Editor's Notes
Hi, I’m Erik Kostelnik, the Vice President of Sales here at Identified. Identified is Facebook's Professional Search Engine for Employers. We help connect companies with people while bringing ranking and relevance to the Facebook network. Thanks for joining us today for a live product demo on how to professionally search through your Facebook network. This webinar should last approximately 20 minutes, with 10 minutes left for a Q&A session.Today, I’m going to talk about how to tap into your existing 1stand 2nd degree Facebook network to source candidates.
Take aways today are:A Full understanding of 1st and 2nd degree connections, how they are calculated and what they meanHow to professionally search through FacebookA demo of Identified.com user sideA quick review of Identified for Employers subscriptions and Future Products
Lets start off with most likely the most confusing part of this webinar the theory six degrees of separation. It’s necessary to have a basic understanding of this theory since Identified’s platform is based on 3 degrees. Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the "Human Web") refers to the idea that everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth, so that a chain of, "a friend of a friend" statements can be made to connect any two people in six steps or fewer. I’m sure that everyone joining us today knows what Facebook is. Very plainly, it is the largest human database of all time with over 750 million users worldwide. Not only is Facebook the largest database, but it is also the most accurate and up to date database with average users returning 4 times a day. Because Facebook knows that you value the time that you have put into building your network and engaging with your friends, they have given you access to cataloguedinformation on your direct friends, or 1st first degree network, and friends of friends, or your second degree network. The challenge for you as a recruiter and the reason that cannot use Facebook like your LinkedIn profile is that Facebook is inherently social, it does not come out and show you the catalogued work experience, job titles, education, location, all of the things that would make Facebook a great recruiting tool.Lets take a further look into 1st and 2nd degree Facebook networks and start to give you a peek into how to leverage your existing Facebook network through Identified.
Since Identified’s technology pulls your network information out of Facebook, we can show you your 1st and 2nd degree connections in detail while bringing professional relevancy to the information. On this slide you can see the networks of my two Facebook friends Brendan and Carolyn. I pulled this from Identified and will show you later how you can access this and more information from your own existing Facebook network. As we have discussed my 2nd degree connections are a summation of “friends of friends”. Brendan’s 2,118 and Carolyn’s 1,704 are added with my other 2nd degree connections to total 23,142 “friends of friends”. Through my 1st and 2nd degree connections, I also am connected to 2,891 companies.
Here are the facts:Based on Jobvite’s 2011 Social Recruiting Survey 2/3s of all companies have successfully hired through a Social Network with 95% off recruiters making a hire from LinkedIn and 25% making a hire from Facebook… if Facebook is so much bigger than LinkedIn and you already have all these connections set up, why is it that recruiters are not making hires from it? The reason is because recruiters and companies are using Facebook like a job board. They are spending a lot of money on posting jobs on their company pages, posting jobs through ATS, or advertising. There are some diamonds in the ruff out there that you will find with job boards, or by posting jobs, but job seekers hate applying to job postings and recruiters hate sifting through thousands of resumes to find the right fit. Quality candidates, I’ll call them Ninjas, want to find jobs through other Ninjas and will not apply to jobs, even if the job postings are on Facebook. With Identified’s search technology you now have the access to turn your own Facebook network into a personal Ninja database. Before I show you have lets talk numbers.
Facebook is where passive talent lives. Actually, not only is Facebook where talent lives, but where people socialize, work, check-in, buy, and get their news. And your target audience of 1-14 years experience is not on LinkedIn. 130m users are on Facebook between the ages of 18 and 35 with Linkedinhovering around 8m.The problem with LinkedIn is not the product itself, the issue is based on the Jobvite study 87% of all recruiters use the service. With a limited amount of users, THE PLATFORM IS BECOMING SUPERSATURATED with RECRUITERS and SALESPEOPLE. Facebook is our focus today and how to use Identified to professionally search through your existing network.Lets take a look at my Facebook network professionally interpreted by Identified.
