This document provides information on funding options and entry requirements for international and UK students applying to postgraduate transport studies programs at the Institute for Transport Studies. It outlines several international and national scholarship opportunities that provide tuition fees and living expenses support. The relevant academic disciplines, language requirements, and application deadlines are also summarized. Students are advised to apply well in advance of deadlines and ITS may put forward names for national competitions.

8. Relevant Disciplines
• accept from a wide range of academic backgrounds
• most common: Civil Engineering, Geography, Economics
• also: other Engineering, Maths, Physics, Psychology,
Sociology, Politics, Planning, Architecture, Environment…
• most science / social science disciplines transferable
• MA requires some background in academic Economics
• MSc(Eng) & MScTP&Env most suitable for those with
numerate / engineering background
• MSc most suitable for those with focus on qualitative skills
• MScS(T) aimed at students with environmental interests
9. Academic Entry Requirements
• a Bachelor degree or an alternative qualification of
equivalent / higher level from an institution recognised by UK
NARIC
• evidence of performance to UK 2(i) standard or higher
• lower degrees may be accepted in combination with relevant
practical experience
• including a full professional CV with dates of employment,
projects worked on & duties can speed up the process
10. English Language Entry Requirements
If first language is not English or degree is not from a
university in an English speaking country...
• formal proof of language skills (eg IELTS / TOEFL)
• overall IELTS score of 6.5, with at least 6.0 in each element
of the test required
• overall TOEFL score of 92, with at least 21 in Listening &
Reading, 23 in Speaking & 22 in Writing
• pre-sessional English language courses may be available for
those very close to the requirements
11. Entry & Funding: General Advice
• non-EU students can only get visas for full time study
• non-UK applicants from EU can get fees awards but not
normally maintenance grants (Rees Jeffreys the exception)
• part-time students normally ineligible for funding (Full Fees
Scholarship the exception)
• submit applications in good time (allow 2 weeks to process)
• in some cases offers may be made before the dates
indicated
• ITS reserves the right to make decisions on putting names
forward for national competitions for best advantage
