with access control systems. Moreover,
these doors have dual functionality, being
frequently used as emergency exits.
Our solutions for these types of spaces

For the main access area, an automated door
can be easily integrated the building’s architecture.
The solutions proposed by Vertical Design for the
main entrance are sliding or revolving doors.
Benefits:

solution, while they guarantee safety, security,
performance and quick opening especially when
every second counts.

is the lack of direct contact with the handle, the
main culprit for the spread of bacteria.

with systems designed to limit the access of

Doctors’ offices
High
standards
of hygiene
For doctors’ offices we recommend wooden
doors, coated with 1.2 mm HPL (High
Pressure Laminate), a material with high
resistance to impact, scratches, chemicals,
bacteria or dirt.
The doors can be provided with a special
polyurethane edge. This revolutionary
system to finish the edges creates with the
door surface a single unit that prevents
permeation of bacteria.
The door’s protection with this system
increases the resistance to impact, lifetime
and reduces maintenance costs.
These doors can be easily customized,
with more than 100 decorations available.
By combining the layers of the internal
structures, some special features may result:
acoustic performances, fire rated, humidity
or radiations resistance, smoke tightness etc.
In case of doors with fire resistance of 30,
60 and 90 de minutes, the core is filled with
mineral fibers, with a thickness of 40 mm, 54
and 65 mm. In order to ensure the acoustic
resistance, the doors are supplemented with
three to six layers of MDF; to gain moisture
resistance they can be provided with polymer
foam of 40 mm thickness.
The recommendation of Vertical Design is to
choose hinged HPL doors with galvanized
steel and powder coated door frame.
In rooms where there is equipment
that emits radiation are required
radiological doors that tightly close
the gaps between interior walls.
The solutions proposed by Vertical
Design for this type of space are
radiation shielded doors, provided
with layers of copper/lead on both
sides.
The door frame on which the layers
are mounted is, also, resistant to
radiations and does not allow the
existence of gaps exposed to the
external environment. Since the
doors with lead/cooper are heavy
(approximatively 33kg/sqm), the hinges
are essential to ensure safety.
Each anti-radiation door is a hygienic
structure, sealed to maintain
strict conditions specific to health
institutions, by the most stringent
and high standards. Radiological
doors can have also a degree of
acoustic reduction and protection
against airflows.

A safe and sterile
environment

Surgery rooms
Bacteria are ubiquitous and also
responsible for allergies and
infections. These represent a constant
risk both for the patients and for the
medical staff. It is therefore vital to
maintain in the surgery rooms a sterile
environment, and the doors contribute
largely to this end.
For surgery rooms we recommend
hermetic/ semi-hermetic sliding
doors, with automatic closing system,
specially designed for use in hospitals
and clinics. Sealing sliding doors
ensure a touch-free access and
successfully contribute to prevent the
spread of germs, bacteria and viruses
that cause infections.
These doors with foam interior and
tear-resistant perimeter lining that can
be fitted with invisible stainless steel
frame are designed for a large number
of open/closed cycles and have a long
operating life. Doors are composed of
thermally isolated panels and provide
a good bacterial protection due to
HPL doors skin plating, electrostatic
painted metal or stainless steel.
These types of doors are hygienic
and easy to clean, and the floor
guides on which they run are almost
invisible. The doors’ operation and
programming from the outside can be
done through an alphanumeric display,
a transmitter or based on a magic
switch. Moreover, it is essential to have
an alarm button to allow opening in
case of emergency.
Depending on necessities, doors
destined to surgery rooms may have
other special features like acoustic
performances or radiologic properties.
Hermetic or semi-hermetic sliding
doors can be successfully used also
in quarantine rooms, laboratories,
workrooms, hygienic rooms or in the
pharmaceutical industry.

Emergency admission unit
Safety and rapidity
The emergency unit is the place where
every saved second can save a life.
Therefore, it is essential that access
solutions should meet European
standards and should not hinder in any
way the mobilization of medical crews.
Our solutions recommended for EAU
are quick opening doors, either
sliding of aluminum joinery, PVC
material roll up doors or sandwich
panels etc. These have the role to
reduce the intervention time and to
ensure the protection and safety of
patients, respectively of medical staff.
For ambulances garages can be
successfully used industrial doors
with fast opening up to 2.5 m / s,
especially conceived for use in the
emergency unit etc.
For special areas where the transfer of
patients from ambulance crew is being
done, we can provide quick doors
with opening triggered by sensors or
photocell. Quick doors have a high
flexibility and quiet operation. They are
equipped with complex safety systems
and repair themselves (equipped with
an innovative system that provides
the door’s relocation on rail in case of
disaster, impact etc.).
In terms of design, they can be easily
customized – can be colored, printed
with various graphic layouts, glass
panels can be inserted etc.

Patients’ private wards
In case of modern sanitary units,
the access to patients’ private wards
is done in 99% of cases trough
automatic doors.
In order to ensure the comfort of all
patients but especially of those with
mobility disabilities, Vertical Design
recommends automatic swing doors
as a solution to ease the access to
patients’ rooms. Automatic swing
doors open through pressing a button
or through motion sensors, with the
possibility to set up the operating
range of the sensor.
Also, it is recommended to block the
doors in case of power cuts or at night
to prevent the access of unauthorized
persons in the private wards.
The private wards’ doors have
a variable speed for opening,
respectively closing, and the power
consumption generated by automatic
operation is reduced. In order to avoid
accidents, automatic swing doors are
provided with safety systems (contact
or non-contact).

Medical laboratories
and cleanrooms
For medical laboratories and cleanrooms, that require a special
attention, our company may deliver and install antibacterial
doors. These types of doors have an HPL antibacterial surface,
plated with HC3, a system that under the effect of UV light acts
as a catalyst leading to a simple physical mechanism to destroy
organisms: bacteria, viruses, organic residues. Handles of these
doors are treated with silver ions, which prevent the development,
dissemination and transfer of germs and bacteria.

Common areas
waiting rooms, wards, canteens, recreation rooms
In common spaces, hygiene is a strict requirement,
and HPL laminated doors are a true barrier in the
way of microbes. They meet the highest quality
standards and are successful among architects from
the healthcare institutions segment due to the unique
characteristics of the material.
The encapsulated sandwich type structure, molded
through pressure, of laminated doors is designed in
order to be completely tight to water and gas and
maintains its integrity under humidity conditions.
Professional approach
Laminated doors do not have in their structure
any organic material favoring growth of bacteria
or fungus. In addition, they are easy to clean thanks
to the smooth, nonporous surface that prevents the
deposit of dirt and they have an excellent resistance
to the action of solvents, cleaning agents and
detergents. The HPL corresponds to the M1 class
– low-emission construction materials. For this
reason, the HPL laminated doors act as a barrier
against infection and pathogen agents transmitted
by direct means or air.
Laminated doors are extremely resistant
to mechanical shock (they are classified as the
highest grade of resistance), and as a result they
are ideal for common areas or waiting areas with
heavy traffic. Laminated doors have a medium
weight of 9 kg/sqm, being twice lighter than
traditional wooden doors. This feature makes them
safer and easier to use, even in cases when they
have bigger sizes.
Last but not least, they can be customized in a wide
variety of colors and they are available together
with accessories and metal fitting elements to be
perfectly integrated in the interior décor.
For placement in common areas, Vertical Design
recommends HPL laminated doors with metallic
door frame for areas with relatively little traffic.
In high traffic areas HPL automatic sliding doors
can be successfully integrated. The latter can be
used to enter into sections, canteens etc.

Administrative areas
Performance
and professionalism
For administrative areas, especially
for staff offices, we recommend
the use of fire resistant aluminum
joinery: doors, windows and partitions.
Aluminum doors with standard or fire-
resistant glass can be provided with
accessories: panic bars, antitheft
cylinders, special or electromagnetic
locks with card access control.
Partitions for offices create booths
that manage to keep the employees’
comfort sensation and most important,
to maintain natural lighting and
visibility.
Divisions are made of safety glass
panels, which can be sanded and
different types of aluminum profiles.

For arrangement of common toilets
in hospitals, we recommend sanitary
partitions of HPL, the most modern
solution for areas where resistance in
time and hygiene are essential.
HPL is resistant to humidity,
mechanical shock, scratches and
attrition. The smooth surface of
the material ensures the protection
against microbiological contamination;
moreover, dirt is easily removed.
Consistency, texture and special
toughness ensures high resistance to
scratches and abrasive agents.
Sanitary cabins can be used
inclusively by persons with disabilities
and can be individualized depending
of the project’s requirements. In case
of hospitals, recommended fittings are
aluminum or stainless steel ones.

Fire protection
To protect vital areas of hospitals
and preventing the spread of fire and
smoke in case of fire, our company
proposes the installation of fire-
resistant curtains.
Those automatically unrolls
themselves under the gravitational
action when the fire alarm goes off.
The curtains are a more economical
and less voluminous alternative to fire
resistant metallic sliding doors, to fire-
resistant glazing joinery, to sectional
doors or fire resistant roll up doors.
Fire-retardant curtains may be
provided with sprinkles and the
resulting ensemble is ensuring fire
sealing and thermic isolation (EI)
up to 90 de minutes.
They require reduces installation
space, and the visible elements are
aesthetic and they can have finishes
adapted to interior design or they can
even be incorporated in cladding and
ceilings. In the stand-by mode, curtain
is hidden in the box.

Enclosure system
and parking management
To protect the hospital from the
access of unauthorized persons, it
must be enclosed in an appropriate
manner. The solutions we propose are
fences and gates guaranteeing a high
degree of protection and safety, hot-
galvanized and covered with a layer
of polymer that ensure durability and
unmatched resistance against climatic
factors.
Within hospitals, for adequate
protection of the enclosure, in terms
of efficiency and reliability, our
company recommends the use of
industrial sliding gates. The robust
construction, quiet operation and
space saving due to slide of the gate
parallel to the fence enclosure are the
main advantages of self-supporting.
Their main advantage is given by
the closure and opening without any
contact with the ground.
By not being equipped with rails,
the side sliding is not hindered by
environmental factors: deposits of
clay, mud, ice, snow. Self-supportings
sliding gates can be manually or
electrically operated.
Automatic parking offers increased
comfort to patients, visitors and
healthcare professionals. Restricted
access, fluidity and efficient
management of car traffic are
important goals for hospitals’ yards.
The most important aspect is the
necessity to divide the common
parking from the ambulances’ route
that should not be impeded in any way.
In the hospital’s yard, we recommend
the installation of vehicle barriers
designed for a large number of closed/
open cycles and operated in different
manners: with a button (installed in
the porter’s cabin), remote control,
induction loop installed in the road etc.
