Safety In The Workplace Essay
The global Marketplace is immense and requires fortitude and tolerance to be prolific. Human Resource Managers need to be aware of the risks that
may endanger employee safety and well–being, whether it is a home–country national strategy or a host–country national strategy. You must weigh the
risk and reward daily. You will need to create updated policies as well as training to alleviate workplace violence and safety hazards alike. (Dias, 2011)
There are many issues that can arise at a moment's notice and your job is to prepare for any issue that may ascend. Sure, there is no such thing as a
100% success rate in dealing with the many complex issues in the workplace, yet you can be 100% prepared for any issues that can derail your

pulmonary fibrosis that will eventually take his life from him. The oak barrel company needs to invest in the safety of its employees by
purchasing better quality equipment for their safety. Once the investment is made you must make sure that the employees are trained in the proper
use of such equipment. In all reality, companies have a duty to ensure the safety of its employees. Most of the time issues occur due to negligence
caused by expenses. It doesn't pay to be frugal when it comes to safety. There are many risks in the workplace in these risks can be avoided. Health
issues can be addressed and, yet they will still happen. Let's say that a company stores hazardous materials that can cause injury or death to an
employee if there are no safety measures to alert the employees to dangerous leaks of hazardous liquids or gases. than the employee can become sick
from the leaks or perish from the leaks. In any situation it can be easily thwarted through training, updating equipment, and following safety procedures
and policies. It may cost a great deal to implement a

Health And Safety Of The Workplace
Health and safety in the workplace are both important topics that need to be incorporated in the workplace environment so that all parties involved in
a company are protected and secure. There are many objectives that have been discussed in this class that are essential to an employee's general health
and overall safety while performing job tasks and responsibilities. The following objectives have been chosen from one particular week of discussion,
and they will be discussed in more detail. These objections include: assess when to investigate, what to investigate, and who should investigate accident
investigations; describe workplace stress, its causes, and human reactions that may occur; describe preliminary and detailed hazard analysis; define
workplace ethics and explain the guidelines for determining ethical behavior; and finally, identify workplace violence reduction strategies and explain
them. From week 4 of our assignments, we learned about accident investigations. Accidents need to be investigated as soon as everyone involved in
the accident is under control and cared for as needed. According to our text on page 163, "waiting too long to complete an investigation can harm the
results." (Goetsch, 2015) Facts may become distorted if one waits too long to begin an investigation. All accidents need to be investigated, no matter
how large or small. The main reason that investigations are conducted is to collect facts, rather than find blame. Investigators

Stress in the Workplace Essay
Stress in the workplace
Stress in the workplace has become one of the increasingly popular topics of discussion over the last couple of decades. It has become a major concern
among various organizations creating an impact on the management and operations of the organization. This paper will give a detailed definition of what
stress in the workplace is and the most common causes of stress amongst both employers and employees. In the midst of investigating the causes of
stress, I will give an outline of what can be done to manage the stress by not only the individual but also by the employers themselves.
I will also mention the effects of stress to an individual, which can be categorized as short–term effects both psychological and...show more content...
In the United States, the American Institute of Stress (AIS) has estimated that 40% of the worker turnover is due to stress and the cost of stress in
the workplace has been estimated to be over $300 billion per year. However, the ability of employers to lower the rate of stress in the workplace has
shown to improve the employee's quality of work and their health (Lee 36).
Causes of stress in the workplace
There are a variety of different causes of stress in the workplace and an ability to identify these as an employer is important because it will help in
knowing how to deal with and correct any problems arising from it. Most of the stresses are caused when the demands at work become extreme or
excessive. Many of these demands are a direct result of technological advances that have made work processes easier but on the other hand, require
employees to do more tasks. Current technology demands the workers to constantly perform near peak levels, be competitive and be cognizant of
technological breakthroughs. In some circumstances, the organization fails to inform the workers about changes in the business or the technology they
are using in their systems which can cause tension and uncertainty. Because of this, the worker can feel a constant fear of losing their position if they
do not work efficiently and understand the new changes in the organization.
Another cause of stress is a change in the workplace environment. As an

Importance Of Safety In The Workplace
The organizations and the employers are responsible for providing a safe workplace for their employees. There are a lot of people particularly
women when they apply for a job or want to see one, they prefer the safety of the workplace. This term is very wide as it is not restricted to having
guards outside the organizations. A lot of employers and organizations needs to be aware that there is a lot more to providingsafety at the workplace. It
means that employee feels secure working in an environment where he can express his thoughts and ideas without losing his job. An important
aspect in promoting safety at workplace includes adding a certain clause in the agreements as well so when a person signs that agreement at the
time of getting that job he/she knows that they will be working in a secure environment at the workplace. There are certain employers who do not
realize how important it is to promote a safe working environment for their employees and have structural constraints in their organization which
makes it more difficult for any employ to report an issue (Gray). There are certain jobs that require real hard work and they have to work under
critical circumstances. More than 1 million companies today are providing employees with all the safety gadgets they need in order to protect
themselves at work. But there are half a million companies who are not aware of the significance and because of the employer's lack of knowledge,
the employees suffer from injuries or

Workplace Safety : Safety And Safety
Organizational Safety Program Safety in the workplace has become a major focus on many organizations due to many accidents and deaths. When
employees enter their place of work they expect to work in a safe environment in which they can work with our anything to worry about. As it is
known that some workplaces are safer than others. Workplace safety is a priority in for most workplaces that is why employers care about
employee's safety. Workplace safety is a kind of management responsibility in places of employment that includes health and safety of workers. In
order to provide workers with safety and health, managers focus on safety that can include such elements as: management leadership and obligation;
worker involving accountability; ensuring the work is carried out safely and effectively; different safety plans, programs and policies, processes,
procedures, and practices; safety inspections for workplace hazards; safety goals, objectives and program audits; safety tracking and metrics;
identification of hazards and control; safety education, training and communications. Talking about workplace safety, it is necessary to mention health
and safety hazards. According to definition of Rajagopal J., "a 'hazard' is something that in itself may cause harm or injury." (Rajagopal,
2009).Workplace hazards include moving parts of machinery, flammable or toxic substances and lifting heavy things. Also hazards can be included in

Health And Safety At The Workplace
Health and safety in the workplace
Workplace safety is a major issue faced by nurses in healthcare settings. It is said that, hospitals are hazardous workplaces; unsafe workplaces are
dangerous for the patients too. Today, many nurses are suffering hospital violence, heavy workloads causing serious injuries, contracting diseases
caused by exposures to certain diseases, antineoplastics, and certain health care toxins, that workers bring home to their families. This in turn leads to
acute staff shortages. Ample supply of nurses is very important in providing safe and timely care to the patient population. Maintaining a healthy
workplace will enable the healthcare systems to control costs associated with healthcare management as well as enhancing the productivity of nurses in
health care. It is estimated that creating a healthy environment in the workplace not only benefit nurses, but also benefits patients and other members of
the health care team. This report explains some of the safety issues existing in health care, which directly or indirectly affects nurses as well as the
health of the Canadian population.
Background Research
A study conducted on the Canadian workforce by OHSAH (2004) indicated that nurses are prone to more workplace injuries than any other
occupational group. The study revealed that injury rates vary significantly by health care settings and occupation. Among the 3 categories of workers in
the study (registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and care

Workplace Safety BUS642: Business Research & Method Tools Instructor: Janice Johnson April 16, 2012 In order for a workplace to be a productive
and welcoming environment, safety must be a priority. The overall plan and execution of safety measures ensure that the staff or workers will be
well–prepared and have peace of mind on a daily basis. The best way to handle any bad situation is to properly evaluate the steps and think about
scenarios ahead of time. In order to improve safety in a work environment, the company must analyze the location, availability, and knowledge of the
workers in regard to safety equipment, evacuation plans, and emergency medical situations. (Johnson) Holding regular meetings and training sessions

Any program made for the purpose of improving safety and health in the workplace should be concerned with promoting and rewarding safe
practices at work, eliminating fatalities at work, and reducing injuries and illnesses at work. On a continuous basis, measuring performance and
keeping a record of your safety and health program is a good technique to ensure that targets are met daily. Likewise, it's equally necessary to have a
systematic evaluation on the compliance of procedures, regulations, and standards; an analysis on the causes of injuries and accidents; and finding out
any deficiencies and correcting them. Ensuring employee safety in the work place has immeasurable benefits to an organization. The first thing that
some companies can do is to complete an employee survey. This help in several respects: employees give feedback about the work environment and
point out areas where safety concerns existed, and it gives them a useful way to help make sure that a similar accident would not happen again. Once
the survey was finished, a memo could be circulated to remind employees that their reports of any safety concern at any time were most welcome and
appreciated. (Greenberg) With an employee survey their maybe risks that management may have overlooked that the employees have noticed.

Safety for Electrical System Workers Essay
"Electrical Safety is not an option – it is absolutely necessary for workers and employers alike".
Safety in the workplace is job number one for employer and employee alike. It is especially important for those who install and service electrical
systems. Nothing can replace a worker or loved one that has died or suffered the irreparable consequences of an electrical accident. No matter how
much an employer tries to safeguard its workers or how much safety training is provided; the ultimate responsibility lies with the worker. The human
factor is part of every accident or injury. The purpose of this paper is to identify electrical safety hazards and present ways to minimize or avoid their
consequences. It is a guide for improving electrical...show more content...
This act and relevant rules impose several safety requirements as electricity supply undertakings/ manufacturers/ contractors/ and users. They are
mandatory for every manufacturers, contractors, and users of electrical installation equipment's and electricity supply undertakings.
Investigation of electrical accidents reveal that at least every accident from small shock to a major fire disaster is caused by ignorance
/ inexperience or carelessness at one or more stages and failure of safety management. Why is Electrical Safety so Important? Electrical hazards
have always been recognized, yet serious injuries, deaths, and property damage occur daily. Organizations like the US Department of Labor and the
National Safety Council compile statistics and facts on a regular basis. The following table demonstrates the importance of electrical safety. 97% of
all electricians have been shocked or injured on the job. Approximately 30,000 workers receive electrical shocks yearly. Over 3600 disabling electrical
contact injuries occur annually. Electrocutions are the 4th leading cause of traumatic occupational fatalities. Over 2000 workers are sent to burn centers
each year with severe Arc–Flash burns. Estimates show that 10 Arc–Flash incidents occur every day in the US. 60% of workplace accident deaths are
caused by burn injuries. Over 1000 electrical workers die each year from workplace accidents.

Reflection On Health And Safety
Reflective questions for Module 4: Workplace Health and Safety
1)Before you studied this module, what did you think would be involved in managing workplace health and safety?
Before this module, I thought that to manage workplace health and safety (WH&S) effectively, involved rigorous preventative measures. With this, I
acknowledged the idea of analysis of workplace processes, and an understanding of various job roles to be important to managing WH&S. Hence, I had
a superficial expectation that prevention and not treatment, was the primary mechanism for addressing WH&S issues; which may not always be the
case. Recognisably, I didn't expect organisational culture that incorporated WH&S, to be a valuable preventative and treatment tool for managing
WH&S.
2)During this module you learned about various forms of risks in workplace health and safety. What happened when you tried to conduct arisk
assessment and develop a hazard management plan for a hazard which could be encountered by a Happy Dogs dog walker? What did you find
challenging?
When completing this task, I found the obvious hazard of being bitten; however, I found it challenging to identify a hazard of being hit by a car. I think
this may due to subconsciously identifying direct hazards, more prominently than indirect. I found that the level of risk to be subjective. Referring to
the hazard of being bitten, I assumed it to be a moderate to high risk. However, if I had been bitten previously, I subconsciously may have increased this
risk to extreme. In managing this hazard, I thought it was difficult to prevent, without offending the customer (muffling). Therefore, a major challenge
for me was to not impact customer perception through a management–plan.
3)Interpret your experience. Why do you think you experienced the challenges that you did? If it was because you did not have something you
needed, explain what you needed and how you would have benefited/ what you would have been able to do differently if you did have it.
I believe that there is one main reason I experienced challenges; that I am not a dog owner. Hence. I needed the experience of being around dogs, and
understanding their nature. With this experience, I think I

Hazards In Health And Safety Workplace Essay
The OHS&W (Occupational Health and Safety Workplace) various types of hazards in the scenario is: Physical Hazard: A chair on the floor and
fragmented glass and Biological Hazard: blood spilt on the floor, the blood splattered on the walls and the officer's blood mixed with the offender's
blood. However, if the scenario was different and the HSR (Health Safety Representative) was in the room while the officers were in the room as well
as the offender. The scenario played out, the other potential hazards in the room would be the offender with the chair as a threat is a physicalhazard.
The officer slipping on the blood is physical hazard but the officer's blood mixing with the offender's blood would be considered a biological hazard
due to potential infections of diseases and health problems could occur. The offender not being restrained can also prove to be a hazard depending on
his behaviour and attitude and would be classified as potential hazard.
The puddle of blood on the floor has a moderate to high likelihood that it would cause an injury or illness. The shattered fragmented glass on the
floor would be a high likelihood to cause injury as it can penetrate the skin. The officer's blood being mixed with the offender's blood would be severe
as the consequences of infection of diseases and health problems.

Safeguarding the not dangerous protection and defense of workers, records, tools and accommodations is a main concern of business proprietors and

Workplace Health and Safety Legislation Essay
The health and safety at work act (1974) puts a responsibility on all employers to provide a safe environment at work for their employees and is
probably the main law regarding health and safety in the work place. It gives employers the responsibility of providing a clean environment to work
in; safety checks on all machinery/equipment, competent trained and supervised staff and the welfare of employees at work. This law has had a
massive impact on sport especially in gyms and health centres as it has provided much safer places of work out, as all machinery/equipment now has
to be checked regularly for faults and all staff has to be fully qualified preventing injuries and saving lives....show more content...
This law has had an impact on all sports that generate large crowds to their grounds/stadiums such as rugby or cricket although its largest effect
would have been on football as it generates more fans than any other sport in this country, when you look at clubs like Arsenal and Man U who
have tens of thousands of people at their games you can see how important it is to provide fire safety when there are so many lives at stake.
Therefore this law has allowed people to go to their teams club and know that if a fire does break out that there has been checks and procedures put
in place to deal with the matter as quickly and effectively as possible. The working time regulations law (1998) regulates the maximum number of
hours worked for all employees. It also states how many breaks should be given and at what length they should be. This law gives employers the
responsibility to ensure that their employees work no more than 48–hours in a seven–day week. Checks will be made to ensure this is happening over a
17–week period. The impact this has had on sport is that it has prevented people from overworking and causing themselves or someone else harm for
instance if a person had worked a 7 day stretch of about 64 hours in a gym as an instructor they would be

The Occupational Safety and Health Act
Just imagine working in an environment where there are very few safety regulations, and little safety equipment. Think of how it was for employees
of a steel manufacturing plant to work where there are almost no safety regulations and safety hazards all around you. This is how the work
environment was before 1970; there were only few laws or regulations that required employers to maintain certain safety standards or working
conditions for employees. However in 1970 President Richard Nixon sought to change all of this by signing into law the Occupational Safety and
Health Act (OSHA). The Occupational Safety and Health Act's mission is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by

OSHA states that any employer that has employees and is in a business affecting commerce (which is most employers) are required to follow
OSHA's requirements. There are two requirements that the act imposes on employers to accomplish a safer workplace. First the employer must
comply with all of the safety and health standards dictated by the department of Labor, this is most often called the "compliance" requirements.
Second, the employer must give each of its employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are
causing or are likely to cause death or physical harm, this is a very broad requirement and is often referred to as the "general duty" clause (Bennett,
Alexander, & Hartman, 2003). This clause if often used in trial by the prosecution and the employer is most often not able to defend against it.
At the time of an inspection the inspector goes to the workplace unannounced to ensure that they are viewing the workplace in the same condition as
the employees. If someone if caught giving advance notice of an inspection they could be fined up to $1000 (Bennett, Alexander, & Hartman, 2003).
During an inspection the inspector will conduct a "walk around" to visually inspect the workplace. At the end of the inspection the inspector will
discuss the violations or potential violations with the company owner, the inspector will also discuss any concerns or give

Workplace Safety In The Workplace
Workplace safety is a big deal. If you don't think so, take a look at the research done by the Occupational Safety and Health Organization
(OSHA).American employers pay out an average of $1 billion per week for workman's compensation fees. Mind you, this doesn't include medical and
legal fees that incur. Staying on top of the safety aspect in your workplace is not only essential because you don't want to see anyone get hurt. It's
essential because it's best for the financial health of your business. When it comes to workplace safety, employee engagement needs to be placed high
on the list of topics to approach. This is the case for a few reasons.
1.Perception
It's often stated that perception is everything. People filter information through the lens of their own perceptions. Whether their perception is healthy
or not, they're bound to look at it through that lens. So, as an employer that's desiring employee engagement, it's important to consider a person's
perception. While you're not responsible for every little detail of why people perceive information the way that they do, you do need to take it into
account. For example, if something happens with a machine breaking down and it's the fault of a particular employee, the initial feelings might be
mixed with anger and frustration. However, it's best to calm down, get collected and face the issue with a cool head. If you get behind the computer
and type an angry email with all caps, the perception is that you're angry,

Drug Abuse On The Workplace Essay
Drug Abuse in the Workplace:
The human resource topic I chose to write my research paper on is "Drug Abuse in the Workplace". Drug abuse in the workplace is something very
common that many of us will encounter at some point. Alcohol and drug abuse has a major effect on employee absence and lost productively that
leaves a negative working environment. It is important a company addresses the right guidelines to keep a drug free workplace. Establishing a clear
and fair substance abuse policy and providing frequent drug testing can help with these issues. Drug abuse has proven to be a result of work related
stress; companies that provide employee awareness training help teach employees how to better manage these issues. Substance Abuse in the
workplace in one of the top concerns in the United States today "Studies show that 73 percent of drug users are employees, costing American
businesses billions of dollars annually in lost production and staffing costs (Walsh)." These are some of the few topics I will be addressing in my
research paper.
In order to understand what effects drugs have on the workplace, you must first understand how drugs affect the human body. "Most abused drugs
directly or indirectly target the brain 's reward system by flooding the circuit with dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter present in regions of the
brain that regulate movement, emotion, cognition, motivation, and feelings of pleasure. When drugs enter the brain, they can

Workplace Safety Hazards And Solutions

  • 1. Safety In The Workplace Essay The global Marketplace is immense and requires fortitude and tolerance to be prolific. Human Resource Managers need to be aware of the risks that may endanger employee safety and well–being, whether it is a home–country national strategy or a host–country national strategy. You must weigh the risk and reward daily. You will need to create updated policies as well as training to alleviate workplace violence and safety hazards alike. (Dias, 2011) There are many issues that can arise at a moment's notice and your job is to prepare for any issue that may ascend. Sure, there is no such thing as a 100% success rate in dealing with the many complex issues in the workplace, yet you can be 100% prepared for any issues that can derail your company's...show more content... The other violation relates to lose respirators that the Painters use while spraying. The faulty masks can lead to lung disease resulting in a painful death. (Diedrich, 2017) My father has sprayed lacquer in his Woodshop for decades using cheap ineffective respirators and he now suffers from pulmonary fibrosis that will eventually take his life from him. The oak barrel company needs to invest in the safety of its employees by purchasing better quality equipment for their safety. Once the investment is made you must make sure that the employees are trained in the proper use of such equipment. In all reality, companies have a duty to ensure the safety of its employees. Most of the time issues occur due to negligence caused by expenses. It doesn't pay to be frugal when it comes to safety. There are many risks in the workplace in these risks can be avoided. Health issues can be addressed and, yet they will still happen. Let's say that a company stores hazardous materials that can cause injury or death to an employee if there are no safety measures to alert the employees to dangerous leaks of hazardous liquids or gases. than the employee can become sick from the leaks or perish from the leaks. In any situation it can be easily thwarted through training, updating equipment, and following safety procedures and policies. • 2. Health And Safety Of The Workplace Health and safety in the workplace are both important topics that need to be incorporated in the workplace environment so that all parties involved in a company are protected and secure. There are many objectives that have been discussed in this class that are essential to an employee's general health and overall safety while performing job tasks and responsibilities. The following objectives have been chosen from one particular week of discussion, and they will be discussed in more detail. These objections include: assess when to investigate, what to investigate, and who should investigate accident investigations; describe workplace stress, its causes, and human reactions that may occur; describe preliminary and detailed hazard analysis; define workplace ethics and explain the guidelines for determining ethical behavior; and finally, identify workplace violence reduction strategies and explain them. From week 4 of our assignments, we learned about accident investigations. Accidents need to be investigated as soon as everyone involved in the accident is under control and cared for as needed. According to our text on page 163, "waiting too long to complete an investigation can harm the results." (Goetsch, 2015) Facts may become distorted if one waits too long to begin an investigation. All accidents need to be investigated, no matter how large or small. The main reason that investigations are conducted is to collect facts, rather than find blame. • 3. Stress in the Workplace Essay Stress in the workplace Stress in the workplace has become one of the increasingly popular topics of discussion over the last couple of decades. It has become a major concern among various organizations creating an impact on the management and operations of the organization. This paper will give a detailed definition of what stress in the workplace is and the most common causes of stress amongst both employers and employees. In the midst of investigating the causes of stress, I will give an outline of what can be done to manage the stress by not only the individual but also by the employers themselves. I will also mention the effects of stress to an individual, which can be categorized as short–term effects both psychological and...show more content... In the United States, the American Institute of Stress (AIS) has estimated that 40% of the worker turnover is due to stress and the cost of stress in the workplace has been estimated to be over $300 billion per year. However, the ability of employers to lower the rate of stress in the workplace has shown to improve the employee's quality of work and their health (Lee 36). Causes of stress in the workplace There are a variety of different causes of stress in the workplace and an ability to identify these as an employer is important because it will help in knowing how to deal with and correct any problems arising from it. Most of the stresses are caused when the demands at work become extreme or excessive. Many of these demands are a direct result of technological advances that have made work processes easier but on the other hand, require employees to do more tasks. Current technology demands the workers to constantly perform near peak levels, be competitive and be cognizant of technological breakthroughs. In some circumstances, the organization fails to inform the workers about changes in the business or the technology they are using in their systems which can cause tension and uncertainty. Because of this, the worker can feel a constant fear of losing their position if they do not work efficiently and understand the new changes in the organization. Another cause of stress is a change in the workplace environment. As an Get more content on HelpWriting.net

There are a lot of people particularly women when they apply for a job or want to see one, they prefer the safety of the workplace. A lot of employers and organizations needs to be aware that there is a lot more to providingsafety at the workplace. An important aspect in promoting safety at workplace includes adding a certain clause in the agreements as well so when a person signs that agreement at the time of getting that job he/she knows that they will be working in a secure environment at the workplace. There are certain employers who do not realize how important it is to promote a safe working environment for their employees and have structural constraints in their organization which makes it more difficult for any employ to report an issue (Gray). There are certain jobs that require real hard work and they have to work under critical circumstances. Workplace Safety Essay Workplace Safety BUS642: Business Research & Method Tools Instructor: Janice Johnson April 16, 2012 In order for a workplace to be a productive and welcoming environment, safety must be a priority. The overall plan and execution of safety measures ensure that the staff or workers will be well–prepared and have peace of mind on a daily basis. The best way to handle any bad situation is to properly evaluate the steps and think about scenarios ahead of time. In order to improve safety in a work environment, the company must analyze the location, availability, and knowledge of the workers in regard to safety equipment, evacuation plans, and emergency medical situations. Any program made for the purpose of improving safety and health in the workplace should be concerned with promoting and rewarding safe practices at work, eliminating fatalities at work, and reducing injuries and illnesses at work. On a continuous basis, measuring performance and keeping a record of your safety and health program is a good technique to ensure that targets are met daily. Likewise, it's equally necessary to have a systematic evaluation on the compliance of procedures, regulations, and standards; an analysis on the causes of injuries and accidents; and finding out any deficiencies and correcting them. Ensuring employee safety in the work place has immeasurable benefits to an organization. The first thing that some companies can do is to complete an employee survey. This help in several respects: employees give feedback about the work environment and point out areas where safety concerns existed, and it gives them a useful way to help make sure that a similar accident would not happen again. Once the survey was finished, a memo could be circulated to remind employees that their reports of any safety concern at any time were most welcome and appreciated. (Greenberg) With an employee survey their maybe risks that management may have overlooked that the employees have noticed. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. Reflection On Health And Safety Reflective questions for Module 4: Workplace Health and Safety 1)Before you studied this module, what did you think would be involved in managing workplace health and safety? Before this module, I thought that to manage workplace health and safety (WH&S) effectively, involved rigorous preventative measures. With this, I acknowledged the idea of analysis of workplace processes, and an understanding of various job roles to be important to managing WH&S. Hence, I had a superficial expectation that prevention and not treatment, was the primary mechanism for addressing WH&S issues; which may not always be the case. Recognisably, I didn't expect organisational culture that incorporated WH&S, to be a valuable preventative and treatment tool for managing WH&S. 2)During this module you learned about various forms of risks in workplace health and safety. What happened when you tried to conduct arisk assessment and develop a hazard management plan for a hazard which could be encountered by a Happy Dogs dog walker? What did you find challenging? When completing this task, I found the obvious hazard of being bitten; however, I found it challenging to identify a hazard of being hit by a car. I think this may due to subconsciously identifying direct hazards, more prominently than indirect. I found that the level of risk to be subjective. Referring to the hazard of being bitten, I assumed it to be a moderate to high risk. However, if I had been bitten previously, I subconsciously may have increased this risk to extreme. In managing this hazard, I thought it was difficult to prevent, without offending the customer (muffling). Therefore, a major challenge for me was to not impact customer perception through a management–plan. 3)Interpret your experience. Why do you think you experienced the challenges that you did? If it was because you did not have something you needed, explain what you needed and how you would have benefited/ what you would have been able to do differently if you did have it. I believe that there is one main reason I experienced challenges; that I am not a dog owner. Hence. I needed the experience of being around dogs, and understanding their nature. With this experience, I think I

  • 14. Hazards In Health And Safety Workplace Essay The OHS&W (Occupational Health and Safety Workplace) various types of hazards in the scenario is: Physical Hazard: A chair on the floor and fragmented glass and Biological Hazard: blood spilt on the floor, the blood splattered on the walls and the officer's blood mixed with the offender's blood. However, if the scenario was different and the HSR (Health Safety Representative) was in the room while the officers were in the room as well as the offender. The scenario played out, the other potential hazards in the room would be the offender with the chair as a threat is a physicalhazard. The officer slipping on the blood is physical hazard but the officer's blood mixing with the offender's blood would be considered a biological hazard due to potential infections of diseases and health problems could occur. The offender not being restrained can also prove to be a hazard depending on his behaviour and attitude and would be classified as potential hazard. The puddle of blood on the floor has a moderate to high likelihood that it would cause an injury or illness. A work group may cover multiple locations but include similar job activities or a work group may cover a range of job types in a single location. Workers can be represented in the negotiation and determination of a workgroup by their union Once work groups are determined then each work group can determine the best method for WHS consultation. The options for WHS consultation include; i. Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) ii. Health and Safety Committees (HSCs) iii. Other agreed arrangements(meetings) 5. How to record and communicate outcomes of consultation over WHS issues and how quickly to provide information about the outcomes of participation and consultation to work teams All consultations over WHS issues and their outcomes are to be recorded using standard templates and document control processes like minute taking if it's a regular meeting. • 18. Workplace Health and Safety Legislation Essay The health and safety at work act (1974) puts a responsibility on all employers to provide a safe environment at work for their employees and is probably the main law regarding health and safety in the work place. It gives employers the responsibility of providing a clean environment to work in; safety checks on all machinery/equipment, competent trained and supervised staff and the welfare of employees at work. This law has had a massive impact on sport especially in gyms and health centres as it has provided much safer places of work out, as all machinery/equipment now has to be checked regularly for faults and all staff has to be fully qualified preventing injuries and saving lives....show more content... This law has had an impact on all sports that generate large crowds to their grounds/stadiums such as rugby or cricket although its largest effect would have been on football as it generates more fans than any other sport in this country, when you look at clubs like Arsenal and Man U who have tens of thousands of people at their games you can see how important it is to provide fire safety when there are so many lives at stake. Therefore this law has allowed people to go to their teams club and know that if a fire does break out that there has been checks and procedures put in place to deal with the matter as quickly and effectively as possible. The working time regulations law (1998) regulates the maximum number of hours worked for all employees. It also states how many breaks should be given and at what length they should be. This law gives employers the responsibility to ensure that their employees work no more than 48–hours in a seven–day week. Checks will be made to ensure this is happening over a 17–week period. The impact this has had on sport is that it has prevented people from overworking and causing themselves or someone else harm for instance if a person had worked a 7 day stretch of about 64 hours in a gym as an instructor they would be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. The Occupational Safety and Health Act Essays The Occupational Safety and Health Act Just imagine working in an environment where there are very few safety regulations, and little safety equipment. Think of how it was for employees of a steel manufacturing plant to work where there are almost no safety regulations and safety hazards all around you. This is how the work environment was before 1970; there were only few laws or regulations that required employers to maintain certain safety standards or working conditions for employees. However in 1970 President Richard Nixon sought to change all of this by signing into law the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). The Occupational Safety and Health Act's mission is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by ...show more content... OSHA states that any employer that has employees and is in a business affecting commerce (which is most employers) are required to follow OSHA's requirements. There are two requirements that the act imposes on employers to accomplish a safer workplace. First the employer must comply with all of the safety and health standards dictated by the department of Labor, this is most often called the "compliance" requirements. Second, the employer must give each of its employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or physical harm, this is a very broad requirement and is often referred to as the "general duty" clause (Bennett, Alexander, & Hartman, 2003). This clause if often used in trial by the prosecution and the employer is most often not able to defend against it. At the time of an inspection the inspector goes to the workplace unannounced to ensure that they are viewing the workplace in the same condition as the employees. If someone if caught giving advance notice of an inspection they could be fined up to $1000 (Bennett, Alexander, & Hartman, 2003). During an inspection the inspector will conduct a "walk around" to visually inspect the workplace. At the end of the inspection the inspector will discuss the violations or potential violations with the company owner, the inspector will also discuss any concerns or give Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Workplace Safety In The Workplace Workplace safety is a big deal. If you don't think so, take a look at the research done by the Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA).American employers pay out an average of $1 billion per week for workman's compensation fees. Mind you, this doesn't include medical and legal fees that incur. Staying on top of the safety aspect in your workplace is not only essential because you don't want to see anyone get hurt. It's essential because it's best for the financial health of your business. When it comes to workplace safety, employee engagement needs to be placed high on the list of topics to approach. This is the case for a few reasons. 1.Perception It's often stated that perception is everything. People filter information through the lens of their own perceptions. Whether their perception is healthy or not, they're bound to look at it through that lens. So, as an employer that's desiring employee engagement, it's important to consider a person's perception. While you're not responsible for every little detail of why people perceive information the way that they do, you do need to take it into account. For example, if something happens with a machine breaking down and it's the fault of a particular employee, the initial feelings might be mixed with anger and frustration. However, it's best to calm down, get collected and face the issue with a cool head. If you get behind the computer and type an angry email with all caps, the perception is that you're angry, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
