As part of the networkingteam,Ilearnta lotabouthow the computernetworksworkandhow the
companyusesall itsserversandcomputersto run itsvariousapplicationsandservices.Mostof the
serversare locatedinthe buildingandIthank Etranzact forgivingme the opportunitytoactuallyenter
the serverroomand see formyself howmostof these serversworkedandforwhatapplications.Iwas
alsointroducedtothe ideaof IP addressesandeachserverhavingitsownunique address andDNS
addressthat can be accessedfromalmostany computer(aslongasyouhave the right credentialsof
course).IeventhoughtIwas smart and triedtoentersome of the serverswithasuddenrealizationI
was blockedwithnowayof everenteringthatserver(Ihave a lotto learn).
I was assignedtothe teambut because of mylack of technical skillsIhadto spendmostof my time,
shadowing,followingandlearningfromthe variousmembersof the team.Although,Icouldnotreally
understandmostof the time whatexactlythere were doingtoresolve issuesorproblems.Icould
understandthe basicunderlyinglogicthatisinvolvedwhentheywentaboutthe process.Sobasically
eventhoughIwas not reallyable tosolve anyof the problems,Iwasdevelopingproblemsolving
techniqueswhichwill continue tobe useful inall aspectsof engineering andindeedlife asawhole.
I was alsotaughta lotof basicnetworkingskillslike how toterminate acable andaboutwhat makesup
a cable itself.Iwasintroducedtoterminologylike RJ45,Connectors,CAT6 andcrimpingtools.Iwas
reallyproudof myself whenIfinallyterminatedmyfirstcable anditwascorrect because the color
combinationwasquite hardtoremember.Iwantto studyelectrical andelectronicengineeringinthe
universityandIknowmostof this kindof electrical componentsandcircuittopicswill be anunderlying
part of the degree soitis goodto geta headstart inthese concepts.

2. Software EngineeringandAppDevelopment
I was thenintroducedtothe software engineeringteamanditwas alsoa verygood learningexperience.
I personallyhave quiteabitof experience insoftware beforehandbutbecause Ididitas a math’s
course,I wasnot so adeptinhowexactlyyouwouldwrite aprogram to provide paymentsolutions.
Etranzact gave me the opportunitytosee formyself how these programsworkandhow theyare usedin
theirvariousservices.Etranzactisbasicallyamobile paymentssolutioncompanyandmostof itsservices
are basedonthe applicationsthatwere writtenbythe teamthatI was assignedto.
Due to my lack of programmingexperienceIwasnot reallyable tomake a substantial impactonthe
applications.Butduringthe 2 weeks,Iwasable tonot onlylearnaboutthe basisof the business
packagesand see the underlyingcode formyself,Iwasalsogivenacrash course on the programming
language JavawithwhichI hadno previousexposure to.
It was funlearninghowtoprogramagain butthistime frommore of an applicationdevelopmentpoint
of you.Thistime I wasapplyinglogictonotso much to solve mathematical problemsbutactually
everydayproblemsthatwouldstill require youquiteahighlevel of intellectualcapabilityjusttobe able
to understand.Evenfromsome of the most seeminglymundane taskslikewritingsentencesina
particularprogram backwardsrequiredsuchahighlevel of logical reasoningthatIwas almost
exasperatedwhenIcouldnotfigure itout at first.Butthenby doingthisI learnt2 veryimportantskills.
Firstly,Persistence.The persistencetoactuallysitup,openupthe computer,geta penandpaper and
pushthroughthe problemandtryto solve it.It iseasyto see how school workhas helpedme inthis
aspectbecause itis almostthe same thingwhensolvingaphysicsquestionyouhave tobreakthe
problemdownto“firstprinciples”thenitbecomesmucheasiertosolve.Secondly,teamwork.Andthis
isin a verygeneral sense butmore aboutthe realizationthatsometimestosolve some problemsmaybe
not inthisscale but certainlyinalarger one youwill needhelp.Iwasluckyenoughtohave a supervisor
that providedme alot of supportwhenI wasworkingonthe problems.Ialsorealizedthe importance of
online programmingsocial networkslike RedditandQuora.
I was alsointroducedtothe programsand was able towork quite a bit onthe heritage bankandroid
applicationwhichwasstill underdevelopment.Iwasable tosee how issueswere resolvedandhow
variousaspectsof the code,GUI and the variousAPK’swere all comingtogethertocreate thisapp. I was
givinganassignmentwiththe JSON formatinwhichIhelpedwithsome of the graphicsthatwere used
inthe graphicuserinterface.
I thoroughlyenjoyedmytime insoftware andhopefullyasanEngineerandmostespeciallyanelectrical
engineerspecializinginsoftware.Thisexperience will provetobe an integral partinmy development.

3. BusinessDevelopment
My final move wastothe Businessdevelopmentteamandspentmostof my time beingputthrough
whateach functional departmentdoesandhow theyworkwithvarious clienteles topushthe business
forwardand getcompensation.Thiswasaverydifferentperspective forme because comingfromthe
technologydepartment itwasmore aboutthe programmingandcreatingthe solutionswhereasinthe
businessdepartmentitwas more aboutgettingthese solutionstocustomersandgettingcompensation
fromit. It wasinvaluable experience andlearningandIgot to workin mostof the solutionsthat
eTranzact provides.Iwasinmobile banking,remittance,Pointof ServicesandPayOutlet.Eachof these
gave me a more real life viewof the actual businessthateTranzactprovidesanditwasreallyfuntalking
to variouscustomersandlearningaboutprojects.
In mobile bankingIlearntabouthoweTranzact makesthe mobile bankingsoftware platformforalotof
the biggestbanksinNigeria.Itwasquite interestingtolearnhow the companyworkswiththe banksto
create the product and thencreate a switchthrougheTranzact touse the application.Itwasalsovery
cool that the app I helpedworkonforHeritage bankwas now the one I workedon againat mobile
bankingandwas able totake a lookat how it got deployedandreleasedintothe general public.Also
gettingtosee howhard it actuallyisandthe problemsthatcan alsosometimesbe involved.
In Remittance Ilearntaboutthe whole internationalfundtransferprocessandhow itactuallyworks
througha debitand creditscheme.Ialsolearntaboutwhatgoeson duringthe processand discovered
howthisservice isveryclientbased.Forremittance tosucceedyouhave tohave clientsthatare
conductinglotsof transactionssince the compensationismade pertransaction.Soclientshave to
maintaina highlevel of transactiontrafficinorderforeTranzactto breakeven.
The last thingI will talkaboutisPayOutlet.Payoutletisbasicallythe waythatmostuniversitiesof
