We replaced the traditional paper labels by an indelible
mark on the fruit skin, and this system has lots of
advantages!
First, it’s environmentally friendly and it’s cheap,
because it eliminates the use of paper, inks, glue, and
only uses light. That’s why it was developed with the
support of the eco-innovation program of the European
Union.
On top of that, it’s a very flexible system, because you
can mark whatever you want, whenever you want.

When looking for the next generation in innovative
labeling solutions for fresh produce, the Laser Mark
labeling system is the leading technology in the
industry. A cost-effective and eco-friendly
alternative to traditional fresh produce labels, JBT
Corporation and Laser Food are looking to the
future.
Originally developed in Spain and commercialized in
2013, laser labeling uses EU approved compounds that
do not damage the fruit surface or interior. This
revolutionary technology is currently available for
melons, pomegranates, and citrus in non-US markets.
With a focus on sustainability, the Laser Mark system is
a past recipient of the EU's Eco Innovation Programme
grant.
What sets the Laser Mark unit apart from traditional
labeling is the customizable, on-the-spot graphic
capabilities. The system allows for easy upload and
storage of vector graphics, providing the user with
maximum flexibility in meeting market requirements.
Integrated into existing packlines or used off-line, the
unalterable laser mark protects brand identity and
differentiates your produce from the competition in the
retail environment.
At the beginning, you don’t notice anything on the skin,
because the mark we make is so faint. But little by little,
in a matter of minutes, the mark becomes visible. How’s
that possible?
That’s quite simple! By shedding light onto the fruit skin,
the cells that receive it retract. A bit like when you’re
sunbathing on the beach. While the other cells that don’t
receive the light remain asleep.
So that you can see the mark, you need something else,
and it’s here where the magical LASERMARK appears:
we spray a contrast liquid on the mark we just made. The
skin cells that received the light, react to the contrast
liquid by changing their color. The color of the other
cells, that did not receive the light, does not change.
Now this fruit is not any fruit anymore! It’s a personalized
fruit! With its own identity. With its own brand, and mark
that adds value to the fruit thanks to LASERMARK.

is a simple, rapid, economic and safe
