____________ Education
10/2012 – 06/2016 Graduated Lancaster University, Lancaster, United Kingdom
Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering – (2.1)
Current [professional development]
07/2016 – 08/2016 Learning German at Goethe Institute, Germany, Hamburg
Past
10/2010 – 06/2012 Foundation Lancaster University, Lancaster, United Kingdom
Foundation studies for entry to Lancaster University as an International
student.
08/2008 – 06/2010 American International School of Mozambique, Maputo,
Graduated with a high school diploma and IB Certificates
08/2006 – 06/2008 American Community School of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Started high school career
Practical Experience
07/2015– 09/2015 Internship at Central Termoelectrica Punta Catalina (Power Central),
Hatillo, Dominican Republic. [Consortium: Tecnimont, Odebrecht, Estrella]
Had the opportunity to take part of Punta Catalina Internship Program,
which exposes new graduates to their work. This program was not aimed
at a specific working career path, instead I was exposed to several of the
different areas within the project structure, rotating in between sectors
such as financing, engineering, human resources, safety and
administration. This was a truly unique and valuable experience as I was
able to observe not only what entails in the works of such a massive
project, but also how several seemingly independent areas interact on
both a technical and personal level.
Research and Project Experience
10/2015 – 05/2016 4th
Year Master’s Project, Lancaster University, United Kingdom
A Master project required for the completion of the MEng program. Our
group built a fully automated 3-Dimensional gantry for the purpose of
applying galvanizing coating on heated silicon sheets. The intention was
for these slabs to be processed and used within various electronic
applications, particularly touchscreens. The project included design
component stages, construction of the gantry in parallel to the
programming of the Raspberry controller and final operational testing.
06/2015 – 06/2015 Industry Outreach Project, Lancaster University, United Kingdom
With the help of Lancaster University, selected student groups underwent
two week projects commissioned by companies located in the Lancashire
area. My group was given a project by the Truncator® Sawhorse company
for a manually driven log displacing unit. The company already had a
strong image of the type of actuation they desired, and hoped we could
2. provide some of the details related to the construction. In the end we
were forced to demonstrate, through general calculations and analysis,
that unless some of their requirements and fundamentals were changed,
achieving their desired results within the given constraints was not
possible. The project provided an interesting insight in how the views of
a company can influence design, as well as the means of communication
between requisition and design teams.
06/2014 – 06/2015 3rd
Year Dissertation, Lancaster University, United Kingdom
With the title “Actuator system for mechanically tunable photonic
crystals” my dissertation was focused on practical applications of cost
effective linear actuation. Expanding upon simulation based results
acquired in the previous year by another student, I aimed to propose, and
build, an actuator for stress and deformation analysis of preselected
photonic slabs. The systems primary aim was simplicity in construction
and cost, as the tests would simply provide visual confirmation of ANSYS
predicted deformation of large photonic slabs.
