I recently completed the Lynda Certification for Writing a Résumé. Here is a brief slideshow highlighting the key points of constructing an effective and unique résumé. Any feedback you may have for me would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
2. BASIC COMPONENTS
• An objective
• Education
• Prior work experience
• Summary of skills
• Volunteer work and other prevalent information
3. REMINDERS
• A résumé will get you an interview, not a job.
• Rehearse and know what is on your résumé in case you are asked about
it during the interview process.
• Always review your résumé and have someone else review it as well.
• Make your résumé clear, concise, and to the point.
4. REFERENCES
• Make sure you contact potential references and ask for their permission
• Keep them updated during the interview process so they can prepare
• Send a thank you note whether you receive the job or not for their
valuable feedback
5. THINGS TO AVOID
• Lying about any education, or work experience
• Listing references without their permission
• Never trust spell check.
• Do not add fluff or list excess information that is not relevant to the job
you are applying for.
• Do not use generic, premade templates
6. CONCLUSION
• In conclusion, writing a résumé is not easy but if done properly, can set
you apart from the rest of the competition and potentially land you a
job in your desired field.
