The pressure to operate safely in risk-sensitive industries such as oil and gas is always present, with many offshore drillers struggling to define and practice effective safety-driven maintenance principles on a routine basis, given the dynamic and inherently dangerous nature of drilling hazards. This has given rise to the concept of establishing a performance-based approach to safety by directly tying regulatory standards to preventive maintenance tasks in the form of performance standards.
This presentation was presented at the 2015 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas.

Conclusion
• At the end of the Performance Standard development
process, the gap between Safety Cases and Safety
Critical Equipment will be effectively bridged:
– Comprehensive list of the critical assets and an
understanding of their relationship to MAEs
– Metrics for trending and continuous improvement
– Documented maintenance tasks for critical assets
Leveraging CAPS within a Risk-Based Asset
Management strategy provides the framework for
effectively managing critical asset reliability.
