environment. Through these sessions the children broaden their
horizon, get more relaxed and improve their knowledge, as well
as experiencing loving care from country and society.
On June 21st Jinde Charities joined the
International Food Festival in Xuanwumen
Church in Beijing. The theme of the festival
was to pay attention to HIV-infected families.
The AIDS Prevention Department brought
shoes, handbags, bed sheets and root carvings
made by families affected by HIV. At the
English language mass that day, Fr. Zhen
Xuebin specially played a VCR of children
from HIV-affected families. Xuanwumen
Church donated the collection from the English
Mass and the income of the festival to Jinde
Charities, in order to support HIV-affected
families and children.
Every year we frequently introduce professional counselors to hold health lectures for people infected by HIV.

Summary of Work in the Year 2015
In the process of accompanying AIDS-affected families, we encourage them to develop hobbies and produce craftwork which
can increase their income and improve their quality of life.
The number of HIV-infections
increases every year; their age
becomes younger, and HIV is
silently making its way into
campuses, so improving people’s
knowledge of HIV is important.
In 2015 the AIDS Prevention
Department of Jinde and the
Social Service Centers of Xi’an,
Lanzhou, Taiyuan, Handan
dioceses and Francis Xavier
Volunteers undertook an activity
called “Speak out and act about
AIDS, Forward to Zero HIV”.
This was a large-scale awareness
activity, focusing on helping
young people learn about HIV
prevention.

Volunteer Training
Love needs dedication, love even more needs passing on. In order to help
young Catholics realize the value of life through social service and life
experience, to live the love that Jesus gave us, and to cultivate the spirit
of serving others and society, in 2010 Jinde launched the “Matteo Ricci
Volunteer Program”.
In 2015, we recruited the 6th group of 23 Matteo Ricci Volunteers;
in the end 18 young people went to charity organizations, training
organizations and HIV centers, rest homes and homes for disabled
infants for full-time service with the spirit of dedication, justice,
simplicity and teamwork with a view to sharing love.
An invitation from the Heavenly Father brought me into a strange city with
strange people and even a new lifestyle. I took the train with curiosity but
with a peaceful heart to go on an unknown journey, expecting whatever
kind of life the Lord would give me.
Time flies: I have already spent two months here (at Biancun Disabled
Infants’ Home). I have got used to being here and the strangers have
become familiar to me. There is a person who I have got to know whose
name is called Dagang. That name [“Great Steel”] impressed me from
the first. Now I have become like his elder brother and he is my younger
brother; I am his teacher, he is my student; I am his bodyguard, his is my
“boss”. He’s always playing unconscious jokes on me to make me happy,
and I’ve been influenced by his naughtiness. From the first I had the impression he was both innocent and clever. And now
I’ve seen his impetuous and strong heart. He is eager to study: I have taught him astronomy and geography, history and bible;
he has patiently accepted my inexperienced methods. He’s delightful all the time, whether were chatting, having an exam,
eating, whether the situation is serious or relaxed. I know from talking with him he is always thinking of his parents and
other sisters; he is always talking to me about the goodness of his parents and aunts, how they love him and how much he is
thinking of them. From this way I know Dagang is a really affectionate person.
Dagang and me are brothers made by God! I realized after a while the all the previous volunteers had been girls, and it was
a bit inconvenient for them to look after Dagang, there should be a boy to look after him. I deeply felt that it is not me who
chose to be there, but that God chose me to finish his plan.
Author of his article : Wu Zhiwen , 22 years old, who is the only child of his family. He is from Shanghai, and joined the 6th
group of Matteo Ricci volunteers. He is now serving the Liming Family in Hebei.

Dinghan fund
As soon as it was founded Jinde set up the Dinghan Fund especially to help church programs. The fund has devoted itself to
the development of team building, undertaking the principles of equality regardless of region, gender or community, in order
to give assistance to the vulnerable, and
provide opportunities for group and individual
development. The fields of service includes the
Taocheng scholarships (nurturing vocations);
pastoral care, which includes evangelizing and
primary church team building (education of
lay people); the protection of ancient church
buildings and construction projects; mass fees,
etc.
In 2015, the Dinghan fund received special
donations of 2,330,427.71 Yuan; expenditure
was 2,398,057.81 Yuan. The Dinghan fund
assisted construction work for 26 churches,

In the evening of September 16th , two sisters named Deng Xiufeng and Huang Lixiang
from the Daming Holy Mary Community in Handan, Hebei suffered a car accident,
which drew the attention of clergy and faithful around China. Sister Deng passed away
in September 24th because of severe injuries; Sister
Huang underwent a successful operation and is in
the process of recovery. After the accident, Dinghan
Fund asked for donations from the internet and via
Faith Weekly, and raised 150,000.00 Yuan for the
sisters.
On May 16th the Dinghan Fund launched an environmental
activity named “Youth Environment Protection”. 60 Catholics
participated, including college students and sisters from Hebei
seminary. The purpose of this activity is to encourage young
Catholics to take part in environmental protection, to promote
and improve awareness, to cherish nature as a gift of God, and
recover a green world.
stipends for 37 priests amounted to 111,300.00 Yuan; sponsorship of 144,200.00 Yuan was given to 10 religious, 1 priest and
40 sisters; 13 faith education programs received 1,440,854.92 Yuan; 18,800.00 Yuan was spent on medical fees for people who

Charity Promotion
“Celebrity Forum” 2015
The “Celebrity Forum” began in 2013, and up to now
has been successfully held 3 times. We invited famous
author and scholar Professor Li Jiatong, and senior
trainer Hei Youlong and other distinguished scholars
and entrepreneurs to share their experience and
optimistic attitude toward life.
On May 16th, 2015, the “celebrity forum” was held
in Beijing; the political and commercial leader and
well-known scholar Ou Jinde was invited to give a
talk on the theme “The Success and Responsibility of
an Entrepreneur”, which attracted 230 people from
business, charity and academia.
Mr. Ou Jinde used his rich experience as Deputy
Mayor of Taipei and chairman of the Taiwan High-
Speed Rail Company to show his “people-oriented” management philosophy. ”To run a company you must share your vision
with your staff, because your clients come to know your company on these basic levels.” ”As administrators, we should respect
every staff member, and pay them full attention when they feel grieved about any aspect of their work.” Mr Ou is a very
successful man, but remains humble, and this moved everyone present at the occasion.
“Jesus told us we should be the salt of the earth, to live out the faith not only by using the tongue, but by executing our work
with a consecrated spirit, based on truth and justice, and to make progress with love.... Salt needs to be dissolved so that it
can function, and we should be like salt to dissolve ourselves with humility into the groups we belong to.” Mr. Ou especially
pointed out that the responsibility of the entrepreneur is to use their experience and ability in concrete dealings to spread love
to families, societies and countries and even the whole world.
The “Celebrity Forum” also included a face-to-face
interactive session for the participants and celebrities.
Participants were eager to ask questions about how
to deal with crises, about shaping corporate culture
and even private family work problems, and Mr Ou
was happy to respond to them. Some non-Catholics
joined this activity: one of them, a participant from
Beijing, said: “I have been looking for positive
energy to guide my life. At a point when I felt really
confused I saw the info from WeChat and so I came.
I was inspired and moved by this program, and I will
continue to participate in this activity in the future.”

Summary of Work in the Year 2015
The musical drama ”Streetlight“ was performed in Beijing to spread the spirit of love and charity.
On July 18th , Jinde associated
with an Italian band named GEN
ROSSO, giving a show called
”Streetlight“ in a Beijing theater.
The members of GEN ROSSO live
a consecrated community life in a
spirit of charity, with the principles
of providing assistance to vulnerable
people regardless of race, gender or
community. Their principles exactly
match our organization, and this
show not only helped the program
for female high school students
in poverty, but spread charity and
universal love to society through
drama as well.
”Streetlight“ was composed in 2000; it is a rock-and-roll musical drama of two scenes adapted from a true story about the
value of life and its real meaning. In spite of the emphasis on performance, the drama also involved interaction with audience.
In one of the scenes, the artists of GEN ROSSO led young people to dance on stage. Before the performance the young people
were trained by the international art director. “It was a great experience!” one of the girls said with excitement.
Ticket-booking was online, and many young people were attracted. ”This is the first time for me to see a musical drama. The
story was very attractive, and almost every song was a classic. What surprised me most was that just four people could sing
such beautiful harmony. Brilliant!” This was how an on-line friend expressed his admiration after the show.
Sisters’ Run
2015 is the seventh year for the “Sisters’
Marathon”. 26 events raised 460,000 Yuan
which benefited more than 1,000 people. Sisters
courageously appealed for vulnerable people in
society and gained great support. The “Sisters’
Run” was launched in Beijing, Tianjin, Helong,
and Taiyuan; the number of participants was over
300 people. The Jinde webpage featuring the
“Sisters’ Run” received over 20,000 hits per day.
Sisters also joined the work of administration
and organization. The biggest site was in Beijing,
organized by sisters from St Joseph’s convent in
  9 月 20 日北京国际马拉松
27
Beijing Diocese.
Looking back over the experience of the development of “Sisters’ Run”, it has been a process of three steps. 2009-2011 was
the stage of propagation of the idea, as sisters needed to go out from their communities to realize this new method of fund-
raising; they relied on the Foundation for funding the organization. From 2012-2013, the sisters were able to raise 40%-
60% of the amount themselves, and learned
to use network communication and social
networking services; 2014-2015 (including
2016) is the period when the sisters have
raised all funds by themselves, even doing
the program-administration: all the events use
WeChat for appeals and they have promoted
their programs via off-line activities to raise
money.
Sept 20th Beijing International Marathon
Sept 13th Tianjin International Marathon Sept 5th Helong International Marathon
After signing an agreement with the
Beijing Marathon, the “Sisters’
Run” became much better known
among running enthusiasts; this year,
with the participation of runners from
the Beijing Marathon, half of the
“sisters’ run” participants were
actually volunteers from society. Wang
Feng and Peng Dazhi , who joined the
marathon before, stayed in contact with
us and supported the sisters’ charity
program; Wang Feng also appealed for
funds on a Social Networking Service
after the marathon, raising 2,400 Yuan.

2015 Christmas Party
The atmosphere of Christmas is always strong during December. In December of 2015, Jinde held 3 large charity parties.
On December 3rd, the first charity party was held in the
World Trade Plaza Hotel in Shijiazhuang. This party was in
cooperation with Hebei Number 4 Hospital, Shijiazhuang
World Trade Plaza Hotel and 15 other organizations to give
hope, love and blessings to people in need. At the party we
launched the “Million Loving Charity Movement – to help
poor children with congenital heart disease”, Jinde cooperated
the Number 4 Hospital and raised funds together to help with
operation fees for 100 patients.
On December 18th, the eleventh Jinde
Christmas charity event was held. This
party continued the theme “We are
together” and ended in a warm atmosphere.
We raised funds for disabled people and
orphans, for rehabilitation assistance aids
and for subsidizing high school students.
We also launched “Safe Homes For Lonely
Elderly People” to help old people in the
Jinde Rest Home. More than 500 people
from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Shanxi,
Hubei and Hebei joined the party, and we
raised funds of 638,285.47 Yuan.
29
On December 19th , Jinde Charities cooperated
with the social service center of Handan diocese to
hold a charity party named “Love in Handan”.
This party had two parts: ”Passing on Love”
which was to raise funds for the living expenses
of disabled children for 1 year; and “Starting Our
Dream” which was to raise fund for students in
hardship, and give them tuition fees and living
expenses. The party gained support from Catholics
of Handan and from all sectors of the community:
650 people participated. With dancing, solo singing,
Erhu [Chinese two-stringed fiddle] solo and a
choir, the party was rich and moving. Bishop Sun
A Charity Auction was the
climax of the party, and the
donors bid enthusiastically.
Several times, successful
guest bidders donated their
acquisitions for re-auction,
and this spirit touched all
the people present. Finally
6 paintings and two watches
were auctioned for the sum of
126,000 Yuan.
Jigen of Handan diocese said that he had participated in many Christmas parties organized by Jinde in Shijiazhuang with
a lot of lay people, but many brothers and
sisters could not travel so far to join in. He
said: ”Jinde suggested to us to launch such
activities ourselves, motivating more people
to experience charity and bringing more
people to join. This year is our first year; it
has been a great success. I thank for your
support and unselfishness. This year has been
a good beginning: we must be sure to keep
holding such meaningful activities again next
year and the year after!”

  • 4. 02 Preamble Be Merciful Like the Heavenly Father Once a journalist asked a community about their full-time dedication: What is the reason for them to live an unmarried consecrated life without individual property? The answer was: all people dedicate their life for something, some for love, some for their children, and some for money or power.... Everyone has their own objects to dedicate themselves to, don’t they? People may become serious about the ancient question about “what do people live for” as they grow old; and at Jinde Charities, with a background of Catholic belief, we are always asking ourselves ”what is the mission we exist for?” Society has institutions of law to keep itself in order, but our mission should be “to make others loved like brothers and sisters”. Our goal is to bear witness to love, making more people see the source of love and hope. The early church community faced cruel persecution, living a concealed religious life, but the unusual way they lived in brotherhood and sisterhood was what distinguished them from unbelievers. At that time, caring about the poor, equality, and friendship became the signs of our church. The total program expenditure of Jinde in 2015 was 12,408,111.59 Yuan, which occupied 95.90% of the annual expenditure and was equivalent to 88.50% of the balance of the past year 2014. According to the ’Regulation on Foundation Administration‘ , the charitable expenditure of public placement foundations must not be less than 70% of the previous year; Jinde has met the demand of the Regulation. The best way for the charitable industry to report is through numbers, but finally numbers cannot express the essence of charity. Real charity is to deliver the spirit of philanthropy, sincerity and fraternity to the world. In 2015, Jinde launched the youth start-up program, which is to encourage more young people to serve society in an innovative way; In 2015, Jinde’s elderly care department organized counseling training, which hopes to help more homes for elderly to provide both physical and psychological care. In 2015, 6 children from HIV-infected families served by the Jinde AIDS-prevention department entered into higher education, and Jinde will continue to accompany with them. In 2015, the Jinde psychological counseling center was founded, which indicated that Jinde will pay more attention to spiritual and psychological areas…. The year 2016 is the Jubilee of mercy: our Pope Francis makes an appeal for us to live like Christ, and lead more brothers and sisters to live in mercy like our heavenly Father. Today, our material standard of living is improving, but we meet a lot of confusion and cannot see the meaning of life. The revelation of Bible, the teaching of our Church , and the reflection of scientists all remind us: the meaning of life starts from LOVE. Where does LOVE begin? In Malta, a priest was nominated as parish priest. He was new and felt anxious; when he asked some experienced old people about administration and pastoral work, he was told to love other priests.... He was puzzled, but made efforts to do as the elders had said. Unexpectedly, after a few weeks, a youth in his parish told him that he want to live a consecrated life, and a woman gave her jewelry to him for the poor after Mass. Jesus told us that we should love our neighbors: love can unconsciously change our appearance, making us like Christ. Chairman of Jinde Charities Board of Directors:
  • 5. 03 Disaster Relief From January 1st to 5th, 2015, in the worst-hit area of the Earthquake, Jinde distributed packages entitled “Love one another” to 1336 students of Wuzhai central school in Yongshan county, 124 students in Xiaomidi School, 465 students in Laoqingwan school, 240 students in Muqiaowan school, and to 209 students in Bapiwan school. The packages in total were valued at 487,990 Yuan. In each package there were cotton shoes , socks, hats, and gloves. The program was launched in a high altitude mountain area which is not suitable for growing crops, and because of transport problems, younger people leave to find jobs, so that the problem of remaining children and elderly people is severe. There are about a thousand people of the Yi and Miao nationalities; over 60% of them are left-behind children. At New Year, the “Love one another” packages gave them spiritual as well as physical warmth. Earthquake in Ludian, Yunnan Summary of Work in the Year 2015
  • 6. 04 “Hands are the gloves, and feet are the shoes and socks”, she said, resting her cheek on the “love one another” package. “What is love? Love is the warmth we feel when we put them on!” was how one girl who got a package explained the meaning of brotherly love. 珍 Summary of Work in the Year 2015 惜He is five years old and after obtaining the shoes he hurried to the step to put them on, but he could not take off his old shoes: there was a string from the upper of the shoes, wound round and round his ankle, and tied in a knot. The little boy patiently tried to untie it. “Why are they tied on like that?” “The shoes are so big, and they are tied so as not to drop off.” Finally he got off his old shoe, unexpectedly a “miracle” happened, the insole stuck to the sock and came off with it. He put it in the shoe he had just taken off, and took up his new shoe, rubbed it and put it on. ”Does it fit?” He nodded but wanted to take it off again. “Put them both on and walk around, to see if it’s comfortable?” He shook his head. “Don’t you like it?” ”I like it.” “Then put it on and walk!” “......” He put the shoe back into the box and said: “I want to wear it for New Year.”
  • 7. 05 Disaster Relief for the Nepal Earthquake His name is Zhang Yonghou; he is 5 years old and taking the preschool course. His elder sister is in grade 3 in the same school, his elder brother is in grade 2. He said he had never worn a pair of new shoes since he was born: his mother always gave him his brother’s. After getting the shoes, people cannot help opening the box and trying them At 14:11, April 25th, 2015, Nepal suffered a 8.1 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake caused at least 8,786 deaths and 22,303 injuries, which included casualties in the Chinese province of Tibet. “If one part is hurt, all the parts share its pain.” (1 Cor 12:26) On April 26, Good Shepherd Sunday, Pope Francis held a time of prayer with the Regina Coeli, inviting all the faithful there to pray for the inhabitants of Nepal. The Pope said: ”I pray for the people who died in the disaster and from injuries, and pray for the people in the disaster who suffered: may they receive brotherly care. Let us pray for Our Lady to accompany them.” The earthquake also touched the heart of on, but he just held the box and stood still. I encouraged him to try them on, but he said no. And he told us it was because he had no socks, and his feet were dirty: he didn’t want to dirty the new shoes. On his knee there was a big hole, patched with a different cloth. Yonghou said that this was his first pair of new shoes, and with good quality. My first pair of new shoes
  • 8. 06 Summary of Work in the Year 2015 the clergy and faithful of the Chinese church. So it was that Zhejiang Catholic Church, Tianjin church, Qingdao church, and Shunde church joined with the worldwide clergy and faithful and the Pope in their concern, and donated 192,069.00 Yuan via Jinde to the worst-hit area: 2 steel tiles and waterproof canvas for each of 95 victims were delivered, which the inhabitants of villages said are the most useful “gifts”. Bp. Paul Simick from Nepal sent a letter through the Holy See indicating that the donation was received and used in the places in need. The Holy See emphasized: ”Please give our thanks to the bishops, priests, and faithful from Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Qingdao, Jiangmen, Tianjin, and Taiyuan dioceses for the donation to Nepal. We express great thankfulness to everyone in the name of the Holy See: Thanks for their kindness and their attention to the Holy Church.” Distribution and color steel tile waterproof canvas for the victims, the house is no longer leaking Explosion at Tanggu, Tianjin At 11:20PM, August 12th, The explosion happened in the dangerous cargo warehouse of Tianjin Gangruihai company. The ”8/12” explosion stunned whole country of China; the effect of two explosions equal to 25 tons of TNT, which not only caused great loss of property, damage to the environment, and the injuries to people, but caused psychological ill effects for the people in the New Binghai district. After the explosion Jinde immediately contacted local partners – the social service center of Tianjin diocese – to make an assessment, and dispatched tents, clothes, soda water, masks and shoes etc to the people in most need from August 13th to August 18th. On August 21st personnel from Jinde psychology counseling center came to Tanggu, giving the inhabitants psychological help and offering an advice service to the counseling teachers who served in the disaster area. Specific activities: On August 13th, 60 staff and volunteers from Jinde’s partner organization – Tianjin diocese social service center – came to the “worst-hit area”. 12 hours after the explosion, they started to dispatch tents, clothes and soda water to the resettlement point of Taida Number 2 primary school, Taida hospital and the Harbor hospital; at the same time, professional medical volunteers offered the service of transporting casualties, medical assessment and volunteering in fixed points. Delivering shoes and masks for the police forces in the worst-hit area.
  • 9. 07 On August 18th , according to the needs of the military and armed police after the disaster, Jinde cooperated with the social service center of Tianjin diocese to dispatch 1000 masks, 100 rubber boots and 1000 boxes of essential balms etc to the Number 5 Police Team in Tianjin conducting surveillance and cleansing missions. On August 26th , Jinde counseling center, under the leadership of Dr. Peter Chen Tianzhi, joined the intervention supervision training where 150 students learned to help the suffering and traumas of the people who gave assistance to the disaster area. After the training, several organizations held a conference to discuss how to plan and conduct psychological intervention work for people in disaster areas, and how to join more social resources to rebuild the psychological home of people in disaster areas. Mr. X is an example of the people served by the Jinde counseling team. When explosion occurred, the elderly mother of Mr. X and his wife and young daughter were at home; as the explosion shattered the windows, fragments of glass and the falling windows injured the three persons. His daughter was severely injured, with lost teeth and a broken jaw; her arm was also broken. His wife gave her attention to the elderly woman who couldn’t move freely, and neglected to help her daughter, which made her feel ignored and abandoned. After the disaster, the family members all suffered from acute stress disorder and probably from post-traumatic stress disorder. Especially for his daughter, it was the first time that she had experienced such a disaster. She was afraid of being disfigured, and the feeling of being abandoned left her feeling disappointed with her family. She could not fall asleep every night, and when she did finally sleep, she would wake up at the time the explosion happened. Sudden sounds made her over-react and jump; she became impatient and easily got angry, having the symptoms of headaches and uncomfortable feelings in the stomach, with obvious “flash-backs”. the scene of the explosion seemed to keep re-occurring, like American Videos. Mrs. Shen helped them relax by her emergency trauma intervention skills and relaxation therapy and the method of dialoguing with the traumatic event. Through cognitive restructuring she helped them to have a deeper understanding of “disasters”, to cherish life and the people around them, and to live a more proactive life. Because it concerned the family’s reconstruction and Stories reinforcement, Mrs. Shen offered treatment to the family as a whole. During the course of the treatment, they were all thankful for the courage and help between family members; they promised with tears that they will love each other, and support each other through their acceptance. After the sessions, Mr. X with his family were thankful for the work of related departments in the wake of the disaster and the timely and effective psychological assistance, and they hoped that they would receive follow-up treatment.
  • 10. 08 The Mid-Autumn festival in Minxian county In September 15th , 2014 Jinde launched an activity named “the house that love built” for families in poverty in the disaster area of Minxian county. After 4 months of construction, 23 poor households moved into new houses before the 2015 Spring Festival, which is a sign for them of end the unendurable time of living in tents. After one year, although the 23 families now are living in their new houses, the life in poverty continues. They are living at present in a remote valley, can only get to other places by walking. Going to the nearest town, Meichuan, can take 1 or 2 hours. In the Mid-Autumn festival and national day most people gather at home with their families to eat moon cakes and enjoy the full moon, but they have no such concept because they live their whole life in the mountain area and don’t even know the taste of moon cakes. In order to enable the poor families to live a “tasty” mid-autumn, Jinde launched “the taste of mid-autumn” activity which raised the sum of 2910.57 Yuan for purchasing moon cakes and fruits for the 23 families. Some of the older people there had never been out of the mountains, and didn’t know the taste of moon cakes. The grandson opened the package and gave it to his grandmother. Poverty forces the younger people to work away from home, and the old people and children left behind are so poor and pitiable; we hope that in our future work we can go through all the families and give happiness and rejoicing to the children and elderly people.
  • 11. 09 Large-scale disaster-prevention and reduction courses In May and June, Jinde joined the “Say no to disaster ” activity held by the CFPA humanitarian aid network. As a co- organizer in Hebei, Jinde organized a disaster-prevention and reduction class and drill in Xingyan central school, Shijiazhuang girls’ high school, and Hebei University of Economics and Business Studies to improve awareness of security and the ability to deal with accidents. The disaster-prevention and reduction trainers shared more knowledge about self- rescue and improved awareness of public security and the capacity for disaster prevention, self help and mutual assistance. In Shijiazhuang girls’ school, over 300 students and teachers joined the activity. Headmaster Jia Ning was critical of the students’ performance in the practice session: ”Please take good note of this session. We should pay more attention to practice sessions so that possible losses are diminished.” The picture shows headmaster Jia Ning playing the “walking in the air” game with the students. Nurses and doctors of the People’s Hospital teaching about CPR. All the students of Xingyan central primary school joined practice sessions for disaster prevention and reduction, which offsets the lack of training of rural communities and rural primary schools. Summary of Work in the Year 2015
  • 12. 10 Summary of Work in the Year 2015 Emergency aid From January 1st to December 31st, 2015, we received 97 letters or direct requests from families of patients. When we told them about our aims, a few of them withdrew their application (the families were not so poor); in other cases hospitals were contacted through us and then reduced the cost of medical treatment, so the families withdrew their application. The actual number of the people receiving assistance were 90; 7 of the cases are in process; 1 of them passed away so that the procedure was canceled; in one case assistance was stopped because of an objection received on-line; 5 of them requested further assistance. 70% of them have already recovered after the assistance. For now many more people need help. In 2015, we raised the sum of 1,420,982.95 Yuan, of which 987,104.42 Yuan paid for the treatment of the 73 people mentioned above. Other donations are being used to make further payments. Emergency aid to Individuals Group medical project On December 3rd, 2015 we launched the “Million Warm Hearts” campaign – to help people with congenital heart disease. This project plans to sponsor 100 patients with heart disease in Hebei N° 4 Hospital. It is worth mentioning that this campaign has drawn in N° 4 Hospital, the World Trade Plaza Hotel, Aier Ophthalmic Hospital and other units. A partial list gives the names of 14 media organizations, including Fenghuang, Sina, Sohu, Changcheng Hebei Youth Newspaper, Yanzhao City Newspaper, and Shijiazhuang TV which reported or reposted the news. In 2015 we helped the family of Nuonuo who suffered from a disastrous fire, and cooperated other organizations to raise operation fees for this family. On August 6th we held the “I Want A New Home charity bazaar” by which the family has raised all the money they need through donors’ assistance.
  • 13. 11 Social Development Populations with special needs, helping in disaster areas, and relief work in poor areas are all domains where we serve. But this is not sufficient. We are also aiming to improve the standard of living in poor areas, to set up platforms for local cultures to develop roots, and to promote regional sustainable development! cultivation assistance projects 1.Stock-Breeding project in Dahe village, Taiping town, Lushan county Dahe village is in mountain area. The main income is through forestry and from employment outside the district. In the village there are 2,250 people, among whom there are 180 families in poverty, 30 families benefiting from the “five guarantees” , and 60 low-income families. The average income of the farmers is 2,200 Yuan. The problem of left-behind single people, children and women is severe. In 2015, the key point of the stock-breeding project of Jinde Charities is to strengthen, deepen and enlarge on the base of 2014, and fulfill the sustainable development of the project. 10 new families entered into the cooperative, expanding the breeding foundation, developing the technical skills of members and their comprehensive cooperative organization through a series of training and instructions. 2.Maca planting project of in Mashu town, Qiaojia county Mashu village has 8 administrative villages comprising 240 groups, or 36,000 people in all. The main ethnic groups of the village are Han, Yi, Miao, Buyi, and Lisu. The sources of income of the village are individual and meager. The villagers mainly plant corn, potatoes and wheat. They breed pigs for bacon, and free-range poultry on a small scale. Working outside the district has become the main income source of their economy. The average income is 900 Yuan. Maca is a plant of Villagers from Mashu hope to get rid of the backward production conditions through planting Maca.
  • 14. 12 3. Reservoir project in Lincheng Xingtai Xinglin Agriculture Ecological Garden is an integrated ecological base for development involving agriculture, forestry development and services. It contains 30,000 walnut trees and 5,000 poplar trees, as well as over 3,000 trees of other kinds, with 500 Mu of agricultural land in use. Every year about 2,000 people come for a time of retreat in the Saint Teresa spiritual center. Since underground water is not available for exploitation there, the main water source is from the mountains, from rain and winter snow. At present the reservoir is too small and can only be used to store water that is not for domestic use; the domestic water supply is altogether insufficient. Jinde provided 79,021.60 Yuan to help the garden to build a closed reservoir. The reservoir’s diameter is 6 meters medicinal value, and its economical value is high; it is very suitable for cultivation in the locality, but the seed is so expensive that the villagers cannot afford it. Jinde gave subsidies of 300,000 Yuan to the villagers, and set up a project group, selecting farmer households, signing rent agreements, and inviting experts for training from time to time. Through planting Maca, the villagers gained an increase in income: they not only received rent of 400 Yuan per Mu, but obtained labor fees of 1,000 Yuan per Mu. Now that the Maca has been harvested, if the selling conditions are good, the villagers can gain bonuses. The project will also be a rolling development, leading gradually more villagers to leave poverty behind. Maca harvest and the depth is 8 meters; construction started on September 30th and finished on November 20th. To ensure the safety of the construction, we searched for an experienced construction team and used the best materials. This reservoir can store sufficient water and is connected to the retreat building by over 1,000 meters of pipes, to provide water for all the staff of the Saint Teresa Spiritual Center and the people who come there on retreat. “SAP Spring Clean-Out’’ distribution of clothes SAP is a software company in Germany, with a subsidiary company in Beijing that launched a “clothing donation activity” from April 8th to 15th. Jinde Charities is a partner for this activity, organizing the distribution of clothes. The thousands of clothes donated were almost new; after and after thorough washing and disinfection, the clothes were sent to Handan Daming Sigao correction house, Yunnan Zhaotong Yongshanliujin Trinity Church and Gansu Wuwei Catholic Church.
  • 15. 13 Chinese people’s parenting seminar From December 11th to 12th, the Chinese people’s parenting seminar, which was held in Shijiazhuang, was led by Jinde Charities Foundation and the Amity Foundation. 40 organizations which conduct basic level child welfare work together with scholars and specialists talked with governmental officials, planning the direction for the development of Child- rearing in our country, aiming at enhancing communication and improving the self- discipline of the profession, and benefiting children, improving the effectiveness of welfare policy in China and the healthy development of children in China. NGO Capacity-Building Project 1.NGO Capacity-Building Project The NGOs with a religious background are become more numerous; Catholic dioceses are continually launching work services, but their professionalism should be enhanced. And communication among these organizations is limited and needs to improve. Jinde NGO Capacity-Building Project is a three-year plan which contains four training sessions and 15 sub-projects. The training sessions are to give a professional theoretical input, and the sub- projects are an opportunity for practicing the concepts that have been learned. 2015 is the second year of the three-year plan. Last August we held third training session. Five sub-projects were begun in this year. The Guizhou goose-breeding project and the Xianxian rural women’s psychological care project were completed in 2014; the projects which were undertaken in 2015 were rubbish-separation and processing for the Liming Home, the training of Tianjin child psychology counseling personnel and a psychological counseling project for the 60-65 age group in Xianxian. Peter Drucker, a senior lecturer in social organization learning center, Mr. Xue Jianxin shared the practice of the five leading behavior. 2.Cerebral Palsy Network and TOT project The Cerebral Palsy Network was founded in 2007, launched by four managers from four different organizations. Xiaoshuai who is with his parents on the visit is about to start his 5th grade course; he said “The students we visited have hardly anything, but they work so hard and do so well at school. I’ve got even less reason not to value the chances to study that my parents have given me. I want to study harder myself and repay my Mum and Dad.”
  • 18. 16 Guizhou and Yunnan are key districts for the scholarship projects. From November 7th to 24th 2015, the Jinde scholarship department provided scholarships for girl students and primary school students in Anshun , Anlong, Duyun, Dushan, Libo, Sandu, Zhaotong and other places, the scholarships totaling 243,300 Yuan. Shao Bicheng is a new student in 3rd high school of Qiaojia county, Yunnan province. The transport situation is so bad that after the class it may take 2-3 hours to go home. She is an adopted child and living in a single parent family. Her father is mute and deaf, so she was raised by her grandmother. Now her grandmother is elderly and in poor health. Since the soil is barren, her father could only live by planting potatoes. Every time she went home she always helped her father to do housework and farm work. “When I was a little girl I always thought, What can I do to get to junior school? What can I do to get to high school? ...so many problems haunted me. When I was in junior school I realized that our country could give subsidies. I finished junior school with this help. But when it was time for high school, I was still worried because high school education does not count as compulsory education. I often thought I would have to give up my education. But I am fortunate because you came to help me with this sponsorship, so I can bravely carry on with my dream. It’s you who have you given me my confidence back and given me help and encouragement. Later on I want to pay this back to society and pass on love to people to come.” Bicheng is a strong and diligent girl , we hope that with the help of the donors she will go far.
  • 19. 17 Care for the Elderly In 2015 the department of care for the elderly helped 20 charity groups, and directly sponsored 21 elderly people living alone. In addition to this, we actively developed activities, training and fundraising programs for elderly people. What is most welcome - activities for senior citizens’ health “Senior Citizen’s Health-Care Activities” are activities for the elderly people living alone in rural areas. In 2015, such activities were held in Xingtai, Cangzhou, Handan and other villages once per month. Over the year 6,400 people attended. The “Senior Citizen’s Health-Care Activities” combine talks on health, free blood-sugar and blood pressure examinations and counseling, excursions and group birthday parties etc for the elderly people. They enrich the life of the senior citizens, and make them more healthy, confident and happy. The Senior citizens are keen to learn, and pay great attention to the talks. They said “the class is very good. The themes are relevant to our life, it is very important.” Knowledge abut coronary heart disease, the prevention and treatment of high- blood pressure, the prevention of seasonal illnesses, dental hygiene.... Knowing about these things helps elderly people to change their ideas and avoid unhealthy habits, they become healthier. Summary of Work in the Year 2015
  • 20. 18 Summary of Work in the Year 2015 Old friends share their thoughts 1 2 An elderly person in Pancun said to the parish priest: “Since my husband died, I used to feel terribly lonely when I looked at his empty seat. I missed him and was unwilling to go into the room where we used to live. After these activities my mind changed. When I go home, I think about the doctors’ classes, the sisters’ activities, I get more relaxed, and I feel I can manage to live on my own.” Grandma Li in Xizhongyin village suffered a sudden stroke when she was less than 60 years old. After treatment, her left leg and left hand were paralyzed; she could only walk with a stick and did the housework with one hand. “I felt incompetent that I could not help my husband in the fields or hug my little grandson, and the daily medicine cost money.” Grandma Li sighed and frowned all the time. But after the activities her smile began to reappear; her left hand could do a series of moves and gradually became stronger. Now she keeps going with the activities every month, following the doctor’s advice, changing her habits and learning to take care of herself. Now Grandma Li feels very happy although her left hand and left leg are not completely recovered. She has accepted the paralysis, and says: ”Sadness is useless, I keep on praying and living actively, to pass my smile on to other old people, and life also becomes full of hope.” Training activities - improving quality of service and Internet Connection 1.Hospital pastoral work and palliative care conference: From October 9th to 10th, 80 people from 50 different organizations and congregations joined a conference about the idea and practice of palliative care and hospice care, exploration of one’s own wounds, the healing of the story of one’s losses and accompaniment of people in depression. The training enabled the participants to learn about the practice of palliative care, arousing great interest. 2.Self-care workshop and annual meeting on care of the elderly From December 14th to 17th, 26 organizations involved in care for the elderly, comprising 55 people from Fujian, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan and Hebei, joined the workshop and annual meeting. 15 of them

Since participants face tiredness and pressure and the emotion from the death of old people for whom they work, the content of workshop included paying attention to signs of stress and dealing with emotion and pressure. The workshop also included lectures and exercises, which made the content easy to learn and practice. Mid-Autumn Festival From September 18th to 27th , we raised 8,000 Yuan through an on-line campaign for 324 elderly people and 44 families in poverty to provide things necessary for the mid-autumn festival: moon cakes, eggs, oil, meat and fruit. And the Saint Teresa community bought fish to elderly people living alone, according to local custom, and offered warm pillows to residents of Mianyang Ivy rest home in Sichuan, where there is no central heating in winter. Double Ninth Festival Appeal We launched an appeal to give a meal, cotton hats and socks to 500 elderly people living alone. At the same time the volunteers who served the elderly people also experienced support and warmth, which helped them to serve more eagerly. The Smile Collection In order to show the charisma of older people, and to promote the spirit of respect and care for the elderly, we launched a “Smile Collection” to collect photos of old people with smiles. The activity soon got a good response and 25 organizations offered 130 photos depicting the smiles of old people with new year’s wishes. The “Teeth With Love” project: On December 20th, 2014 the Christmas party launched the “Teeth With Love” project. On the following day, 4 residents in the Jinde Rest Home appeared with new teeth, which signaled the start of the project. After this, nearly 60 elderly people in Hebei, Shanxi, Chongqing had dentures fitted. Since the procedure is complex, some of the people are still in the process of the installment.
  • 22. 20 HIV Prevention “Preventing HIV, accepting HIV, caring about HIV” is Jinde’s main direction in this domain. From 2002 the department of HIV-prevention began to serve 100 HIV families, giving them sincere practical and psychological accompaniment. We have already become their trustworthy friends. As homosexual lifestyles become more widespread, and the age of infected people becomes lower, Jinde offered group training to provide medical knowledge and psychological counseling; in addition to financial support for them to continue to study, we held a series of youth activities, to help them grow healthily and happily; the department of AIDS prevention also frequently welcomes infected people, visits patients and has a telephone counseling helpline. As a catholic-based NGO, our AIDS-prevention department is exploring directions of how, from the perspective of faith, to care about and to support people infected by HIV. From August 15th to 20th, Jinde Charities led 10 children from families affected by HIV to join the activity named “Love Under The Sun - 2015 Summer Camp” which was organized by the China STD & AIDS Prevention Association and the Chinese Health Education Center. On August 18th, the children joined with Peng Liyuan, Yao Ming, Jang Wenli, Pu Cunxin, Ju Ping , Shen Na and other celebrities in vocal performances, basketball, and other games. This year is the second year for Jinde AIDS Prevention Department to bring children to join the activity. Peng Liyuan still remembers Little Meng - the child who joined the summer camp last year. After appreciating the children’s song “Let us row the oars”, Peng Liyuan talked to Little Meng and encouraged the children to study hard, and develop a good character. The country is always paying attention to their growth and health. The climax of the session was the basketball game: the celebrity team led by Pu Cunxin challenged the professional team led by Yao Ming. Peng Liyuan announced the beginning of the match; 10 children of Jinde were teammates of Yao Ming. Two of them working as a pair wedged the ball between their bellies and passed it to Yao Ming! At the end of the game, when Yao Ming lifted up Xiao Yi to do the “slam dunk”, Xiao Yi almost burst with excitement.
  • 23. 21 At the end, all the young people expressed their attitude: we will be stronger and be independent to return to society. Children of HIV-infected families living in rural areas easily suffer self-contempt because of their limited horizons and educational environment. Through these sessions the children broaden their horizon, get more relaxed and improve their knowledge, as well as experiencing loving care from country and society. On June 21st Jinde Charities joined the International Food Festival in Xuanwumen Church in Beijing. The theme of the festival was to pay attention to HIV-infected families. The AIDS Prevention Department brought shoes, handbags, bed sheets and root carvings made by families affected by HIV. At the English language mass that day, Fr. Zhen Xuebin specially played a VCR of children from HIV-affected families. Xuanwumen Church donated the collection from the English Mass and the income of the festival to Jinde Charities, in order to support HIV-affected families and children. Every year we frequently introduce professional counselors to hold health lectures for people infected by HIV. Summary of Work in the Year 2015
  • 24. 22 Summary of Work in the Year 2015 In the process of accompanying AIDS-affected families, we encourage them to develop hobbies and produce craftwork which can increase their income and improve their quality of life. The number of HIV-infections increases every year; their age becomes younger, and HIV is silently making its way into campuses, so improving people’s knowledge of HIV is important. In 2015 the AIDS Prevention Department of Jinde and the Social Service Centers of Xi’an, Lanzhou, Taiyuan, Handan dioceses and Francis Xavier Volunteers undertook an activity called “Speak out and act about AIDS, Forward to Zero HIV”. This was a large-scale awareness activity, focusing on helping young people learn about HIV prevention.
  • 25. 23 Volunteer Training Love needs dedication, love even more needs passing on. In order to help young Catholics realize the value of life through social service and life experience, to live the love that Jesus gave us, and to cultivate the spirit of serving others and society, in 2010 Jinde launched the “Matteo Ricci Volunteer Program”. In 2015, we recruited the 6th group of 23 Matteo Ricci Volunteers; in the end 18 young people went to charity organizations, training organizations and HIV centers, rest homes and homes for disabled infants for full-time service with the spirit of dedication, justice, simplicity and teamwork with a view to sharing love. An invitation from the Heavenly Father brought me into a strange city with strange people and even a new lifestyle. I took the train with curiosity but with a peaceful heart to go on an unknown journey, expecting whatever kind of life the Lord would give me. Time flies: I have already spent two months here (at Biancun Disabled Infants’ Home). I have got used to being here and the strangers have become familiar to me. There is a person who I have got to know whose name is called Dagang. That name [“Great Steel”] impressed me from the first. Now I have become like his elder brother and he is my younger brother; I am his teacher, he is my student; I am his bodyguard, his is my “boss”. He’s always playing unconscious jokes on me to make me happy, and I’ve been influenced by his naughtiness. From the first I had the impression he was both innocent and clever. And now I’ve seen his impetuous and strong heart. He is eager to study: I have taught him astronomy and geography, history and bible; he has patiently accepted my inexperienced methods. He’s delightful all the time, whether were chatting, having an exam, eating, whether the situation is serious or relaxed. I know from talking with him he is always thinking of his parents and other sisters; he is always talking to me about the goodness of his parents and aunts, how they love him and how much he is thinking of them. From this way I know Dagang is a really affectionate person. Dagang and me are brothers made by God! I realized after a while the all the previous volunteers had been girls, and it was a bit inconvenient for them to look after Dagang, there should be a boy to look after him. I deeply felt that it is not me who chose to be there, but that God chose me to finish his plan. Author of his article : Wu Zhiwen , 22 years old, who is the only child of his family. He is from Shanghai, and joined the 6th group of Matteo Ricci volunteers. He is now serving the Liming Family in Hebei. Dagang and Me

  • 27. 25 Charity Promotion “Celebrity Forum” 2015 The “Celebrity Forum” began in 2013, and up to now has been successfully held 3 times. We invited famous author and scholar Professor Li Jiatong, and senior trainer Hei Youlong and other distinguished scholars and entrepreneurs to share their experience and optimistic attitude toward life. On May 16th, 2015, the “celebrity forum” was held in Beijing; the political and commercial leader and well-known scholar Ou Jinde was invited to give a talk on the theme “The Success and Responsibility of an Entrepreneur”, which attracted 230 people from business, charity and academia. Mr. Ou Jinde used his rich experience as Deputy Mayor of Taipei and chairman of the Taiwan High- Speed Rail Company to show his “people-oriented” management philosophy. ”To run a company you must share your vision with your staff, because your clients come to know your company on these basic levels.” ”As administrators, we should respect every staff member, and pay them full attention when they feel grieved about any aspect of their work.” Mr Ou is a very successful man, but remains humble, and this moved everyone present at the occasion. “Jesus told us we should be the salt of the earth, to live out the faith not only by using the tongue, but by executing our work with a consecrated spirit, based on truth and justice, and to make progress with love.... Salt needs to be dissolved so that it can function, and we should be like salt to dissolve ourselves with humility into the groups we belong to.” Mr. Ou especially pointed out that the responsibility of the entrepreneur is to use their experience and ability in concrete dealings to spread love to families, societies and countries and even the whole world. The “Celebrity Forum” also included a face-to-face interactive session for the participants and celebrities. Participants were eager to ask questions about how to deal with crises, about shaping corporate culture and even private family work problems, and Mr Ou was happy to respond to them. Some non-Catholics joined this activity: one of them, a participant from Beijing, said: “I have been looking for positive energy to guide my life. At a point when I felt really confused I saw the info from WeChat and so I came. I was inspired and moved by this program, and I will continue to participate in this activity in the future.” Summary of Work in the Year 2015
  • 28. 26 Summary of Work in the Year 2015 The musical drama ”Streetlight“ was performed in Beijing to spread the spirit of love and charity. On July 18th , Jinde associated with an Italian band named GEN ROSSO, giving a show called ”Streetlight“ in a Beijing theater. The members of GEN ROSSO live a consecrated community life in a spirit of charity, with the principles of providing assistance to vulnerable people regardless of race, gender or community. Their principles exactly match our organization, and this show not only helped the program for female high school students in poverty, but spread charity and universal love to society through drama as well. ”Streetlight“ was composed in 2000; it is a rock-and-roll musical drama of two scenes adapted from a true story about the value of life and its real meaning. In spite of the emphasis on performance, the drama also involved interaction with audience. In one of the scenes, the artists of GEN ROSSO led young people to dance on stage. Before the performance the young people were trained by the international art director. “It was a great experience!” one of the girls said with excitement. Ticket-booking was online, and many young people were attracted. ”This is the first time for me to see a musical drama. The story was very attractive, and almost every song was a classic. What surprised me most was that just four people could sing such beautiful harmony. Brilliant!” This was how an on-line friend expressed his admiration after the show. Sisters’ Run 2015 is the seventh year for the “Sisters’ Marathon”. 26 events raised 460,000 Yuan which benefited more than 1,000 people. Sisters courageously appealed for vulnerable people in society and gained great support. The “Sisters’ Run” was launched in Beijing, Tianjin, Helong, and Taiyuan; the number of participants was over 300 people. The Jinde webpage featuring the “Sisters’ Run” received over 20,000 hits per day. Sisters also joined the work of administration and organization. The biggest site was in Beijing, organized by sisters from St Joseph’s convent in 9 月 20 日北京国际马拉松
  • 29. 27 Beijing Diocese. Looking back over the experience of the development of “Sisters’ Run”, it has been a process of three steps. 2009-2011 was the stage of propagation of the idea, as sisters needed to go out from their communities to realize this new method of fund- raising; they relied on the Foundation for funding the organization. From 2012-2013, the sisters were able to raise 40%- 60% of the amount themselves, and learned to use network communication and social networking services; 2014-2015 (including 2016) is the period when the sisters have raised all funds by themselves, even doing the program-administration: all the events use WeChat for appeals and they have promoted their programs via off-line activities to raise money. Sept 20th Beijing International Marathon Sept 13th Tianjin International Marathon Sept 5th Helong International Marathon After signing an agreement with the Beijing Marathon, the “Sisters’ Run” became much better known among running enthusiasts; this year, with the participation of runners from the Beijing Marathon, half of the “sisters’ run” participants were actually volunteers from society. Wang Feng and Peng Dazhi , who joined the marathon before, stayed in contact with us and supported the sisters’ charity program; Wang Feng also appealed for funds on a Social Networking Service after the marathon, raising 2,400 Yuan.

Jigen of Handan diocese said that he had participated in many Christmas parties organized by Jinde in Shijiazhuang with a lot of lay people, but many brothers and sisters could not travel so far to join in. He said: ”Jinde suggested to us to launch such activities ourselves, motivating more people to experience charity and bringing more people to join. This year has been a good beginning: we must be sure to keep holding such meaningful activities again next year and the year after!”
