Conditional sentences are used to express
situations that depend on a certain conditions.
IF-CLAUSE MAIN CLAUSE
CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
 These sentences depend on a certain condition.
Each sentence contains two clauses/parts.
• IF-CLAUSE (subordinate/dependant) Condition
• MAIN CLAUSE (Principal/ordinate/independant) Result

• PRINCIPAL CLAUSE fulfills the condition.
 These sentences depend on a certain condition.

Type 1, Type 2 & Type 3 have fixed sentences’
formation that we can never change.

We can use Future Simple in IF-CLAUSE when we make a request.

TYPE 1 (in ACTION)
 Action shows an activity of a SUBJECT.
 Each sentence contains two clauses/parts.
• IF-CLAUSE (A.V = Do & Does) Auxiliary Verbs are used to make
NEGATIVE sentences.
• MAIN CLAUSE (A.V = will) “Will” is always used.

We can use WOULD in IF-CLAUSE when we make a request.

Sometimes, it is used to criticize people or to point out their mistakes.
If you both hadn’t fallen ill and missed the interview, you would have got jobs.

Sometimes, it is used to express regret about the past.
If you’d been a bit more careful, you would not have cut yourself.
If Emran had set his alarm clock, he would not have overslept.

  • 4. CONDITIONAL SENTENCES Conditional sentences are used to express situations that depend on a certain conditions.
  • 5. IF-CLAUSE MAIN CLAUSE CONDITIONAL SENTENCES  These sentences depend on a certain condition. Each sentence contains two clauses/parts. • IF-CLAUSE (subordinate/dependant) Condition • MAIN CLAUSE (Principal/ordinate/independant) Result SENTENCES’ FORMATION + ✔️AFFIRMATIVE ✔️NEGATIVE ❌INTERROGATIVE ❌QUESTION + NEGATIVE ✔️AFFIRMATIVE ✔️NEGATIVE ✔️INTERROGATIVE ✔️QUESTION + NEGATIVE • IF-CLAUSE shows condition for any action and state. • PRINCIPAL CLAUSE fulfills the condition.

I will forget it. she will speak fluently. If + Simple Future + Simple Future We can use Future Simple in IF-CLAUSE when we make a request.
