2. About
Insurance isn’t fun. But it’s important.
We live in a world where hedging against risk is an important financial consideration. We buy all
sorts of insurance policies to protect against risk; to offset the risk of death and leaving our
dependents behind with nothing, we buy life insurance. To avoid paying massive repair fees on our
cars in case of accidents, we get auto insurance. We even protect against the risk of a burglar
breaking in and stealing our worldly possessions using renters insurance. However, there’s one
risk that we’ve neglected to account for: Loss of income. IncomeSaver’s one and only mission is to
get people an insurance policy that protects against the risk of loss of income due to injury or
illness.
How did we get here?
Disability Insurance is a pretty niche field, so you must be wondering, how did we come across it?
Our founders worked at a fin-tech startup that offered free disability insurance as a benefit. After
doing some further research, our founders couldn’t believe how few people had access to
something as important to financial wellness as disability insurance. Many, many energy-drink-
fueled all-nighters later, they came up with IncomeSaver: a disability insurance brokerage with a
focus on ease of access, customer service and education. The point of IncomeSaver is to make it
easy for anyone to get a disability insurance policy, and get any help they need to make the process
as easy as possible.
3. Easiest process in the game.
Even though disability insurance is incredibly important, the sales process has not made it easy for
people to get a policy. IncomeSaver is here to change all that: No more tedious print-and-signs, long
phone calls or pushy insurance agents. IncomeSaver simplifies the process to a completely online
system, from getting a quote, to filling application forms, to signing the final policy. The entire
application process can be done from the comfort of your home. Need help? Send us a message on
Facebook or WhatsApp, or use our AI Chatbot on our website. Need more in-depth help? Give us a call
and one of our experts will help you through any issues! Don’t have the time to log in to our website
and fill in the form to get a quote? Don’t sweat it. Drop us a message on Facebook or WhatsApp and
we’ll ask you all the questions over text. Our end goal is to make it ridiculously easy for you to get this
incredibly important insurance policy, and we’ll strive to great lengths to do just that.
Hard-Sell? Not in our house.
We totally understand the negative perception of insurance agents/brokers. And in some cases, it
really is warranted. But our goal at IncomeSaver is to be different. Our one and only value-add is to
explain, in no uncertain terms, how a policy and any add-ons work. To that end, we won’t bombard
you with unnecessary sales calls, but only call you when YOU schedule a time to talk. We believe
disability insurance is an incredibly important part of financial planning, and everyone who has an
income should have a policy. We also believe that once we inform and educate people about income
protection, the only logical conclusion would be to get a disability insurance policy. No need for hard-
selling!

5. Disability Insurance: The A to Z Guide
What is disability insurance?
Disability insurance is just an “Income Protection Plan” that does exactly what the name suggests: it protects your income if you’re not able
to work due to injury or illness.
How does disability insurance work?
It’s simple: If you can’t go to work and earn an income to sustain yourself because of an accident or illness, a disability insurance or income
protection plan will pay you a monthly stipend, just like a salary!
There’s a short buffer period, called the Elimination period, between the claim and start of the monthly policy pay-outs. The longer the
elimination period, the cheaper the cost of the plan. So if you have savings put aside to sustain you for a while, it might be a cost-effective
idea to use them in this period.
The policy will continue to pay-out until you’re healthy enough to go to work again, or if the term of the pay-out runs out.
Why do you need a disability insurance plan?
1 in 4 people will not be able to go to work at some point in their career due to illness or injury. The average disability period in America is
approximately 2.5 years, which means that you stand to lose 135 weekly paychecks. Financial planning is an important step in attaining
fiscal responsibility, but financial planning would be out of the question if you didn’t have an income to pay for those plans. Therefore, it’s
important to protect yourself in all eventualities with a disability insurance plan.
6. Who needs disability insurance?
Short answer? Anyone who works and earns an income.
62% of bankruptcies in the U.S. and more than 50% of all mortgage foreclosures come from illness or injury-related medical issues. A
disability insurance plan would aid these situations by paying you a monthly stipend while you’re recovering. With these stipends from your
plan, you can pay for your everyday expenses, cover recurring bills and take care of any dependents. That way, your focus is solely on getting
healthy again, rather than on financial worries.
Can I get a policy instantly?
Maybe. But one things for sure: it won’t be comprehensive enough to meet all your needs on what would be the worst day of your life.
Slow, Steady and Comprehensive wins the race – the IncomeSaver motto.
We understand the appeal of getting a policy and signing up for it instantly. However, disability insurance is too complicated for a one-size-
fits-all approach. Each person’s needs are different, and we at IncomeSaver understand that.
We don’t want to give you a cookie-cutter policy that’s going to inadequately protect you when you need it the most. We want to give you a
policy that gives you quality coverage under any circumstance, while paying exactly what you need to – not a penny more.
Our process doesn’t give you a half-baked quote instantly– but in 1 business day, the quotes you get from IncomeSaver will make sure your
finances are secure for the foreseeable future, come what may.
While others may ask you to choose your own plan, we at IncomeSaver understand how complex disability insurance can be. That’s why we
have assembled a team of the best income protection specialists in the country to help you find the best disability plan for you! Just by
looking at your responses to the quotation form, they’ll determine how much coverage you need, how long you need it for, and all of the
additional riders to make it a comprehensive package. What do you have to do then? Just answer some basic questions about yourself, and
we’ll take care of the rest!
7. Already have a plan from your employer?
Great but you’re probably going to need a supplemental plan!
Did you know? If the premiums of your disability insurance policy are paid by your employer, the benefits are taxable. For example, if the
policy pays 60% of your monthly income as the benefit amount upon disability and your tax rate is 25%, your coverage will only be 45% of
your income after tax [ 60%*75% = 45%]. However, if you pay the policy premiums from your own pocket, the benefit amount is non-
taxable.
You can get a relatively cheaper supplemental income protection plan to ensure that the tax shortfall is covered. This way, you’ll never be left
wanting if the need arises.
Banking on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)?
SSDI has a stringent definition of what a “disability” is and requirements for work credits that disqualifies most people from seeing its
benefits.
Depending on your age, you need to have acquired a certain number of “work credits” by the time of disability to have SSDI. Work credits can
only be acquired by working for a requisite number of years, which could go all the way up to 10 years.
SSDI also has a stringent definition of what a “disability” is. If you’re able to work at *any* job [not just your pre-disability occupation] and
earn over $1,180 per month, you are automatically disqualified from SSDI.
With such stringent conditions, it’s difficult to rely on SSDI. Therefore, we always recommend potential clients to get an individual policy,
just so they have the peace of mind knowing that their risk has been hedged.
