Sidhartha Gautama was born a prince in India 2500 years ago and was moved by the suffering around him. He meditated under a banyan tree and became enlightened, realizing the Four Noble Truths: that suffering exists, it has a cause, it can be overcome, and the eightfold path provides the way to overcome it. He spent his life teaching this path to peace and happiness before passing away at age 80.
