Photography evaluation

1. The framing of these pictures that have been taken are both different to each other. First of
all the image on the left, was taken so that it meets the criteria of a portrait image or
picture. The reason why this image looks like it is a portrait image is because the person that
is in the image has there face and shoulders within the frame of the picture. Whereas, the
image on the right, with the individual about to do a trick is a wide angle shot. This is
because, the image is consisting of an entire object or person and this image is showing the
whole body of the individual. Framing in photography, is the type of camera shot that the
image or picture is taken in. For example, a type of framing could be, portrait, macro or a
wide angle shot and all three of these are frames that can be used in photography.
Shutter speed is an elementthatmostcamerashave builtwithinthem.Forexample,the shutter
speedhascontrol overhowlongthe sensorisexposedtolight.Whentakingapicture,youcan
change the settingsof the camera shutter’sspeed. Forexample,ata slowerspeedthe camera
shutterwill have more exposure tolightandwouldmake the image beingtakenhave anaffect
calledmotionblur.Whenthe camerahas fastershutterspeed,ithaslessexposure tolightand
wouldfreeze the exactaction. In the first image, the shutter speed has no affect because, the
person within the image is not moving, so this does not change the outcome of the image.
Whereas, with the second image the shutter speed has a big effect on how the image has
turned out. The reason for this would be that that shutter had slowerspeedandthe camera
shutterhas beenmore exposedtolight. Thisishadcreatedan effectonthe image calledmotion
blur.Thisis where the motionthatisbeingtakenplace,hasbecome blurredbecause the speedof
the shutterhas beensloweddown.The reasonforthe image beinglike thisisbecause,Ihaduseda
differentcamerasettingonmymobile devicetocapture a numberof imagesinone and thisimage
stoodout to me because,itonlymade the individual andnotanyone else thatwasinthe image.
Aperture inphotography,isthe hole onacamera that determineshow muchlightwill come through
the lenswhena picture istakenona camera.The aperture ismeasured incalibratedf/stops.Inthe
imagesabove there ismore aperture usedinimage onthe left.Thisisbecause,more lightisstriking
the mainobjectinthe image andalsothere isa shallow depthof field,becausethe backgroundin
the image isblurredout and make you focuson the objectwiththe mostlighthoveringoverit.The

2. reasonwhythisimage had thiseffectonit,wasbecause we hadpurposelyallocatedourselvestoa
sectioninthe car parkthat had the most light.Whereas,the secondimage hassmall aperture
because lesslightisstrikingthe image andhasa deepdepthof field.
Exposure isthe amountof lightthat the image isexposedto. Anunderexposedimage isthe sortof
photographthatone mightconsidertobe too dark andan overexposedimage wouldbe animage
that istoo brightand has beenexposedtotoomuchlight. Betweenthe twoimages,the image on
the lefthasmore exposure thanimage onthe right.Thisisbecause,the image onthe lefthasmore
lightandis more easilyvisible tothe nakedeye.However,the image onthe leftseemslike itcould
be underexposedbecause,itisharderto see andthere islesslight.The reasonforbothimages
turningoutlike isbecause,bothlocationshaddifferentamountsof lightindifferentareas of the
location.Forexample,the carpark hadmore lightbecause,if there wasn’tanylightinthe car park it
wouldveryhardfor people todrive inthem.The file size thatthese imageswouldneedtobe if they
were goingtobe postedona website,such asWordPresswouldbe 2 to 3mb withmostimagesthat
wouldbe placedonwebsites,theywouldneedtobe 80Kb – 100Kb at most.
The imagesusedforto fulfil the brief are bothappropriate becausetheybothhave elementsof the
subjectthatI had chosento speakabout.For example the picture onthe leftshowsanindividual
skatingina place that is typicallyknown forskating.Andthe image onthe leftalsoshowsalocation
that isknownfor people toskate in.These are bothlinkedtomymediaproductbecause,theyboth
involve locationsorobjectsthatI hadchosento photograph,whichisskating.Also,inthe second
image,there anumberof skate boards placedaroundthe image,tosignifythe purpose andmeaning
of mediaproduct.
