8. IABT Junior Club Members
Members of IABT Junior Club taken a pic
and ready to
lead PART 1: Education Workshop on the
topic of overcoming
Childhood obesity through multi-disciplined
sports
With the youth of Baltimore City Recreations
&
Parks Summer Program at Garden
Recreation Center.
9. Although they prepared
all summer on public
speaking, writing and
understanding the topic
from their own
perspective during the
introduction they were
still nervous. Some more
than others.
Nevertheless, they made
it through.
10. Part 1: Education Workshop
As a part of our educational program, we
invited Another organization to join in whose
focus remains on creative writing and creative
expression. She worked
with the Junior Club Members on creative
writing all summer and then assisted in helping
the audience members to open
up about topics such as obesity, peer pressure,
bullying, etc. What is most
Important about this portion of the education
workshop is that the youth & adults were
provided strategies to assist in their concerns
they could apply right away.
Creative Writing Expert
11. Creative Writing Expert
Audience members
were engaged in the
topic and discussion of
overcoming childhood
obesity
(pros, cons, etc).
12. Creative Writing Expert
Participants engaged in a creative
expression exercise where they learn
strategies on how to deal with peer
pressure of obesity, peer pressure,
bullying, lack of self esteem, self
confidence, self awareness, etc.
It was a great moment to see the
youth and adults to think through
the process and to realize they
always had the answer of knowing
who to do and who to talk to in
negative cases.
13. Peer Leadership
IABT’s Junior Club Members explaining their
Experience of engaging in multi-disciplined
Sports. Club Members experiences vary from
Newbie’s to veterans of 2-3 years.
Multi-disciplined sports are triathlons and
duathlons. Club Members are sharing their
training experience, leadership experience,
their support of one another, their strengths and
their weaknesses, etc. Despite all they learn
much about self and during training and events,
there isn’t a focus on race, religion, race, etc
but more on individuality with support of their
team along the way.
14. Peer Leadership

31. Indoor Duathlon Relay
Duathlons are an example of
Multi-disciplined sports. Normally
Duathlons are held outside however
Due to heat index that day, the event had
to be inside. Duathlons are run, bike, run
events. Two disciplines in one event. ……
Youth & Staff were formed in teams of 2
to 3 persons. They had to work together
using team work, effective
communication, critical thinking, etc
attributes for success.
32. Teams were mixed with males
and females, adult and youth.
The youth were excited to take
part in the event with one
another and especially their
Summer Staff Members.
Youth were placed on teams
regardless of height, size,
athletic-ability level,
geographic background,
socio-economic status, grade
level, etc.
Indoor Duathlon Relay
34. Peer Leadership
Members of the Junior
Club Programs are
seasoned on someone
handing them their medals
at the end
Of events however this
was their first time actually
handing medals to
finishers at an event. This
was an exciting moment
for them.
35. Peer Leadership
The mazing part for these Junior Club
Members remains the fact they had just
competed in their 1st USAT Youth*Junior
National Championships in West
Chester, OH. They were also wearing
their Championship Finishers Medals
and USAT gear to increase awareness to
the participants of the opportunities
that exist through multi-disciplined
sports. Opportunities such as
scholarship, college, the Olympics, etc.
36. Peer Leadership
The moment the youth
(participants and peer
leaders were waiting
for. After the Duathlon
Relay was over,
the participants (youth
and adults) patiently
awaited the medal
ceremony. They
deserved it.

a universal langue spoken
by all regardless of……
42. Program Completion
Each youth that took part
in
Both parts of the program
Part 1: Education
Workshop
Part 2: Multi-Sport Event
Received a Certificate of
Recognition that
demonstrated
the training they took
part in through our
organization.
47. Peer Leadership
We wanted to give them the
full experience of the event, so
we made sure they received
their Swag Bags and post race
food. This is the highlight of the
experience for participants after
engaging in a multi-disciplined
sport.
48. Peer Leadership
Youth in the summer program was
not use to someone highlighting
and spotlighting
their accomplishments. While they
had achieved their goal,
They were now being exposed to
being take care of versus taking care
of someone else.
Additionally, the Junior Club
Members were in the position of
making someone feel happy as
People do for them in events. It was
all around great experience.
49. Even the boys in the group had to
humble themselves and cooperated after
a great event.
This program had a positive impact on
the males in the group as well as females.
Engaging in more than one discipline in
any single event was not as easy as they
had thought but now the seed has been
planted.

experiences to share with one another
mainly because they have all
experienced a new healthy way of
movement and living through multi-
disciplined sports.
This remains the beauty of

Staff at the end of the
program. They were
happy! We were happy!
The youth were happy!
55. Individual Leadership Emerged
This young lady was not as receptive
during the event as she could have
been however by the end she was all
hands on deck assisting in the clean up,
pack up, etc without being asked.
For some reason in the beginning she
had a barrier blocking her success
however some where along the way,
her mindset changed. We were
introducing her to a concept and
movement she was not use to.

PROGRAM GRADUATES
61. HIS STORY
This young man shared with me during the educational workshop
how he was being bullied and not liked at school or even during
the summer program. Attempts were made to identify role
models within their setting for everyone. For him particularly the
person he chose was being mean to him. I gave him my card and
told him I would see him again however he could call me at any
time.
A few weeks lapsed in between Part 1 and Part 2 of the program.
However when I saw him during the Part 2, his situation had not
changed. Not deliberately he was placed on the team with the
young man, he favored but did not favor him. Despite the past,
they worked together as a team during the event. The other
young made gave him a hug at the end. It made his day. What
made his day more was the receiving of his 1st medal in his life as
he is not in a situation to play sports of be a part of a team.
He was introduced to a program that educated him on how to
overcoming childhood obesity such as good eating habits,
strategies to overcome bullying and peer pressure but also ways
to contribute to a healthy lifestyle. As a result, his self confidence,
self esteem, and self awareness increase. We accomplished our
mission, goal and program objectives as an organization.
62. Program Objectives Successfully Met
The objectives of the program were to
Introduce Youth to multi-disciplined sports
Encourage youth to become and stay active
Motivate youth to live a healthier lifestyle
