1. 1. Fully Narrated - use off-screen voice over. Often used in nature documentaries e.g. David
Attenborough. Known as the "Voice of God" documentary
2. Fly on the Wall - rely almost totally on observation. There is little to no commentary and
editing is a really important feature and the documentary is heavily reliant on the editing
used.
3. Mixed Documentary - most common type of documentary. It uses a combination of
interviews, observation and narration.
4. Self-reflexive - subjects of the documentary speak directly to the audience e.g Ross Kemp
5. Docudrama – re-enactment of events (reconstruction of reality) e.g. Hillsborough
6. Docusoap - Investing in different characters ion the soap and following them individually
e.g. Storage Wars, Benefit Street etc.
