Season Update
Greetings from the Oak Hill Collaborative and the Oak Hill Makerspace! Now
that we are into the Fall season, things here are picking up. Our Makerspace
Wednesdays have been well-attended - please join the community of makers,
artists, students and tinkerers this week!!
We have two major educational projects going on now, or in the immediate
future. One is another raspberry pi class we are holding at the Collaborative on
Saturdays. Ten young kids are assembling a computer from scratch,
programming the raspberry pi, and, when they are done, taking the finished
computer home with them (made possible by the generosity of the Youngstown
Foundation and Home Savings & Loan).
The other major project is our High School Video Game Jam, where we teach
high school juniors and seniors how to create their own video games (thanks to

2. AT&T). Our own Kendra Corpier is starting a video game development program
at YSU and is directing and teaching this 3 day workshop, which among other
things, provides scholarship awards to YSU. This workshop starts November 3
– we definitely are looking for more students so please spread the word!
We also have several other raspberry pi programs scheduled at various sites
and are planning a wide variety of other short courses, workshops and events,
all “technical” and part of our Digital Advantage Initiative. This Thursday (10-18)
our old friend Joe Duncko will be here at 6-7:30 pm, giving a free presentation
on Search Engine Optimization, part of a 3 part series he will be doing here.
Next Thursday (10-25), our new friend Rayshone Oliver conducts a YouTube
interview with Eartha Terrill of M.E. Creative, a multi-disciplinary social media
(and much more) enterprise, which will be broadcast on Rayshone’s own
YouTube channel (also a multi-part series). Joe and Rayshone are sponsored
by our partner SCORE, which continues to help small businesses in innovative
and valuable ways.
There is a lot going on here, and we hope you will join us. We are all Makers!
