1. Expert in polymer compounding and formulation composites of resins, additives and
compatibilizer in order to targeting highly engineered products.
2. Results-driven professional with research and industrial experience in innovation, scale-up
and commercialization.
3. Research results were published as 4 patents and 18 peer reviewed journal papers including
top ranked and presented more than 30 times in professional conferences.
4. Worked as a polymer materials specialist in Eaton Co, significantly improved electric
properties as well as improved mechanical properties, and investigated new polymer material
and technologies.
5. Expert in developing research roadmap, writing papers, patents and proposals to seek internal
and external project funding by responding to NSF and USDA in Michigan State University.
6. Contributed in spin off and found XS Science company from MSU results, which was
commercialized with extensive know-how of graphene nanomaterials processing, size
deduction, modify and functional group in graphene.

1. 2 times Best Poster Award: 2004 NSTI Nanotechnology Conference and Trade Show and
Kyushu-Seibu/Pusan-Kyeongnam Joint Symposium on High Polymers (10th) and Textiles
(8th).
2. MSU Nanotechnology Research Nets Nano 50 Award (2007, Dec 18, 2007): an award was
given to Lawrence T. Drzal, director of Composite Materials and Structures Center (CMSC)
at MSU. Hwanman was one of core researcher in Dr. Drzal’s group in CMSC.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE AND ACIVEMENTS
Material Scientist and Contract engineer: Eaton Co., Southfield, MI (Aug 2013-April 2016)
• Developed improving epoxy encapsulates for higher electric propertied as well as improved
mechanical properties.
• Experienced in the determination of optimal materials for various applications – PP,PBT,
PA(Nylon).
• Developed thermoplastic compounding for outdoor encapsulation.
• Developed various techniques to improve functionalization and interface boundary .
• Investigated micro voids analysis in failed next generation hose –determining a failed cause
i.e., due to mechanical abrasion, sintering process, cyclic thermal shock.
• Performed dynamic mechanical analysis for creep and cyclic fatigue testing for expecting life
time of the selected materials.

• Developed a new compatibilizer in new biodegradable cellulose acetate / organic clay
composites compounding and published USA patent.
• Developed electro-conductive GnP/PET films and successfully scaled up GnP paper in 14x
14 inches with variable thickness.
• Expert in relationship between nanostructure and properties by advanced nano-scale
morphological analysis using SEM, TEM, AFM as well as, XRD, Raman.
• Designed experiments for optimizing fiber, nanofiller, additive, and polymer in order to get
target properties such as improving impact strength or toughening etc.
• Developed innovate vinyl ester composite materials for toughening using compatible
compatibilizer and modified graphene , Carboxyl-terminated butadiene-acrylonitrile(
CTBN) blended or grafted exfoliated graphite nanoplatelet (GnP).

• Developed new biodegradable starch-based blends and nanocomposites, first reported papers for
fabrication of the thermoplastic starch/organic clay nanocomposites compounding.
• Developed novel biodegradable compounding (aliphatic polyester/organoclay) for commodity
packaging and developed rubber compounding for Timing belt application.

• Developed new functional acrylic synthetic fibers (flame retardant acrylic fiber, carbon fiber
precursor, and higher strength fiber, color changing fiber with temperature using high tech
spinning methods and published 3 Korean patents related acrylic fibers.

Fiber from research results, set up bench scale and pilot scale experiments
