IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY
ON
SCHOOLS AND CULTURE
Presented by:Iffat Sohail

Presented to:
Ma’am Parveen
Technology is the application of scientific knowledge
to the practical aims of human life or, as it is
sometimes phrased, to the change and manipulation
of the human environment.
 The advent of technology in educational field has made
the process of learning and knowledge sharing more
interactive.
 The greatest impact of technology on education is the
change in our outlook towards the world.
 The remarkable shift in thinking from local to global
can be attributed to technology.
 It has both negative as well as positive impacts on our
schools and the culture as well.
Technology is a teaching tool:
 Computers provide us with an
interactive audio-visual
medium. Animation software
and Power Point presentations
are used to present information
in an interactive way.
 Large number of students can be
addressed simultaneously with
the help of projectors, screens,
microphones and speakers.
These teaching aids have led to
increased attendance in classes.
 Technology has made the life of
students easier. Nowadays, students
use different software and tools to
make presentations and projects,
instead of using pen and paper.
 E book is easier as compared to a
heavy book.
 There are online libraries which
require no physical space. The
teachers, students and researchers
sitting in different parts of the world
can access the same online library.
The internet search engines are a source of immense
information. They are now used as an effective tool for
searching information. All this is possible in just one or
two clicks. Both teachers and students are benefited
through this.
 Waste of time:
Problems like server issues and connectivity problems take a
huge amount of time to get fixed, hence it disturbs the
normal flow of teaching and causes frustration for both the
teacher and the student.
 Misguided due to wrong information:
Many websites contain wrong information on various
topics that are pasted or copied from different sources
without verifying the authenticity of the content.
Major source of distraction:
 Research has revealed that more than
60% of schools and colleges in the
world are using modern devices like
laptops and tablets as a means of
teaching and learning.
 With 90% of the world’s population
using social media. So the devices
which are provided to the students for
studying are instead used to be
active on social media. Students
being interested in checking the posts
and status updates of their near and
dear ones and many other things.
 There are many situations where the students can
cheat very easily without getting caught, e.g. in an
examination hall students can use their smart phones
for cheating.
 Devices like laptops, desktops, tablets, and smart
phones have already replaced the use of a normal pen
and paper. Due to this, all the important assignments
and documents are typed and saved into the respective
folders, hence the writing down on paper is more or
less eliminated.
 In agriculture, the introduction
of machines that can till, thresh,
plant, and harvest greatly reduced
the need for manual labor.
 Helps to promote one’s culture
 Positive changes in behavior
through adopting the good norms
from other’s culture
 Reduction of communication gap
 Awareness regarding preservation
of culture
 Ability to control mass
population with
misinformation and
propaganda.
 Technology is distracting,
can shorten peoples
attention spans. This can
have a negative effect on
the cultural events people
do attend.
 Causes acculturation
(adopting others culture)
and cultural lag
