1. Task 6
Client needs
The client has informed me that they want a 30-60 second advert to sponsor a fizzy/energy Drink
Company called ‘Fizzy Drink Inc.’. The advert is going to be in this time plan and is going to have a
logo of my personal design. I have also been asked to do all of the technical work behind the advert
before it is actually executed. This includes the client brief, logo design, legal and ethical
considerations, copyright and clearances and a budget plan to record the money spent on
equipment hiring and staff wages for the media production.
Platform
The platform for the advert is going to be the internet. The main reason for this is because of the
vast amount of people browsing it every day. This allows me to gain a huge audience in a very short
period of time. It also allows me to do two things. One of these is a test, it allows me to see if the
advert will be popular or not by putting it on the web initially and recording how much feedback and
how many views the advert gets. The second thing is revolving around the global connectivity of the
internet. If the advert becomes successful and popular, it doesn’t take long before it gets bigger or
perhaps viral purely on the basis that people can spread the word and send it to other people via
social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter as well as E-mails.
File format
The file format that I will be using to make the drink advert with is an MOV file. MOV is the default
file type for the QuickTime movie player. There are several other file types which could be used to
save the advert with, examples of these are; Windows media video (WMV) and FLV files. WMV was
originally designed for internet streaming applications as a competitor to RealVideo. This is a bog-
standard movie file format and one of the basic, default ones to use when no other programs /
media players are available. FLV is the container file format for Adobe flash player. Flash videos
could also be used as SWF files but FLV is more frequently picked.
Audience
My target audience for my energy drink is going to be teenagers varying anywhere from 13-19 +. The
reason for this is because people in this age group are typically the people who go to the gym often
and have the mind set to live a healthy lifestyle, because of this reason I decided that aiming my
energy drink at these people would be ideal as if is perfect for people that are just coming out or
cooling down from the gym or a work out. The energy drink will provide a stamina boost and an
energy revitalize allowing them to carry on and feel much more energetic whilst they exercise. Not
only this, energy drinks are very popular for people in this age group generally going to the gym or
not. People coming home from school can pick one up from the local shop because usually the look
of the can/bottle draws people in because of the cool and unusual design.
2. Compression
Compression is the process of breaking down a file to make is smaller; the main reason for doing this
is so that the file can be transmitted faster over a slower internet connection or take up less space
on a disk. The way the files do this, is by reducing the overall number of bits and bytes in the file.
When a file is downloaded, the computer instantly uses a program like WinZip or Stuffit to expand
the file back to its original size. This sounds very mysterious but when you realize how it works, the
process makes much more sense. The majority of computer files consist of the same information
listed over and over again for the entirety of the format. Compression gets rid of this redundancy
allowing easy transmission and more disk space after a file is downloaded.
