Research Activities
1. Enzymology, in collaboration with many abroad laboratories in different research fields. In this
sense,I am studying characteristics and distribution of some kind of enzymes in whole or selected
tissues in an ontogenetic approach. Also I am studying expression of candidate gene coding
enzymes with Kinetic PCR and kinetics of respective enzymes following different physical and
psychological stresses in animal models in my joint Neuroscience and Enzymology laboratory. In
the behavioral neuroscience section, we collaborate with Prof Lora A. Becker in the University of
Evansville, USA. Nowadays, I am working on enzyme technology to produce enzymes for
detergency (e.g., protease) and animal nutrition (phytase).
2. Ecophysiotoxicology, in collaboration with the most prominent scientist Prof Dehority from Ohio
university, USA to characterize fauna of protozoa in Iranian ecotypes of animals because we sense
their meager in current literatures of protistology and ruminant physiology. My team is involved to
survey ciliate fauna of all Iranian native (pseudo)ruminants with both conventional morphological
and molecular metagenomic approaches that commonly used in microbial ecology. Here,our vision
is to produce a cow-side molecular kit to give us in vivo information of microbial digestion in the
field. In ecotoxicological part, as a member of an elaborate team in División Académica De
Ciencias Biológicas, Universidad Juárez Autónoma De Tabasco,México, I am studying the effects
of heavy metals like cadmium and lead on performance of tropical fishes like Tilapia spp.
3. Ethnomedicine and reverse pharmacognosy, in collaboration with colleges of pharmacy and
medical sciences of Kermanshah, Iran. This field is one of the most productive branches in my
laboratory nowadays. We are studying the effects of endemic herbs on different biological aspects
with a “Molecule to Man” or “DNA to Donkey” approach. Here our vision is to revive Kurdish
Ethnomedicine and to produce phytomedicines. Nowadays, I am screening phytomedicines with
anti-atherosclerotic effects through inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase.
4. Translational research is my special interest. The theme of translational physiology is defined as
the interacting contributions of clinical and laboratory research in advancing the understanding of
normal and pathological physiology. The idea is to take a research program from ‘‘bench to
bedside’’, an area that is receiving increasing support. This area enables us to produce animal
models for human and animal diseases such as menopause, diabetes mellitus, hypertension,
metabolic syndrome, obesity, MS, epilepsy, addiction … and knockout animals. This field is also
very productive and successfully, we work on the therapeutic effects of Kurdish ethnobotany on
translated animal models of Andropause, Menopause, Dermatophytoses, Hyperuricemia, Diet-
induced obesity and Metabolic syndrome.
5. Safety Pharmacology, Nanotoxicology, Nanofood, Nanofeed in this field, I defined many
projects for my BSc and Ph.D. students to evaluate metabolic, cardiovascular and neurotoxicologic
effects of nanocompounds like carbon nanotubes and antidepressant drugs like SSRIs in animal

models. The uncontrolled and accelerated production and usages of nanomaterials in Iran in the last
decade would be very hazardous for both biotic and abiotic ecosystems in the near future. In this
regard, I believe that the nanotoxicologic investigations must be initiated. Nowadays, I am
investigating the reproductive and neurodevelopmental effectsofovertly produced nanocompounds
like carbon nanotubes in animal models.
6. Informatics and Computational Sciences: From 2015, I did my biggest “paradigm shift” from
experimental studies to theoretical and computational biosciences with main focus on systems
biomedicine, biomathematics, cheminformatics, foodinformatics, vaccinomics, reverse
vaccinology, reverse pharmacology, neuroeconomics, genoeconomics, biobusiness, and network
medicine.
