  1. 2. <ul><li>The Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) represents and </li></ul><ul><li>encourages surveyors studying or working within the civil engineering </li></ul><ul><li>industry. </li></ul><ul><li>The Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) is a registered </li></ul><ul><li>charity 1013672. </li></ul>What is ICES?
  2. 3. <ul><li>Established in 1969 as the Association of Surveyors in Civil Engineering and </li></ul><ul><li>incorporated in 1972.  </li></ul><ul><li>ICES wanted to encourage and regulate the professional aspirations of </li></ul><ul><li>quantity surveyors and land surveyors working within the civil engineering </li></ul><ul><li>sector and to increase the value of their services to the public. </li></ul><ul><li>These surveyors had developed a distinctive expertise and understanding of </li></ul><ul><li>the special surveying requirements of the civil engineering industry which was </li></ul><ul><li>not recognised at that time by any of the existing professional bodies. ICES </li></ul><ul><li>represents individual surveyors and not businesses/corporate members. </li></ul>History of ICES
  3. 4. Growth of ICES <ul><li>Since its conception, ICES has gone from strength to strength with an ever </li></ul><ul><li>increasing membership and is now a registered educational charity promoting </li></ul><ul><li>the profession throughout the world. </li></ul>

Professional organisations <ul><li>ICES has developed unique and mutual agreements with the following: </li></ul><ul><li>ICES is an associated body of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). </li></ul><ul><li>ICES is a full member of the UK Construction Industry Council (CIC). </li></ul><ul><li>ICES is a member of the International Cost Engineers Association (ICEA). </li></ul><ul><li>ICES is an active member of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG). </li></ul><ul><li>ICES also works with PI UKChina. </li></ul>

  8. 9. <ul><li>SURCO is the trading company of the Institution of ICES and is responsible for the </li></ul><ul><li>commercial activities of ICES. SURCO was established in 1992 when ICES became </li></ul><ul><li>an educational charity. </li></ul><ul><li>SURCO supports the education and training aspects of ICES membership and </li></ul><ul><li>offers specialist tutor training for surveyors working within civil engineering. </li></ul><ul><li>SURCO also publishes the Institution’s journal, Civil Engineering Surveyor as well </li></ul><ul><li>electronic surveying, construction law and GIS/GPS. </li></ul>Commercial Activity
