5. Introduction
Code of Ethics -
A code of ethics is a set of principles aimed to assist professionals conduct
business in an honest and ethical manner.
A code of ethics, also referred to as an "ethical code," may encompass areas such
as business ethics, a code of professional practice, and an employee code of
conduct.
6. Importance of Code of Ethics
• It provides a common set of rules or standards for all.
• It defines best practices for the profession.
• Develop good relationship between business & society.
• It provides a basis to meet compliance requirements for the
profession.
• It promote employment ethics : safety promotion, health &
safe working conditions.
• It provides a legal standard for the profession.
8. IEEE code of ethics, no-3
IEEE Code of Ethics rule - 3 :
Engineers have to be honest and realistic in stating claims.
The information should be given basis on proper data.
Engineers shouldn’t not give any wrong information to the
public.
If an accident happens during the life cycle of a project, an
inquiry should be conducted properly.
To be honest and realistic in stating claims or estimates
based on available data.
10. A Case study
ABC Techno Limited has introduced a new chipset, X 888G. They are
claiming that it is offering CPU clock speed at up to 3.0 GHz and is
equipped with the sixth-generation AI Engine with up to 32 TOPS (Tera
Operation Per Second) AI performance. The company claims this is more
than a 30 percent improvement than the old one. They also claim that
the total Antutu Benchmark score is 707638. Behind the scene, the
authority of the company forced the project engineers to launch that
product within 6 months otherwise told the engineers to resign form
the company. But they needed at least 12 months to launch that
product with proper testing. With the immense amount of pressure, the
engineers able to bring a very little amount change on their product
and launched product without proper testing. The tech experts
reviewed their new product and found the clock speed was only 2.0 GHz
and the Antutu Benchmark score was 603593. As a result, people are
deceived. The reviewers sent their review result to that company. But
the engineers totally refused that review and didn’t agree with them.
Now what the engineers should do in this situation to protect the
fame of the company and there job?
12. Solution (using 4-Step analysis Method)
Moral Clarity:
In that case, the engineer didn’t gave the real data.
People are deceived by buying their product with false statement.
Engineers ignore the honest criticism and review from the reviewers.
They launched the product without proper testing.
13. Solution (using 4-Step analysis Method)
Know the facts :
The engineer finished production in short time.
They finished the product under pressure.
They didn’t test the product properly before launching.
15. Solution (using 4-Step analysis Method)
Propose Solution:
Solution - 1 :
Engineer can ignore or disagree the reviewers opinion to defend the fame of
the company.
Solution - 2 :
Engineer can accept blame form the reviewer and can re-manufactured the
product.
16. Solution (using 4-Step analysis Method)
Making a decision:
Solution – 1 will be the best decision on this case because –
• It doesn’t effect much on company’s reputation.
• No job risk.
• Do not need much time & money.
• Public safety is also ensured.
• Save re-production cost.
18. Conclusion
• The Engineering code of ethics is important to bring the maximum good or benefit
to the society and to the enterprise as well.
• The ethical code of ethics can improve the quality of working and can secure the
public interest towards any Engineering practice.
• It can lead the Engineering towards the adoption of sustainable working.
• Ethics is a system of principles that helps us tell right from wrong, good from bad.
Ethics can give real and practical guidance to our lives.
• In engineering profession ethics is the most important thing that we must follow in
each single step.
There is a framework of ethics underlying our lives on a daily basis, helping us make decisions that create positive
impacts and steering us away from unjust outcomes. Ethics guides us to make the world a better place through
the choices we make. Ethics in Engineering is just as important as ethics in personal life.
